View Full Version : Could Mangold take Foster's Job?

Considering a potential replacement next year for Georgina Foster...
Remember Ohio States Nick Mangold, the top ranked center in the 2006 draft? There's another Mangold in the pipeline now...a 300 pounder who squats over 500 pounds...obviously has good NFL bloodlines...head coach describes as a hitter that "loves to flatten people"...good drive and determination, but footwork "needs work" however. Watch the video before you vote please:

Foster wooldn't work at guard on this team unless he dropped at least 20 pounds. Moving him out of town is the better idea.

What's that got to do with the question?

RG would be perfect for George. If he has feet for tackle (barely, right?) he would surely move well enough for guard. I think replacing Cooper would be the biggest benefit when Lepsis is healthy. CC just gets picked up and thrown around sometimes. As bad as he's played this year, Foster is still very young and has the great mesurables. Besides now that we have Jay throwing from the pocket pass protection is valueable.

Unless Foster gets in better shape, no way he is quick enough to run the traps and pulls required by the guards in this offense. Not to mention, he has troubles with confused on blitzes on who to pick up and sometimes lets guys go free. You want that at guard? Cutler wouldn't last a season with that lardass at guard. The team reportedly likes Kuper, so I'd look for that before Foster. Besides, Foster's contract is due up soon and hasn't shown he should be re-signed.

I've talked with Wabbit about this the last couple days, and after hearing what he has to say I'm all for moving Foster to LT and moving Lepesis to RT.

I feel bad that Foster is not getting the job done, but I feel he's had plenty of time and a player at this stage, should be better than he is by now if really going to be that good. I am not convinced at all he will suddenly start playing great at guard either and since the team has never really seemed to think about Foster at guard by now, it seems they don't see him as a guard either. At least not on this offense.

I'm not so sure Mangold's sister can do it in the NFL but I will tell you this:
My 11 year old rookie daughter had better form and makes better decisions at OT than George Foster. In all fairness to George my daughter played LT and George played RT, so I guess I shouldn't compare the two.
BTW, my 9 year old rookie son also played OT at a higher level than Foster. My son started every position but Center all year long.

Thats for sure
Foster can't pass block on the right, why would it change on the left? Foster sucks. Straight up. I've haven't played since 2002 and I could don the pads and do better than him.
We will be a much stronger unit once Foster is gone. Sad but true. We just need to cut our losses on this one.

Fortunately decent RT's arent as difficult to come by as a good LT.

LOL, I got banned for talking about this a long time ago!!!!! I'll say it again any dad or brother who let his lil girl or sister turn into that should be ashamed of themsleves. For sure no boy will want to kiss her, date her, do anything with her but play football and lift lbs. But for sure she could prob outplay Foster.
Cute post and all. Some fat chic playing against HS guys might be one thing but lining up against the likes of Julius Peppers and Lights Out is another world all together. Cute thread though.

The one thing that Wabbit brought up to me that is very accurate is that there are many players who are simply "niche" players, and we could very easily find out that Fosters niche may be on the left side. My speculation is that Foster's confidence is shot and that he's given up, basically. A move to the left side may boost that confidence level, and he definetly has all the tools to be a great LT.
It's also very possible he could be moved to guard, but I'd prefer to see him at LT before we sent him to guard.

Eric Pears is replacing Foster when Lepsis is healthy. Until then we're hoping for Meadows to stay healthy and keep Foster off the field.

Oh, this is just brilliant. Move your worst offensive lineman to the most important position on the line. Wow.
You see, at this point, Foster is clearly the worst offensive tackle on the squad. Matt Lepsis goes down, Erick Pears, NOT George Foster replaces Lepsis at LT. Then, all of a sudden, Foster himself gets benched for Adam Meadows and Foster officially becomes the clown of the offensive line. Not good enough to beat out a untested, undrafted tackle on the left side DESPITE the fact the has over 30 starts in this league and was a first rounder.
Move Foster to left tackle. HA! Wabbit was pulling your chain on that one. What else did he tell you? Are they moving Kyle Johnson to tailback? Or Nate Jackson to safety? Let's be serious here, people.
George Foster at left tackle. That's funny.
He got benched for a guy who has been building houses for the past two years and is coming off major shoulder surgery. George freaking Foster. The man is trash. Trash.

Foster played LT in college so that side may be more natural for him. George has two more relatively cheap years on his contract, so there's no reason not to give the switch to guard a try. I don't watch Cards games (who would?) but apparently Leonard Davis has come on this year and is a free agent. Denver could certainly become a big line in a hurry by going with:
LT: L. Davis
LG: Foster
C: Hamilton
RG: Kuper
RT: Lepsis
Regardless, Foster should remain on the team in case Lepsis' recovery from microfracture surgery doesn't go well.

You know how bad you have to be for fans to notice you suck on the offensive line? I mean, you really, really have to be bad for fans to curse you out after each game. No one notices the offensive line. No one. 95% of fans couldn't tell the difference between Walter Jones blocking or Eprahim Salamn. But then you have George Foster. Every time they hike the ball, you see a flash on the bottom left hand of the screen (foster's man) and then you see the back of Foster's jersey with those enormous love handles. That is what makes Foster special: he makes sure he gets his name on TV every pass play. He has perfected the "turn your body 180 and lunge with you left arm at the pass rusher" blocking technique.
I see Foster's name so much on TV, I damn near think he is getting paid by that Australian beer company for brand recognition. I know I feel like drinking after seeing him block -- A Foster's at that.

I think my post went totally over your head. I took issue with you saying "I'm not putting Foster in at LT" like it was your decision to make. This is a message board where we can all discuss the Broncos, but we aren't the coaching staff and we don't effect what they do. That's no different than posters making gurantees about what the Broncos will and won't do with their players when they have no clue what will really happen.

I disagree. As already stated, Foster was a LT in college when he was at his best in terms of performance. We moved him to RT after his rookie year and he hasn't played a single snap at LT since then according to my knowledge. I think it's worth a shot to give him a shot at his more natural position and see if he can hack it there.
Oh and Gonzo, I know you're just talking out of your ass and trying to stir **** up, like usual, but me and Wabbit have talked multiple times about several players and I have no reason to believe he'd "pull my chain."

Since we are playing the game of inserting our worst players in key, pivotal positions, how about demoting DJ Williams and inserting Louis Green at SLB? Makes sense. Then we could move Al Wilson to defensive end and start Keith Burns at MLB. And count me in on the 'start Chad Mustard at TE' bandwagon for next season as well.
Good times.

I don't know. Could have been that they had confidence in Pears and didn't want to risk messing up chemistry at 2 positions. Maybe they don't have confidence in switching George to LT.
