DENVER - The man police questioned in the Darrent Williams shooting is now believed to be a suspect connected to the shooting, according to sources close to the investigation.
The same sources tell 9NEWS, not only is 23-year-old Willie Clark believed to be a suspect in the case, he’s also believed to have been inside the vehicle from which shots were fired on the Hummer limousine. Police do not think that Clark was the gunman.
Clark was initially arrested for a parole violation.
Williams, a cornerback for the Denver Broncos, was shot and killed in the early hours of New Year’s Day near 11th and Speer Boulevard after leaving a New Year’s Eve celebration at the Shelter nightclub. He was riding in the Hummer limousine with 15 other passengers when someone opened fire, hitting three of them. The two other passengers were both treated and released from the hospital.
Javon Walker, Broncos wide receiver, was also in the limo but was uninjured.
Denver Police Chief Gerry Whitman tells 9NEWS police are making, "good progress with the investigation."
On Wednesday, Clark was transferred to county jail. Authorities say he was transferred for his own safety, as he is linked to a high profile case.
Earlier in the day, Clark’s attorney, Michael Andre, told the Associated Press Clark was frustrated by his arrest and his family is fearful. Andre told 9NEWS police have not told him about the new information regarding Clark’s suspected involvement in the case.
Clark appeared in court on Wednesday on an unrelated misdemeanor traffic warrant for driving under restraint. Clark’s parole violation stemmed from a residence violation in that he was not living at the address he supplied to his probation officer.
Denver Police have asked 9NEWS not to show a picture of Clark. They also will not comment on whether or not Clark is cooperating or even if he has provided any information regarding the Williams case.
On Wednesday, the Denver Broncos announced that its players are offering a $100,000 award in addition the $2,000 currently being offered by Crime Stoppers. The award is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest and murder charges filed.
Anyone with any information about the incident should call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous. The phone line is staffed 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

Great news. I hope they nail him to the wall.
Also very cool to see what the Bronco players did concerning the reward money. Way to go, guys.

Very good news, but also bad news that the players are offer 100k. If they weren't offering the reward, that would mean the were making actual progress on the case.

Most people in colorado are pretty hardcore bronco fans. Most prisoners in colorado are from colorado. Most prisons have tvs. These guys probably watched the Broncos every sunday and have the same respect for DWill that you and I have and were probably just as shocked as we were that it could happen to him. Maybe a little less shocked since alot of them have been involved with stuff like this themselves, but i believe that there are some really angry people in the pen right now just waiting to take it out on whoever gets convicted. Another reason that i hope they do get the right people.

I'd venture a guess that if this guy is found guilty, he'll be sent out of state due to the circumstances.

I don't know the exact laws, but they can probably hold him without charging him, which is a good thing. They can hold him on the parole violation.

Why don't they want the guy's pic shown?
It's for his safety.
MTV got a guy killed by showing his photo. After Tupac died there was a guy who was thought to be a suspect. Before the police could find him his photo was shown by MTV. The guy was killed in the streets before the police found him. He may not have even been the killer. MTV shouldn't have shown his photo.

Why don't they want the guy's pic shown?
Because it will taint any lineup the police might show any potential witnesses. It takes away a potential defense to throw out said lineup. Actually very smart for a change considering how often prosecuters blow it.

I love it when they call suspects "persons of interest". Sounds like they are hot on the trail but these thugs clam up. You have to let them dig their own graves.
All we can hope for is justice, but nothing will bring DWill back. Oh man.
I'm not very impressed with Javon for jumping the funeral and being spotted in Vegas at a strip club, which in Vegas is short for whore house. I'm not going to say anything else. People act strange about death.

If he is cooperating they won't want it to get out. The guy is a crip and that will get him or his family killed quickly. Not that he doesn't deserve it...

I want the trigger man not the guy beside him.
Beat it out of him....lol
It SEEMS the police are making progress...I hope they are being truthful about all this. I don't mind the 100k reward...it makes the players feel like they are helping find the murderer of their friend.

It's not just from the people upset about the William's killing. It's that stupid gang code. Remember this guy is an associate of the guy who owns the vehicle - already in jail. A witness who was to testify in his case was gunned down six days before her scheduled testimony.
If believed to have given the police any information this guy's "family" will shoot him down like a rabid dog in the street at the first given opportunity.

