Denver Bronco player killed in drive-by shooting

DENVER, Colorado (AP) -- Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in downtown Denver early Monday morning, police said.

Team spokesman Jim Saccomano said police called him about 3 a.m. from the scene of the shooting and told him three people had been shot and that Williams had been killed.

Saccomano said he spoke with coach Mike Shanahan and others in the organization.

"Complete shock. We're speechless. It takes words away. A terrible tragedy," Saccomano said.

Hours before the shooting, the Broncos lost to San Francisco 26-23 in overtime, eliminating them from the playoff race.

What the hell was a prominent guy like Williams doing out at 0300 in a large downtown area anyway? Dude was askin' for trouble. Even Times Square in New York was clear of people well before then. Williams should've had his ass home where he belongs, or at a chick's house safe in her snatch.

You always are going to have those sick demented people who cannot seperate real life from sports. Some fans really do think that any fan or player of another team is an enemy. I'm sure we have Broncos fans and Raiders fans both serving together in Iraq and I doubt they are squabling over such nonsense when their lives lay on the line.

The right thing to do would be the website admin of those forums banning those who make such classless comments on their boards. We shall see.
