He makes sure the Rams have a good defense. ROFL!

That's what Kyle Shanahan was for Gruden in the beginning. Kinda sounds like a paid intern who is there to learn a bit about every unit on that side of the ball.

If I was Bowlen, I would put my foot down on this ****. We don't need one supervisor for every two employees like the frigging Post Office.

Bowlen could give himself the title of "Owner in charge of running the team with a slight focus on squashing all the made up titles BS"

No we don't but we do need good coaches and the DC should be able to bring some of his own guys in. Who cares how many coaches we have as long as we improve this defense and get to the Superbowl. It's Bowlen's money.

They want a new LB coach...what's the big deal?

By the way, don't we still HAVE a LB coach? Or was Coyer LB coach and DC?

Because we need some quality control over what kind of coaches are hired. This will help us know how to react when Keith Millard accidentally wanders into the team facility looking for the bowling alley.

Get me some linebackers that can walk tall Joe Baker.

They are pretty crafty at inventing titles in the NFL. I'm not really sure there is a limit on coaches or assistant head coaches. We have assistants to assistants which is fine with me, but at some point you have too many cooks in the kitchen.

I think Humdinger might be on a short leash next year as well.

Bowlen is researching bringing in assistant co-owners to help him make that decision but he is waiting until after the assistant head coaches meeting to see what that committee discovered.

I wish I was related to somebody in the Broncos organization so that I could get a job screwing up the team.

I think you are all overreacting. On the surface it can seem like we're overloading, but when you look at where we're at, this is a good move. Larry Coyer was the linebackers coach and while he relinquished some of the direct oversight on those things, he essentially was in charge of that unit. Now that he's gone, we have a talent void there.

Also consider that this is one of Bates' moves. He's been officially hired for a few days and now you are starting to see changes at the lower positions. We can probably expect to hear about some more firings and hirings in the future.

As for the other titles, they really don't mean anything. It's just an excuse to attract the best coaches with higher pay and loftier position titles. The functional day-to-day responsibilities are going to be the same as any other coaching staff.

What exactly does a defensive quality control coach do?

He randomly samples tackles and verifies they are within tolerance limits.

I thought he checked each player to make sure they didn't poke a child's eye out.

Ahh, that clarifies things... Sounds like they're trying to remove what remnants of Coyer Inc they can

Well Doll hasn't been fired. Coyer really ran that unit and now he's gone. As I said earlier, I suspect this is just a way to replace the hole that his removal created.

If Bowlen did that Shanny would start planning his move out of town. Bowlen will never tell Shannahan how to make his staff up, how many asst he needs or anything pertaining to such matters. Besides with how fast coaches leave you need a big staff to make sure you never have too many new faces in one year. If you only had 10 asst coaches and 5 leave you just lose half your staff. If you have 22 asst and 5 leave it's not as big of a deal. I'm sure all the people on the Broncos work alot of hours and contribute to the organization.

I love the new hires but would like to see more players in the pro bowl. Around here the only titles anyone cares about is Superbowl champion.

I love the fact that Shanahan is getting after it and making some needed changes but what ground work are they building? Are we going back to drafting crippled lineman, picking guys way too high and overlooking major talent that lands right in our hands?

Let's be clear. No coach in the NFL got there by being lazy. Nepotism aside all NFL coaches tend to work long hours and pay a pretty high price for what they do but that all said I don't want to bring in highly regarded coaches with any expectation of wonderment. I want to see press conferences and some of the expectations they bring.

I don't think anybody sees this but the Broncos are not two players away from being a Superbowl contender. The Broncos need at least five starters to make a serious run at things. I am expecting quite a lot of change and the guys that are being named are the kinds of guys I would like to see make it happen for the Broncos.

Well now that we've cornered the market on new coaching positions, maybe we can spend a few bucks on some scouts that find talent instead of fat lazy and injured 1st round OT's that bust and 2nd round WR's with withered hands.

I would say that our talent evaluation and drafting ability the last two years have really improved. I hope the trend continues.