I am tired of thugery. I am even more tired of glorification of thugery. I was on the 16th street mall today and I saw a street cart that had STOP SNITCHING tshirts for sale. Right there at Civic Center less than six blocks from where DW lost his life.
I am tired of low-life scum affecting the quality life in this country. For the most part they are well fed people whose basic needs are met, yet for some reason they migrate towards the lowest of common denomeration: violence.

So is the Reverend Kelly. He's been on TV alot lately. In one of my posts last week I said I was going to contact him to see what we can do tell help his cause. From all the TV I've watched about the D-will murder I don't think there is a single person in Denver who has a better grasp of what is going on them him.
His non-profit anti-gang organization (OPEN DOOR) has helped alot of youths stay out of trouble. I called him specifically last week to see what I could do. A few others pmed me also to see what was needed. Anyhow there are many ways we can help. There is alot of information on his website. See my sig line. Reverend Kelly has my contact info and said he will be intouch. He's obviously busy with all the recent events and trying to get the word out how bad the problem really is.
The sad thing is this is nothing new. He's been at this since 1987. The gang problem is wide spread. Infact I just saw him again on TV tonight on a show called "Colorado Inside and out". The "Rev" as people call him has been to more funerals related to gang violence than anyone else in Denver. He knows what is going on. He made it a point that the local politicians haven't acknoweldged the situation. Infact he said "Not one local official attended D-wills funeral yet they were all lining up to get on the podium when we won the superbowls". I've heard various estimates on the number of gang members but it is somewhere between 15,000-30,000!
There is a full breakdown of all the gangs in Denver on his site from what they wear, to the areas they control. You can read more about him on his site and get more info on gangs than any other place I've been able to find. http://www.therev.org/Frames1.asp
Anyhow I told the "Rev" I'm ready to help him with the fight. He said good. I told him that many Broncos fans out there are also sick of the gang violence. He said "It takes something like this to bring attention to what I've been fighting for over 20 years...We'll see if people are still ready to help 3 weeks from now". I agreed that when emotions run high people want to get involved but how quickly we all forget.
Long story short the "Rev" said he will be in contact with me on the immediate "Wish list" of how I or others can help. I'll be happy to share this info if there are others who want to contribute in honor of Darrent's life and to those who want to make a difference.
The "Rev" is the real deal.......

Trying to keep kids out of gangs has been the cornerstone of gang prevention models for years. Give kids hope and a chance=won't turn to gangs. I think though that will only get us half way. At some point we have to completly get rid of the ones that do join gangs. If you join gang and couple it with gang activity those people just need to not be let out of prison. All too often we put them in for a year or so. Then they get out and kill someone and we wonder why. The why is because the justice system is too easy on them. On one side they stick drug users in for way to long, and let the violent ones out way to soon.

Well we can do nothing. That is definetly an option.
The "Rev" I was speaking about definetly isn't your normal joe. He isn't asking people to take up bats and patrol the streets but that is probably an option. I've had to stop my fair share of "kids" beating on one another at a local high school in Aurora more than once and I'm sure plenty of Omaners have had to do the same. Don't know if they were gang members but kids these days will definetly beat one another to the point of needing hospital care. Seen plenty of kids carried off the football field I lived next to and it wasn't a football related injury.
There are dozens of way that one can contribuite to an organization that works with youths at risk. This particular program is asking for people's time to work with kids, donations are welcomed with any charity, they need computers, sporting goods, and many many other things. They also have a car restoration program that has caught my eye. Basically the kids spend time working on cars, fixing them up, pimping them out. I told the Rev this is one angle I'd like to explore with him. 8')
Like I said he in the process of trying to come up with the best plan of attack. D-will has brought alot of attention to Denver gang violence and I got the feeling that more people finally woke up like myself. I figured there issues but had no idea it was this bad.
Don't know where you live cuttthemdown but there is probabably some local charity doing similar work in your community if it's a major metro area. If not that is great and you make look to one in another community to lend a small hand. If we all wait for someone else to do something for us then it won't get done.
I agree with you though a larger policing effort is needed. "Rev" was talking about how thin the gang units are in Denver. I have a feeling the more he speaks out and D-wills death will probably change that if people keep putting pressure on the local government for change. He is definetly doing that.
BigGuy I will keep you posted.

