I have long been of the opinion that Denver needs another dominate force in the middle next to Warren. Check this guy out! He is only 19 years old.
Amobi Okoye DT 6'1 317 Louisville
By: Robert Davis
There aren’t too many 16 year olds that can play college football, but Okoye did. Not only did he play, but he proved he could hold his own against players four years older. As a freshman reserve, he had 17 tackles, two for loss, and one sack. As a sophomore, Okoye had 26 tackles, two for loss, and a sack. Okoye was again a factor up the middle, finishing with 23 tackles, four for loss, and half a sack. He really came through as a senior, earning All Big East 1st team honors with a career high 49 tackles, 12 for loss, and six sacks.
Okoye may be the ideal nose tackle. He is built low to the ground, and stays low, making it hard for defenders to get under his pads. Combined with his bulk and his strength, and he is immovable on the interior. He is powerful at the point of attack and can push lineman around and clog running lanes on the inside. Okoye’s ability to succeed despite his age is a testament to his intensity. He will not be outworked on the field.
He is an excellent run stopper, but Okoye does not project as much of a playmaker at the next level. He can get penetration but lacks the ability to finish plays off. He has had a lot of success at a young age, but he may need more time to mature before he becomes a factor in the NFL.
Amobi Okoye is a special player. He has had a lot of success in college, and his entire career will be played as a teenager. His upside at the next level is tremendous. He could be an excellent nose tackle in a few years. If he can test out well athletically after the season, the sky is the limit and Okoye could end up cracking the 1st round.

Bates likes a pair of mountain DTs to occupy blocks with smaller rush ends, so he would probably be a good a fit based on the description...he must be pretty intelligent if he started school at 16

I'd have no problem with Okoye in the 1st

In all honesty, I don't think excess intelligence is a particularly desirable trait in a defensive lineman.

Great minds think alike.
I guess this kid is Christian Okoya's son.

It just doesn't seem like Okoye will be an impact right away and it might take him a couple years before he developes into a full time starter.
In 2 years, it sounds like he'll be a pretty good player though.

Well then, we definitely don't want to take him or we'll get a bad draft grade by Gosselin next January. :wiggle:

The two year thing is what has me a bit concerned. I would hope that that Broncos would get a DT who would fit into the rotation now, and be something more than a door stop. Big enough, but he is going up against some very unseeming characters, and there would be a maturity factor to deal with.....
Maybe if the Broncos got a FA DT or such, then it would be less of a problem to wait for him to mature. But, frankly, I think they go RB in the first.

The Kid is 19 years old and was playing Division I NCAA football at the age of 16. Whose to say he can't compete and contribute now? He is 6' 1" 317lbs. He could develop into an all-time great.

He's the guy I want. From what I've read we could trade our two thirds and our first to Buffalo for the 12th pick overall and take him.

I'd be very surprised if the Broncos traded all that to move up to 12 just to get this guy.

I would be alright with Okoye @ 21 or lower, but I wouldn't trade up for him.

He also happens to be a huge inside presence, which is exactly what i think this teams needs.
He's only a teenager because he's a ****ing genius. I doubt it'll happen, but a man can dream, can't he?

Well, only because you're a former defensive lineman.......:)
Defensive linemen, especially interior linemen really don't have to learn that much. If you're smart enough or (preferably) instinctive enough to read the guards, you can find the football. That's pretty much the job. These guys get the crap knocked out of them all game long and I just don't think an introspective nature is really beneficial for that line of work.
Think of some of the "smart" defensive linemen we've seen. Tim Green, first round bust who wouldn't play through pain, yet writes painfully trite novels. Ted Gregory, stockbroker in training, who liked to contradict his coaches. Touchy-feely Paul Toviessi who blew his knee and then wondered if rehabbing was really worth it. I still can't believe we drafted that guy.
Give me some profane grunting animal like Warren Sapp any day of the week.

I don't like of the idea of trading up to get him. And I don't think he will go that high. I could be wrong though.
