This was a given but I guess the soldier in question was given some not so good advice.

BOSTON (Reuters) - A U.S. federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit by an Iraq war veteran who claimed filmmaker Michael Moore used the veteran's image without permission in the anti-war documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11."

According to court papers, Judge Douglas Woodlock of U.S. District Court in Massachusetts dismissed the suit on Wednesday. It had sought $35 million in damages from Moore, as well as Miramax, which is owned by Walt Disney Co. and several other film companies.

The film showed Iraq war veteran Sgt. Peter Damon, who had lost his right arm near the shoulder and much of his left arm, lying in a hospital gurney at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland, saying that he feels pain but that pain-killers given him "take a lot of the edge" off of it.

The video clip was originally used by NBC Nightly News for a story about medical treatment for veterans. In Moore's film, it followed a statement by Democratic Rep. Jim McDermott (news, bio, voting record) of Washington that "they're leaving all kinds of veterans behind."

i personally was disapointed in fahrenheit and for that matter the rest of his documentaries, their was so much evidence to make bush look like a fool that i dont understand for the life of me why he took a route that contained some factual errors and in a few cases pure BS, the overall conclusion of the movie is right but parts of it are false and in turn has made the movie almost completlley dismissable and impossible to defend which is a shame because he brought up some really good true issues at the time.

Well, the hole thing would have been avoided if the serviceman would have just employed the media by sending them emails of the slander so that he could be railroaded without ever having to deal with the justice system. Who wants justice anymore? Just metaphorically lynch them with the media!

There is no writ of habeus corpus, no due process in the court of public opinion. When we look upon the mirror and see ourselves - to see the wanton bloodlust and the high that comes from condemnation and judgement of others - mix with the satisfaction of sipping one's contemptuousness it is quite a vile drink.

That's right. That's why we should take the people that we dont agree with straight to the loony court of public opinion and have them slandered to the point that they lose their livelihood. Forget the justice system, forget the constitution, forget individual right to a fair trial, just throw them under the bus and get along with it. Im sure that there are plenty of lurkers who agree 100%.

Just to let you know - i edited my post - so it sounds much more superflous and well damned important. So you better listen... ;) j/k -

Of course if those lurkers are "they" - and by "they" i mean "those whom lurk to tell and weave tales upon words spoken upon an imaginary repository to crucify those whose thoughts are disagreeable" - then by all means i'm sure they do agree..... ;)

I'd be interested in knowing how much of his wealth (of which there is plenty) Moore has given to 9/11 survivor groups, soldier's families, and so forth. He's made his riches off their suffering; if he's morally conscious, he ought to give back a little to those who have given him so much.