Form no-nonsense counter gang units to deal with this "dirt" in the same manner they deal with most human beings. Once formed, coordinate with official investigations, and then, take no prisoners. All that is required is, the gang members be informed when the special units arrive, and they are given the opportunity to surrender. If not? Exterminate them all, and anyone with them. That is exactly what they deserve, nothing less, nothing more...dman
Gangmembers live on the edge, they are just asking for help over the edge. Give it to them.

[QUOTE=defenseman;1439178 Exterminate them all[/QUOTE]
I suppose extermination/or prison is an option. So is prevention. ;D I kinda see it as a "cold war" situation. We have weapons in place but our threat isn't working. We need a "Reagan" to step up and fight them. I think "Rev" is the guy in Denver along with the local politicians, police force, and concerned citizens. I was born in Denver and it really pisses me off what happened to D-will and what is happening to my city. I don't live there full time but still maintain a residence there and I'll be damned if I sit idle. Posting pics of D-will just doesn't do it for me anymore.

AMEN BigGuy. It is real easy and it's real easy for us to sit back and wait for others to do something. When Katrina rocked NewOrleans a bunch of us mobilzed to help that city out. Alot of Broncos fans jumped in to help raise money/things for the victims. Many members of this site are pictured here.http://www.orangeforceone.com/albums/ptm/20050908_KatrinaRelief/index.html
I think it's time we do the same for our city.
That's just one example of things we can do. There is a list of them on his website. Unfortunately the site isn't very friendly and doesn't allow you to post direct links to certain pages. There is a "What you can do section".
I'm not sure how current his things we can do list are though BigGuy. That is why I'm waiting for futher instructions.
The "Rev" is real busy right now speaking out on the issue. Infact he just did a show with Alfred Williams also. I think Alfred is getting involved if he already hasn't. KS 107.5 also stepped up to the plate to join Rev. Things are happening around town.
No reason two of us, 10 of us, 50 of us from this site can't help out.
Whether you live in Denver or not we are all on the same team when it comes to defending the team we love. One of our own was gunned down like a dog in the streets. Are we all going to stand down and wait for the next Broncos to be shot down?
A war against senseless gang violence in Denver has been declared. You are going to hear more about it as things unfold.
I just can't see the Broncos, the players, members of our community letting this situation fall by the way side. This isnt' a battle against insurgents in Iraq. This is trouble youths on the streets of Denver killing one another. Hardly a situation that is helpless.
Its time for our members of the community and Broncos fans to go to to work.

Here is a list of what the site says we can do.
How You Can Help Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives
Open Door is a not-for-profit, community-based, non-law enforcement organization. As such, it depends solely on the donations from private individuals, corporations and foundations. We are extremely grateful to those in our community who share our vision of helping to curb gang-related violence and gang recruitment activities in the Denver Metro area.
Although we are realistic about the incredible size of the problem, we know that every life we touch is a step closer to the solution. You can help us change a life. Change a neighborhood. Change the direction of the next generation. It is not too big a problem when we work together to save one kid at a time.
A financial contribution from you or your company can help us provide more viable alternatives and activities for members and potential members. We will also gladly accept donations of services, equipment or monthly pledges and donations of time and energy. To contact Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives:

Youth Resource Unit
The Youth Resource Unit consists of four to six young adults recruited from within the community served by Open Door. The primary function of the unit will be to serve as an extension of the After School and Summer Program reaching out to the families of the children Open Door serves in an effort to identify problems away from school that could lead to gang involvement or other negative activities. They will also be responsible for reaching out and following up on youth that were involved with Open Door but have moved on to middle school.
These resource leaders will have either grown up surrounded by gang activity or have actual experiences in gang involvement and have made admirable progress overcoming these negative influences and in changing their lifestyles.
The Youth Resource Unit will function as a team in order to achieve the programmatic goals set forth by Open Door. All members of the unit will participate in an orientation and training period to ensure that they understand clearly the policies and procedures governing all staff of Open Door. They will also receive training on relationship building and intervention strategies.
All members of the unit will assist with the After School and Summer Programs.
* They will become acquainted with all of the children in an effort to develop strong relationships and rapport.
* They will do home visits and maintain positive communications between the families. Unit members will be available to partner with Rev. Kelly when necessary to stifle potential violence or confrontations.
* They will also serve as monitors for crowd control at special events, such as the Juneteenth celebration and the Martin Luther King (MLK) day parade.

