From this month's GQ article on Merriman:
QUOTE
"People in the NFL don't understand what's going on in that man's head," says Merriman's high school coach J.C. Pinkney. "If they did, the wouldn't play with him. He's looking to put people out for real. It's not a joke."
QUOTE
"You never want to end another player's career," Merriman says of his hit on Priest Holmes. "But it's a violent game." And then he smiles wickedly: "What can I say? Lights out."
This make you feel any different about the Patriots "disrespecting" Merriman with the dance at midfield charger fans?

I have always thought he came across like an arrogant self-centered jerk.

I have that GQ, he's a punk bitch. I don't like him and I hope more and more players mock his ass.

He's not all that great. He is a good blitzer and makes those sexy plays, but beyond that his game needs alot of work.

Perhaps, but he's only 22 so he's got plenty of time to learn. In the meantime, he makes plenty of sexy plays and is a good blitzer.

The Broncos have had to deal with alot of great defensive players in this division over the years. Names like Junior Seau, Rodney Harrison, Lestor Hayes, Derrick Thomas, etc. have all come and gone. Merriman is young and has lots of upside, but his own stupid ego may collapse everything before it really gets started.

Are you kidding me? Either one of two things is possible with your statement above.
1-You are using a defense mechanism and tear him down because he plays for a rival and are using reverse Psycology.
2-You have never seen him play.
He is a great player, maybe a headcase, a known cheater but he is still a GREAT player. When has a rookie dominated like he did or a second year player been unblockable? How many sacks has he had in his short two year career for a 22 year old?

As long as it's within the rules, guys on defense should hit guys as hard as they possibly can.
John Lynch may not say it in so many words, but he's looking for a "lights out" hit every defensive play.

No doubt. Jamal Williams is the real stud on that line.

I didn't want to bring that up ...but he's Maryland trash too. I tolerate it because he's on the team...but the day he leaves...

Come on. The season is over and the Chargers lost. What makes you think Chargers fans even know that there is a game this weekend.

Yep, I hate him, but I would change my tune if he ever ended up a Bronco.

I have no problems with what he said.
DL were long making statements about hurting QBs openly before the NFL put the PC muzzle on them.

Did you read my post at all? I did say he is a very talented blitzer, but other than that his game needs alot of work. I know it's easy to buy into the mindless hype over some of these players, but if you watch Merriman play you will see him make poor plays in run and pass defense.

He wouldn't take responsibilty for cheating. Instead he says it wasn't his fault. Hes a typical Piece of crap that won't own up to his mistakes. Instead he lies to the fans faces by saying it was in a supplement? Yeah they always stick nandronstine or whatever he took in regular supplements. He's a cheater that would be nothing without steriods. Now that he can't cheat it's only a matter of time before he loses some of his edge.

Deacon Jones and Dick Butkus used to make statements like this all the time. It just showed their passion for the game, plus they had already put fear in the hearts of some QB's. Unfortunately for Merriman, steroids put an asterik next to his talent and he's attempting to use words to put that fear in there. He needs to prove it on the field next year without the steroids.

Thank you for that. It was Deacon Jones I was thinking of.
Wasn't he the guy that said that he hated all QBs and wanted to pretty much hurt them on the field and that was his job?

ALOT of players, in addition to Merriman, have the same sort of mentality I'm sure. HOWEVER, they aren't stupid enough to let GQ quote them for posterity. On that note, don't think the leauge offenses aren't going to take a shot at this guy during next seasons games, they will, based on his stupidity and arrogance. There is lies the difference between him and some of the other players. Somebody said it here, what goes around , comes around, he will get his, and I'll be laughing at him...dman

What's worse is that he's a cheater and has basically been given a free pass by literally everyone covering the NFL.
