Monday Morning Buzz at the Senior Bowl

Troy Smith By Scout.com

Posted Jan 22, 2007

News from around the league is buzzing in Mobile, Ala., site of the Senior Bowl. Find out what news and notes have league personnel talking, and see which teams are showing interest in which draft prospect in the Monday Morning Buzz.

Things got off to a swift start in Mobile this morning as 100 senior prospects were weighed and measured for NFL scouts and coaches. Besides the scheduled activity, there is plenty of news swirling at the convention center with teams interviewing specific players.

After Ohio St. QB Troy Smith measured in at 6 feet even in Mobile Monday morning, there was a collective chatter in the room. Many scouts were wondering if he would measure in shorter than that, which was the early speculation. Smith will have to have a solid week of practices to solidify a selection on the first day of this year’s NFL draft.

All the scouts on hand agreed that Nebraska has one of the best weight training programs in the nation. The NU players on hand (Jay Moore, Adam Carriker and Stewart Bradley) were hands down the most physically impressive group from any single team.

One of the interesting developments of the morning was the sudden retirement of Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells. Many around the league predicted that Parcells would be coming back for another season after working in his office at team headquarters last week. The news came out almost simultaneously after the morning weigh-ins and there was a huge buzz amongst the NFL personnel here in Mobile.

As is the case every year here, there are a lot of unemployed NFL coaches looking for work. It’s easy to tell because they aren’t wearing any team clothing. There are also a lot of CFL coaches here scouting talent.

The Tampa Bay Bucs have stated one of their top priorities in the draft this April will be a big cover corner.

The New York Giants were incredibly impressed with two defensive players from this morning’s workout – Amobi Okoye of Louisville and Nebraska linebacker Stewart Bradley.

Brady Quinn was on hand this morning and spent an extensive amount of time interviewing with the Carolina Panthers.

Who were teams looking at this morning?

Miami Dolphins – Kenny Irons, David Irons, Aaron Ross, Josh Gattis, Drew Stanton

New York Jets – Kenny Irons, David Irons, Kareem Brown, Ryan Harris, Josh Gattis

Pittsburgh Steelers – Rhema McKnight, Ryan Harris

San Diego Chargers – H.B. Blades, Kenny Irons, Kareem Brown, A.J. Davis, Tony Ugoh, Josh Gattis

Minnesota Vikings – Ryan Harris

Chicago Bears – Aaron Ross

Green Bay Packers – David Irons, Kareem Brown, Tony Ugoh, Ryan Harris, Tony Hunt

Yeah, I like how she put in lighting and wallpaper and even some furniture for him.....I'm no expert in psychology or anything, but I think it would prolly have an adverse effect on him if he had to stay down there in the damp and dark environment all day. At least now he can't complain about it being inhumane to lock him in down there by himself for hours at a time when company is over.

You will notice that Bob stood up for the Darth Vader picture and you can see his assprints on the seat. I'm impressed that he cleaned up all the Ho-Ho and Twinkies wrappers that inevitably collected around his chair.

Bob, what were you thinking in posting those pictures? Did you really expect someone to declare "Holy ****, you're a grown man dressed up as Star Wars characters, let's hang out some time!"?

Why do they even bother to put Mason Crosby in there? Who cares? Like Shanahan said, "If there's one guy on the team who I don't care if he shows up out of shape."

Ill bet he rises tho this week and at the combine unfortunately.