I am sure we could collect donations from many of the Maners. We need a collection place. Anyone have an idea? I don't have any storage space, but I could help deliver donations after they have been collected.

Right on BigGuy and Steven. I know on his list he definetly said computers are needed. I know for a fact we omaners are an internet savy group with plenty of extra computers and such.
Right now I'm just trying to round up some soldiers. That is what "The Rev" said to do.
My friend Ray who lives in Castle Rock is also jumping in. A little at a time and we can make some positive changes. One thing always leads to another.
If you want to spear head a collection point BigGuy that would be cool. The thing is I'm not sure how their donation process works as I'm sure they will give a receipt to those who donate for tax purposes so it may be that individuals dropping off gear and such may have to go on the spot or they might be able to mail it off.
I just tried calling but nobody was there.
I'll be intouch with the options of mailing stuff in for those out of town or dropping things off.
I'm interested in spear heading a car project. They say then need cool cars to fix up. That is something I'm interested in working on. My bus crew has alot of connections to cool cars. I think it would be killer to see the kids pimp out an old cool car D-will style and maybe auction it off. I was kicking that idea around with "rev".
I'm sure we could get the players to sign it to make it even more special.
Anyhow anything anyone can do is a bonus. The key is to do something....

This info on his cool cars program. If anyone has any old schwinn bikes I'm sure they'd love those. Those make great cruiser bikes!
The Cool Cars Program
A new focus of Open Door has been the inclusion of the "Cool Cars" Project which includes low-riders, racecars and racing bikes. Open Door has teamed up with the Eternity Car Club and the Fox Racing Team to establish certitude in an effort to reach younger children in elementary and middle schools. Rev. Kelly believes that one of the keys to keeping youths out of gangs is to reach them when they're young and impressionable. "We want to plant the seeds in their lives." Children of today are into both audio and video entertainment as a way to pacify the voids in their lives. The "Cool Cars" Project exposes the children to the flamboyant world of automobiles and bikes, breaks down barriers and opens up channels of communication.

I wouldn't mind para-military enforcement in really bad areas to clean these gangs out. But it's easy for us citizens to say those things and alot harder for govt to do something that violent and out of the norm.

I live in the Chicago Suburbs.
I got home from our short trip to Denver for the 49er game & there were 2 stories just like DWills on WGN. In Both Cases the victims are still in critical condition.
My guitar teacher teaches downtown, she taught a good kid that was a victim of random gun fire from rival gang warfare.
This has to stop & I have to be a part of it no matter where I live.
I am also going to find somewhere close to home where I can help out with Guitar lessons or something. Everyone has someone in their life that was there for them as a kid that was a mentor in some way.
I would like to be a positive mentor & keep a kid from making a wrong choice.
You are either part of the problem or Part of the solution.

If this fellow talks, does he get the money? Maybe he would be willing to give it to the Rev? Just before he gets to Canon City......
Gang violence sucks, and I have no sympathy for any of them. Denver had a gang enforcement unit, but when the tax money dried up, so did the unit.

Sorry to hear the news in Chicago. It just so happens that there were two murders in NO that have really got the citizens to protest as well. Things are much worse in NO than I realized. I'm sure some of you watched Anderson360 yesterday. It's a mess there.
Great Sig Line Steven. That's a favorite line of mine as well. Every major metro city has a program like "Revs". Seek them out...get involved....
I looked around but it appears that the breaking news didn't make it to the Mane from yesterday evening about Brandon Marshall @ the club? There are 5 suspects with names they are looking for now? Did anyone post this?

Really. When the news broke I was going to update the Mane but figured there would already be 3 new threads on it.
Summary:
Brandon Marshall was involved in a verbal confrontation at the same bar. It may have been a shoveing match but I can't remember the details. Draw your own conclusions from that. The police gave 5 names to two local small airports to be on the lookout but they said the 5 suspects might still be in Denver.
Bottom line is there are 5 people that police have identified as suspects in this case. I'm sure the names will come out soon.
Things are progressing pretty fast in this case!
