He's a free agent and played for Bates in Miami...6'5", 290...66 tackles and 7 sacks from the DT position. Any chance we go after him, and might he wish to follow Bates here? He's still only 31 year old...good enough to patch a hole for a couple years while we look for an answer in the draft. I think he'd be an upgrade over what we have right now at least.

Discuss.

Why because he played DE in KC instead of DT? You probably didn't notice. Also he won't get a big contract like KC gave him. I do agree at least at DE he would have 2 big games a year to boost stats and I haven't seen him play DT.

He's a pretty decent interior pass rusher...and might take the pressure off Warren. Unless we draft a DT in round 1 is there a better option out there? I'd like an OT in round 1 to replace Georgina.

Why was I thinking he played in GB?
Looks like he actually played for Bates in GB rather than Miami...

*edit*- well now I see he missed playing for Bates alltogether. He was in GB when Bates was in Miami and he was in Miami when Bates went to GB...crazy.

I'm too lazy to figure it out...what about Javon and Bates? Were they together in GB?
Obviously...offense/defense...but just curious?

I think he'd be a solid addition on the interior. Good vet to have...

Chiefs fans barely knew he played in KC...Ha!

I guess he's doing well in Miami, but I don't see him as a huge upgrade from Myers or Ekuban...

vets are always good to have, especially when we prolly will draft a linemen early in april....you cant overestimate a vet to learn from.

Please no.

We don't have the monopoly on signing over the hill, garbage DL.

I'd much rather pay someone young like Cory Redding who's only 26, coming into his prime and plays both DT/DE and notched 8 sacks with 47 tackles without any help in a crappy Lions DL missing their probowl DT Shaun Rogers and other players like Shaun Cody.

His versatility would allow Bates to use him inside, on stunts and shifts etc.

66 tackles and 7 sacks from the DT position is crap? We could have used some of that crap last year. His sack totals beat Warren and Myers combined. Holliday probably still has a couple good years left so I wouldn't call him over the hill. Redding would be nice too, but probably cost more.

Holliday was an overpaid sack of crap in KC.

But all of a sudden he racks up stats with Jason Taylor having a tremendous season right beside him.

You do the math. Which player are we likely to get if we sign him?

Redding at 290 has played DE and notched up 8 sacks and 47 tackles from the under tackle position with Detroit missing it's best DL in James Hall and Shaun Rogers for most of the year. And he's what only 26? He would be perfect to line up inside at DT on nickel packages and outside on early downs to stop the run.

Redding probably won't make it out of Detroit since Marinelli who has a good eye for talent already mentioned he would be franchised but with so many FAs this year the Lions can't afford to franchise a DE. Also with Matt Millen the unthinkable is very much possible and he might let him walk.

But if he is franchised that doesn't mean we get desperate and go after some washed up DT who's living off the fumes of a mediocre career.

Um, Lepsis, Hamilton, and Nails (unless he retires) are all on nice contracts, Pears did real good filling in for Lepsis, we still have Myers, and the staff was real impressed with Kuper last season. Rookies never start on our line, why would we, with all those guys plus Foster and potentially Meadows still on the team and Eslinger on the PS would we look to draft a OL in the first round? Not to mention that outside of Joe Thomas, who we have no shot at, there isn't a standout OL in this draft worthy of a first rounder, unless you want Levi "I'm Foster Part Deux" Brown out of PSU.

I'm not huge on Holliday, playing next to Taylor in a front four rush heavy D makes getting sacks a whole lot easier. If he'd sign for reasonable money then sure, but I don't think he'll do that unless he's staying in Miami. Also, Bates was out of the league in '06, coached Green Bay in '05, so when did Bates and Holliday ever meet up?

Redding would be great if you ask me. He's young, flying under the radar, and is a UFA. I'd be all for signing him, letting Meyers walk, and drafting a first day DT who will allow us to release Warren in a year or two if he doesn't turn it around.
