Wonder if you guys/gals could help on a little project I kinda working with respect to the upcoming draft. I'm looking for those players that you think have first round talent, not concerned with outside issues. I'm not looking for you to say player A is better then player B, but rather this guy is fit in this group. More of slotting thing. thanks

Example:

QB: Quinn, Troy Smith, Russell
RB: Peterson, Lynch
FB
WR
TE
OL

DL
LB
SS/FS
CB

K
P

No FB's, K, or P will be taken in the first. That being said Joe Thomas, OT, Quentin Moses, DE, Calvin Johnson, WR, and LaRon Landry, S, are locks, more to come, dealing with my oldest son who is wanting attention.

this one is too early to call, at this time last year derek hagan, leonard pope, and mathias kiwanuka were the top players at their positions on many boards.

all that said, add leon hall, ted ginn, and take off paul posluzny

I don't think Troy Smith is a first-round talent. At quarterback; you have Quinn and Russell as the two big guns. If Brohm came out, him too. I consider Troy Smith to be a tier-two prospect like Stanton out of Michigan State. Also, it's really hard to guage this so early on, but I'll do my best. . . I'll italicize those who haven't declared but would be in my opinion if they DID.

As you can see, in my mind, so much is dependent on juniors. This draft would suck balls if it wasn't for those guys expected to come out.

Offensive First-Round Talent

QB: Brady Quinn, JaMarcus Russell, Brian Brohm
RB: Marshawn Lynch, Adrian Peterson
FB: No Prospect, Brian Leonard will go in the second-round though.
WR: Calvin Johnson, Ted Ginn, Jr., Dwayne Jarrett, Sidney Rice, Robert Meacham
TE: Greg Olsen, Zach Miller
OT: Joe Thomas, Levi Brown
[B]OG: No Prospect
C: No Prospect

Defensive First-Round Talent

DE: Gaines Adams, Quentin Moses, Victor Abiamiri, LaMarr Woodley [Woodley as a 3-4 RUSHBACKER]
DT: Marcus Thomas (First-round talent, first-class retard), Amobi Okoye, Alan Branch, Glenn Dorsey, Tank Tyler
OLB: Paul Polsuszny, Lawrence Timmons
ILB: Patrick Willis (This kid is a great player and a first-class human being.)
CB: Leon Hall, Marcus McCauley, Darrelle Revis [Perhaps Antoine Cason if he declares]
S: Michael Griffin, LaRon Landry, Reggie Nelson

That's off the top of my head; there are a few borderline propsects. . . like Smith and Stanton along with some other guys like Michael Bush, (pre-injury) and Kenny Irons, (pre-sucking this year) and a lot of juniors I'm forgetting.
K: No Prospect; but Mason Crosby is a second-rounder. . .

Coincidentally, I listed 32 players. . . with some "reaches" or who I expect to come out. With some more juniors declaring along with the big names; it should fill out more; but it's really not that strong as far as top-end talent goes.

Good list, Req.

Here are some I might disagree with:
G - I expect Justin Blalock for Texas to be a first rounder
DT - I think Quinn Pitcock possibly could move back into the first round. The national championship game will be an important one for him.
S - I'll be surprised if Griffin ends up in the first. (But i've been wrong before!)
TE - I have both Olsen and Miller as second rounders

Your comment of Leonard being a second rounder - everything will depend on his combine #'s. Could be as high as 2nd or as low as early 4th. My guess at this point is late second, early third.

One player that I believe will be a riser is Charles Johnson, DE, Georgia. I hope he doesn't have a fabulous combine and we steal him in the second.

That'd be awesome if we got Charles Johnson in the second; Scott Wright at NFLDC thinks he'll rise and be a late first-round pick when it's all said and done.

I completely forgot Blalock. He's an all-around lineman who can pretty much do it all and play multiple positions. It'll be interesting to see if people put him at tackle or at guard; I think Kiper had Blalock as a first-round talent at tackle all season long.

I've never been a huge fan of Pitcock and I guess I just forgot about him. I think he's borderline but yeah, he'll have a shot.

I'd be surprised if Griffin ended up in the first, but I think he's that talented. This year he proved he had the best ball skills and was the best in run support; and looked like the most well-rounded safety to me.

I think that one of those junior TE's will rise into the late-first. If Olsen's not taken in the first-round Minnesota will draft him at #39/40 -- whichever they have. I have a feeling he's a player Childress would love to have in his offense for Tavaris.

I fear the same. He was more impressive than Moses this year.

moses has more clear-cut talent though, and if you think that having moses on the other side didnt open things up you are vastly mistaken my friend....

Well, you have good company. Obviously more scouts and draft geeks feel that Moses is the better player. If it were me and we had a choice between Moses and Johnson, I wouldn't hesitate to take Johnson - by what I have seen watching both play.

But I recognize that isn't how most see it. :wiggle:

Olsen is not a first rounder, especially not with the year he had this year. He's a solid TE, but he cant block for ****, had a drops problem and seperation problem this year. His stats arent bad, but after what he did to Buster Davis and Ernie Sims in the opener in 2005 I expected alot more from him the last two years. I realize that having Kyle back there didn't exactly help Greg but still. He's a decent TE prospect, but he isn't a first rounder.

charles johnson in the second would be sick but very unlikely. i dont see DE as much of a need, lang and ekuban are pretty good in all situations and dumervil/chuckwurah are good enough backups, get rid of engelberger, hes horrible at containing. all of that said, charles johnson is a great talent and would be a steal in the second.
