I believe 27 should officially be retired. Darrent was a heck of a ball player and i think he deserves it.

Not to mention it was also Atwater's number.

I am least bit shocked about what happened in the game yesterday and i was fine about it.. though we lost the game. but a human life is more important.. and i think this shock will live on for a few years.

Thanks to darrent for his few years as a bronco.. and may he rest in peace

How do I tell my 12 year old little Bronco maniac something like this.

Ugh.

RIP Darrent and peace to your family.

Just horrible.

retire the number. i hope bailey wears the number in the pro bowl. then, never again for any Bronco. hold the ceremony before the first home game of the 2007 season. invite Atwater and DWill's family.

I want a Bronzed statue of Dwill with his fro hawk, I think that would be a great tribute to him, his family, teammates, and fans. We need to get some type of letter sent to the Broncos stating the fans want something to be done.

I wonder if we could create a thread of well wishes ONLY and have it printed and sent to the family, somehow. This is the biggest Broncos community on-line. I'm sure the family would be touched to see a little showing of support.

The man gave everything he had to this town, to bronco fans, to himself, 5 foot 8, 165 lbs, NFL player. He wasn't perfect, but none of us are..........

His memory should NEVER be forgotten by those of us who wear orange and blue, he was one of us, he was a BRONCO, and will always be a BRONCO

GODSPEED #27, you are in a better place.............

If we walk away with anything from this tragedy it is this....Life is very short. Don't waste time and make sure you always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS remind your loved ones that you love them!!

I got this in email from a fellow Broncos fan today and thought it was truly descriptive of D-Will.

Christ blessed us with Darrent's wonderful joy of life, something we all could learn from our young brother. "Enthusia", the Greek root word for enthusiasm, means "God in You". This truly was Darrent's life's expression. Thank you for helping him provide this for all of us.

I was wondering the same thing. I really feel for his family right now. Darrent was obviously a bright spot in everyones life I can't imagine what his relatives must be feeling.

One of my favorite memories of Darrent's career was in his very first preseason game. A Houston RB caught a swing pass and turned upfield and the much smaller Darrent lowered his shoulder and completely flattened him.

He certainly knew how to make a first impression. :)

I saw a clip of that play earlier tonight. It was unreal because the RB pops up and slaps D-Will on the helmet as if to say "wow, great hit!", like he never would have expected it.

Darrent spent his football career as if he was on a mission to defy the odds and show that size didn't matter. He sure proved his doubters wrong, and if the 2005 draft were held yesterday he probably would have been the 1st CB taken.

I know anything he did on the football field is secondary right now, but it's nice to look back on his short career to see how successful he was at doing what he obviously enjoyed so much.

Sad, sad news...A young man's life, with a promising future, cut too short by a senseless act.

I wonder if we could create a thread of well wishes ONLY and have it printed and sent to the family, somehow. This is the biggest Broncos community on-line. I'm sure the family would be touched to see a little showing of support.

For those who wish to express sympathy, here is a link to a condolence page in the Ft Worth Star-Telegram:

The Broncos website has one. It captures who Darrent was very well, IMO.

Still in shock. No matter how much I wish this not to be true, it doesn't change a thing.

I think it would be really cool if Champ changes to 27 next year.

I know he is 24, but 27 should be on the field, and who better than champ to wear it?

All the players will be wearing #27 either a patch on the upper left jersey closest to the heart or a #27 sticker on the helment for sure...maybe both!!

I haven't weighed in on this yet, but my sentiments are alike to those of all Broncos fans. Darrent Williams was a fun player to watch and a good person. His future was bright in the NFL. I think Shanahan said it best when he said he was "heartsick". That's the way I felt alll day yesterday and today for that matter. I could barely watch New Years Day football because my mind would instantly wander back to DWill.

It is so tragic and so senseless how he died. Having experienced sudden and tragic deaths of friends and family during my 31 years on this earth, I have asked God why things like this happen. The only answer I can come up with is that God is using those people in new ways now.

Darrent had a profound affect on many of us through football and obviously touched the lives of many off the field as well. Darrent's death will not be in vain and will serve as a reminder of how fragile life is. While we may not understand the timing of it all, we must have faith that the answers will be revealed in due time.

The thoughts and prayers of my family go out to the Williams and Broncos family. Rest In Peace, Darrent. You are gone, but not forgotten.

How many guys Darrent's size could make it in the NFL?

Damn few. Which shows what a great athlete he was.

What impressed me was not just his ball hawking skills and his speed -- but his mental toughness.

The kid was so young - and had his best days ahead of him.

What an incredible loss.

I remember when Darrent blitzed from the outside against the Eagles, He nailed Donavon McNabb and took him down, You don't even see a lot of Linebackers getting him down that quickly.
