This blurb (http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/nfl/article/0,2777,DRMN_23918_5260095,00.html) was in an article about Darrent Williams funeral. I don't know why this struck me as odd, but it did. How do you suppose this decision came about?

Roger Goodall: "Aw hell, Gene - I just feel like a load of crap over this."

Gene Washington: "Let's do the right thing and give it back. We'll use generic toilet paper for the league offices next month to save money."

Roger Goodall: "Good idea, Gene. Call a press conference!"

I mean, it's nice to give it back. But they announced it? :nono:

"The NFL announced Friday it would return a $15,000 fine levied against Williams for arguing with an official in a Nov. 19 game against San Diego. League spokesman Greg Aiello said the money would be turned over to the Broncos to return to Williams' family."

Yeah I heard that on the 5:00 news, pretty decent of them.

Good spot Dom. It just really goes to show how off the hip the NFL's fining procedure is. Can you imagine getting fined for not wearing your socks at a suitable height?

I've posted it before but I'll do it again. Hunter S. Thompson wrote an article at the superbowl in '72. I believe it was held at the Astrodome. Tom Keating had this to say about the league ""As a matter of general philosophy, the National Football League is the last great bastion of fascism in the United States".

Ergo the NFL's ability to levy such a big fine for arguing with an official, and then to go ahead and take it back posthumously. The nerds in the league office are slime. I hope they all choke on their own tongues.

:spit: NO WAY! I was hoping they'd choke on their own tongues, too! Or, at the very least, I was hoping they'd accidentally bite the very tip of their tongue right as they were sitting down to eat their favorite meal - like maybe a big ribeye steak. Biting their tongue would ruin their meal, and then they would get a nasty old canker sore to add insult to injury.

But choking on their own tongues would work, too.

Good spot Dom.

Ditto. When I first saw it I thought it was a nice gesture. But on second thought, wouldn't it have been that much more kind if they would not have made a deal of it? suits.....

Don't think the league office won't find some way to get that money back. Probably in the form of some off the wall creative tax placed on the burden of the fans.
