I'm still not buying this 8 million dollar cap hit. We don't pay his 7M salary if he's released.

News: The Houston Chronicle believes the Texans "will sign Jake Plummer after he's waived by the Broncos" and draft a quarterback to develop.
Impact: Plummer may not be released by Denver until after June 1. The Chronicle's John McClain is hot on Houston junior quarterback Kevin Kolb, who will make his decision regarding his future at the school soon. David Carr's cap hit is going to be tough for the Texans to eat. (Tue. Jan 2, 2007)

I wouldn't be heart broken to see the Chiefs grab David Carr when he is let go if the price tag is reasonable. I don't think he will ever live up to his first pick in the draft status but I think he is better than he has looked due to being on a bad team his entire career.

I would dislike that very much. Behind your O-line he might have more than 1.5 seconds to throw the ball. I think given the opportunity behind a good line he would be a good QB for someone.

I would like for Denver to get him. It doesn't make sense though to have him as the backup when the team could use a veteran as a backup since Cutler is still young and a little green.

When we do unload Plummer, I hope we take a serious look at Garcia. West coast offense kind of guy with smarts and a desire to play.

Totally agree.....I think Garcia would be perfect as a backup here.....

Garcia will not take another backup job. He probably stays in Philly since McNabb will not be ready till around Thanksgiving.

You buy whatever you want to buy, too bad you're wrong. There's $8+M in unamortized bonus money yet to hit the cap.

Plummer and a 4th for Dominick Davis?

Oh, the irony!

Depending on who you believe, Davis will either hang it up because of his knee injury or he's ahead of progress on his rehab (even though surgery was last June and was originally said to be minor).

But, that's not the craziest part of it. Seems Davis got his surname from an adopted father and now wants to be known by his *real* surname - Williams!

That's right. Another D-Will in Denver! I don't think Bronco fans are ready for that right now.

Yes, Garcia will stay in Philly, unless he gets a good contract with the opportunity to start elsewhere.

Although he would be an ideal backup for Cutler, Denver is not the situation Garcia would be looking for if he were to consider leaving Philly.

Yeah, but he wanted to start in Cleveland instead, which was an unmitigated disaster for everybody. They put him in an offense that didn't fit him and he got loud about it.

I don't see Garcia leaving Philly to be a backup with the Broncos. He has performed well for the Eagles and their offense. He had no success in Cleveland or Detroit, so odds are he's happy where he's at. Plus McNabb hasn't been healthy much the last couple of years, so chances are he gets to play.

I'm actually curious what happens with Garcia.

This is just pure speculation, but I wonder if Garcia could be competing for the starting QB spot in Philly.

Look, I know that if all things are the same, and you just said "who is better, mcnabb or garcia" everybody says McNabb.

But Garcia is winning, and not only that, but even with his knee, McNabb has trade value. I'm not saying it happens, but what happens if this rolling Philly team wins a playoff game or two?

The Houston Texans' running back formerly known as Domanick Davis says he's close to 100 percent healed from knee surgeries.

He's legally switched his last name to Williams, cut his braids, and changed his number from 37 to 31. The decision was made to honor his mother, whose maiden name is Williams. He's now lifting heavy weight without his knee swelling up, which had been his problem before landing on I.R. in September. "He changed his hair, his clothes and his name," teammate Dunta Robinson said. "I hope he changes his knee too."

For Plummer and a second day pick? That'd be a great deal for us!

If Garcia leads them to a superbowl win, and leads Philly to a 7-1 record before Mcnabb returns... Then there is some validity to your arguement But, Garcia is no spring chicken. Will turn 37 this year. This is Garcia's last dance to lead a team to a SB victory.

you don't think much of Dominick Davis? Plummer and a 4th. You must be bargain shopping.

thats not bargain shopping, thats being realistic. Teams aren't going to want plummer. Kubiak would be the only one because he knows what Jake can do in his system.

We're not going to trade Plummer to anyone. We would have to eat his entire $8million cap hit in one go instead of spreading it out over two seasons if we cut him instead.

Besides if we cut him this year and designate it as a post June 1 cut then we actually save some cap space for 2007.

I thought Herc posted something about how the cap rules had been reformed by the 2006 CBA to make trading more cap friendly. I looked at the 2006 cba but didn't see anything ... or anything I could understand.

That is why Plummer and a 4th is bargain shopping for Davis. Plummer can be picked up for nothing.(as far as a trade anyway)

I sort of disagree. Plummer may indeed be worthless, but dang a fourth is still a fourth. I wouldn't give a forth for Dom Davis and those knees. (-:

Seriously, Jake's tanked so bad that any team willing to take a chance on him has to be a situation where he can see a chance to succeed, so why would the team give even a conditional pick, when most likely he'd want to sign with them as a FA anyway?

What idiocy. Plummer is still a good QB.His win percentage in Denver is testament to that. He tanked so bad because he lost Kubiak, got a new receiver in Walker, a new tight end and Cutler looking over his shoulder. Seriously people what did you expect? "Hey Plummer help train this kid who is gonna be your replacement oh and by the way take us to the SB while you're at it."

Whatever team ends up with Carr is going to get a steal. His O-Line in Houston has been worse than awful his entire career. Plummer just MIGHT be a good QB for the Texans - he can scramble, and Texans QB's need to do a bunch of that.

Hopefully you guys don't pick him up, and we do. :D

I probably wasn't clear. Jake was a big question when Shanny signed him. He was known as a guy who'd try to win it all by himself and throw the bad pick. Shanny got him to play within himself, and last year he did make some plays out of the pocket. But, there's still a perception that at best he's a roll out WC qb, and now I think it's fair to say he's got a choker lable on him.

If you think there's a perception he has more value now than when he signed with Den, I just disagree with you.

Yeah, Hou's the best fit for him, imo. No pressure, and even if they pass on a qb this year, most likely they'll be picking in the top third in 09 too.
