Could an American political cartoonist get away with something like this in the U.S. without creating a firestorm? This one's by an internationally known cartoonist from Austrailia by the name of Paul Zanetti.

Please provide your comments.

I'm don't think racism/ sexism wasn't intended... at least I hope not... I think it was meant to imply that in Bush's (or the right's) point of view that the Presidency should be held only by white males

i have no problem with the cartoon regardless if it was made here or australia. I think he assumes we vote for a president based on if he is a whitey. We have had very few minority candidates and personally to me, they havent been very good to get the parties vote. The cartoon isnt a slam at right wing because minority candidates have come on both sides of congress. Did any of you vote for Jesse Jackon, Alan Keyes or Elizabeth Dole in the primaries? I doubt it and not based on color or sex.

I don't think he would say that, it would be political suicide. The bad news about this thread is that there are some that think all republicans think that we have to have a white man as president.

They are so far from the truth it is almost funny. I personally think Powell would be a great president and I also think that C. Rice is better qualified to be president than Hillary. My opinion of Hillary is that she is very crooked and I base that on the circumstances from the White Water fallout.

Sure, he said it. It was a joke. Rangel has a very good sense of humor. It doesn't translate well across the aisle, but then, the Republicans have never been known as people with a sense of humor. BTW, Condoleeza Rice could not be elected president. She's a robot. White Water? Isn't that the one where the Republicans blew $40 million on a 7 year investigation that came up with.... zilch? That was money well spent.

White Water was the situation that had an inordinate number of people involved die of non-natural causes over a short period of time. It's just my opinoin, but I'd bet the Clintons had a whole staff of people working on the files around the clock. It might be circumstantial, but there are plenty of darts thrown at GWB that are just as circumstantial.

So it's OK for a black man to make a racial joke, but not OK for a white man to do the same? Racial comments are not humorous, nor are they called for from any man, woman or child in any circumstance.

Have you ever met Condoleeza Rice? I have. I heard her speak and answer questions from the press. She is a very intelligent person and better qualified to be president than Hillary.

If there had been any evidence of wrongdoing re: Whitewater, Ken Starr with his virtually unlimited budget would have found it. Unless your contention is that Starr was inept? ???

I don't know Ken Starr other than what is written.

How many months and what resourses would it take to manipulate files to remove any incriminating evidence from the files? Is my contention that circumstantial evidence points out that the time the files were missing and not available for the committee to examine gave the Clintons and their staff that time to doctor them.

I'm sure that you might feel a little uncomfortable if you were investigating a case and evidence that is known to exist cannot be found for months and then when it is found it is in the hands of the people being investigated.

Now, would Ken Starr be inept if he had a set of documents that had been professionally altered to change what they depicted? There are too many questionable circumstances regarding that investigation to let it go with Hillary being innocent.

And, while I'm at it, I think that Bill was probably less involed with the wrongdoing than Hillary was. I feel that she was the mastermind behind the whole situation. I also see that Hillary is not being straight with the voters regarding the things she said one, two, three or more years ago and now denying that they were said. Her biggest problem is that there are tapes of her comments, both then and now.

What makes that speculaion any different than the speculation that the adminsitration does not have an exit strategy in Iraq? The press and the democrats do not know of it so of course it never existed.

History will eventually unveil what happened with White Water and what part the Clintons played in it, or should I say Hillary.

Wouldn't it already be a part of history (aka the Starr Report) if there was anything for history to "eventually unveil"? Your farfetched speculation is that an outlandishly expensive investigation was unable to produce any evidence, despite Ken Starr's best efforts, but that evidence still does exist somewhere just waiting to be found. Either evidence exists that the investigation failed to find (ie: Starr was inept but history will ultimately find proof that Starr with virtually unlimited taxpayer $$ couldn't) or the evidence is permanently unavailable ...possibly completely eliminated, meaning the Clintons were unbelievably thorough in covering their tracks (not at all likely, imo), or maybe no evidence ever existed at all.

As to the difference between speculation over Whitewater and the totally-unrelated notion of speculation over Bush's lack of an exit strategy in Iraq, I guess if we spent $50+ million for a special prosecutor who devoted literally years investigating whether or not Bush has an exit strategy... and ultimately reaching a conclusion with notes and evidence available in a public report, then the two situations might be remotely similar. On the one hand, one can reasonably speculate on an issue that has not been investigated at all... but it's ludicrous to speculate on allegations that have been thoroughly investigated, yet cannot be proven.

Which part of the files being in the Clintons control while Starr was investigating? They did not turn them over for many months, not a few days. They had time to wipe out all involvement with wrong doing. Lies find you wherever you go and their lies and crimes will eventually be found.

Your refusal to understand that they had opportuntiy rewrite each and every page of the files they had in their posession.

Again, speculation. It doesn't change the fact that no evidence was found after an intense investigation by a highly-motivated special prosecutor with vast amounts of taxpayer money. No proof was found then and none will be found in the future either. How can one be so adamantly certain of the Clintons' guilt, given the total lack of the slightest shred of proof? Logic would suggest that if evidence existed, it would already have been found by Starr.... and since it wasn't found (if it ever existed at all) it's irretrievably buried. No one's gonna invest that kind of resources in re-investigating allegations that haven't been remotely relevant for more than a decade. To say otherwise merely demonstrates an engraved-in-granite preconceived opinion that does not rely on facts as a basis.

And they say that Pinocchio is a fairy tale. Look! Here's a puppet that turned into a real boy, right here! If a tax payer funded $40 million dollar investigation with the assistance of all the forces (including the FBI) that Tom DeLay, Newt Gingrich and Trent Lott could muster came up with nothing, history will have even less luck. There was nothing there to find. And the purpose of the investigation was not to find anything.

Here's what White Water was: It was one billionaire, Richard Mellon Scaife, using his money to buy politicians (DeLay, Gingrich, Lott) who would then do whatever he wanted them to do as long as the money kept filling their pockets. That is why prosecutorial discretion was never applied to the case. Any prosecutor fresh out of law school could have scanned that case and seen, at the beginning, that it wasn't worth prosecuting. But Scaife didn't care about the truth. He only cared that the Clintons come under constant attack and harassment, just or unjust. That is what history will write. When Hillary said it was a coordinated attack by the Right Wing, she was speaking the truth. Like that scene where the Godfather says, "I never knew until today, but it was Barzini all along." Well, it was Scaife all along.

As the Clinton campaign progresses, Scaife will fund new attacks (in all likelihood, he was behind the Swift Boat attacks on Kerry). He will smear any candidate the Dems come up with, but especially the Clintons, who he seems to have a personal obsession with.

Do you know where Ken Starr went to work after he finally wrung the last drops of blood out of the White Water investigation? He became the dean of Pepperdine law school. Guess who is one of the largest funders of Pepperdine? That’s right. Scaife.

As far as Bush's exit strategy goes, read "Fiasco" by Tom Ricks. Read the opinions of generals who were actually there, and the officers who have been involved since the beginning. There was never a Phase IV. Why? Because Cheney and Rumsfeld told them they wouldn't need one. The Iraqis would throw flowers at our tanks. Everyone would join together and sing kumbaya. The mission was accomplished.

Of course, I know you won't read that book. Puppets don't need truth. Puppets just need someone to pull their strings. They don’t need to actually think. Puppets can't handle the truth! That’s why they flock to the feet of their heroes O’Liely and Faux News, so they can continue to be pumped full of the delusions they are addicted to.

Now I guess you can neg rep me some more, little Pinocchio. ;D
