Nice list. People from Colorado should be ashamed. :)

What you can gather from that list is that the more open space you have to roam, the more you drink.

If I lived in Montana or North Dakota, I would drink myself to oblivion as well. What in the hell are you suppose to do up there anyway?

With the exception of Nevada, I guess. Nevada´s numbers are probably slightly influenced by Las Vegas and the tourists who drink themselves to oblivion there.

How do they measure this is what I want to know. Also, surprised Alaska isn't up there more along with Texas.

There are at least two ways. I noticed that the spreadsheet didn't have a source. One, bars and anywhere the has a liquor license is supposed to keep accurate records of alcohol sold. Using that with store purchases would give an fairly accurate estimate.

Also, there's a survey called the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC). This survey asks about a person's alcohol consumption. Whatever the respondent answers could be converted into gallons per year. This spreadsheet could come from here also.

I see a couple of states in the bottom ten that are only there because of alternative choices. Kentucky probably leads in bourbon comsumption. I bet Arkansas leads in moonshine per capita. :~ohyah!:

I can't believe Utah wasn't in the top five. This place has become Partyville USA.

I am glad getting drunk in California is near the bottom. Nothing wrong with drinking but mixing with too much and possibly driving is not something to celebrate. I see many states near the cold canadian border gets high marks for downing the can. If they drive and are drunk, what are they going to hit? A cow?

I was surprised by Alaska too.

That 12% in Utah must be me and my friends during Sunday games! :alky:

I'm from Montana and there's plenty of stuff to do there. It just so happens that much of it can be done while drinking so most people go "why not?!".

Those figures are not credible ... 30 gallons of beer per person - "total population" - per year?!

Sorry, not buying it. Not in a million years. Even if you factor out minors (which the chart expressly did not) it's still WAY too high.

Remember, a 6-pack = just under a half-gallon.

So, that means every man, woman and child in Colorado drinks FORTY-TWO 6-packs a year?! (23 gallons)

Bogus chart.

my state is # 1 not suprising since a while back the concord monitor did a story on how franklin NH has the highest per capita sales of budweiser in the country.

I'm not surprised by New York's showing on this chart....you should see what we have to go through here just to get a keg anymore.

It doesn't surprise me that Alaska isn't higher. I had friends that did contract work up there and according to them, a lot of the rural areas have dry laws. Kind of sucks for them.

I can see why PA is about in the middle. Those who drink, drink enough for the rest. This state is a little weird.

I think NH is highest because a ton of people from mass and other surounding states buy their alcohol in NH because its cheaper.

42 six packs is not a lot in 365 days.

I know people that put down cases in a single night by themselves, regularly. This counters the people that do not drink at all.

42 six packs a year is less than a six pack a week. Its not that much.

South Dakota and North Dakota seem right. All kids do is get ****ed up!
