View Full Version : Just got back from AZ

I just got back tonight from the game - back home in Vegas and thought I'd drop you guys a quick note, some observations:

I. The denver crowd was insane - at one point I just couldn't believe this wasn't a home game - during the 3rd quarter the Broncos fans were sooo loud in our section that the rest of the crowd started booing us - it was great to see so many fans there in Arizona

II. The new stadium in Glendale is AWESOME - the weather was a warm 55-65deg and they had the roof open all game long. If you haven't been - drop some bill$ and go to Phoenix for a game. They have a mural dedicated to all the state HS football champion teams in the main concourse and a lot of good finishes and touches to the stadium although the exterior still needs some Bowlen touch with some statutes and waterfalls, etc. There is a new Cabelas just north of the stadium and I know you boys from Colorado love those hillbilly heaven stores.

III. Matt Leinart broke Jake Plummer's rookie single season record for passing yards - WHILE JAKE WAS SIDELINED IN THE BUILDING!!! I felt sooo bad for him, I started yelling 'NICE HOLD JAKE' after each fg and extra point - he's our new 3.4 million dollar FG holder/placer.

IV. Foxworth played solid - he's much less athletic than DWill but more consistent and that paid off today. They threw at him most of the day and he had an awesome game against an amazing receiving trio.

V. Leonard Pope, Fitzgerald, Bolden, and Leinart are gonna be good next year - they might need a new coach and some tweaks on the defense but this Phoenix team is gonna be good. There Oline is really short - wow! and how tall is #86 WR for the Cards - this guy was tiny and 'cute' as my wife called him cuz he was like a little kid out there.

VI. There was a lot of holding - WOW everyplay there was 2-3 good holds on the Oline - we got a way with some and so did they but it was crazy. We have to do better on the oline - they owned our offensive line on the run in the first half.

VII. The rumor is out that Tatum will run timid if you blast his azz a few times. I overheard their Dline coach a few times tell them to hit him hard and he'll quit??? I have to say, I agree. Mike Bell did a great job and when I stood up and yelled 'YEAH U OF A' the Arizona crowd got a kick out of it. There was one ASU fan who yelled back 'F-YOU!' I told him we appreciated Koetter but maybe they needed Plummer back - might be in Jakes future eh???

VIII. WE WON !Booya! I couldn't believe how well Jay did today - he's maturing and making some amazing throws. He had his young Elway mistakes today but at least he was making throws downfield. How many of you honestly think that first TD pass wasn't something special! HoLY SHIAT - that thing was right in the bread basket.

IX. During halftime they had 7 contestants come out (younger guys - mostly chubby) and compete for a Toyota Tundra - the guy that had the best TD celebration dance won the truck. One of the guys stripped down to a thong right in front of the crowd and the cameras moved quickly from him to the crowd - the guy won enough votes and got 2nd.

X. Shanny opened up the playbook - I was soooo proud of him today. He was calling some shotgun, bootleg and mix and match all game long. Jay looks good and really confident running the game - this guy is the new cool hand! Although shanny's running game was overly predicable, I was happy to see some creativity in the passing game.

Did you guys see Nails get in the fight? Did they show that on TV??? All I will say is that dude can bring it - he doesn't take shhhh from anyone - you touch his azz and you don't say 'set hut, hut' and he will kick your azz! This guy is too funny!

Last but not least, Isn't it time we start the chant "MVP" everytime Champ Bailey has a pick eerrrrr.....wait, I mean every game when he has a pick - this guy is superman - damn he played well today! So do me a favor and when this guy makes a play for the next 2 weeks, will you guys in the stands please chant 'MVP' - let's get it going for the best defensive player in the league!

GO BRONCOS!!!

Shed some light on the Nalen scrap. I didn't see it on t.v.

I had to watch it again because they didn't show it on TV very well and I had go back use my DVR to see what was going on.

Basically Foster recovers the ball and the play is blown dead but a bunch of Cardinals and Broncos are still being pulled off the pile. Well Nalen is near the pile bending over looking at what's going on. Well Antonio Smith walks up to Nalen and grabs him by both shoulder pads and hurls him onto the ground. Mind you the play has been blown dead for some time now. Nalen didn't like it and walked over, grabbed his arm and obviously said something that obviously wasn't very pleasant.

The back Judge has seen this and is walking over and to stop an incident. Well Smith comes after Nalen and with the ref right in front of him (he was trying to break them up) he swings and punches Nalen in the face. The ref had to throw the flag because he was right in front of him and it was flagrant.

Say what you will, but one thing I love about Nails is that he's nasty and gets guys to loose their cool. That first down is Smith, but Nalen was in his head that game.

Yep, Nalen clearly outsmarted Smith on that one. It netted a 1st down too when it was going to be 4th down and time to punt.

That's my concern with Tatum is that he doesn't fit this offense. The main thing for the RB in this offense is to run between the tackles, so any RB in this offense is going to take hits, so how can Tatum fit if he gives up after taking big hits?

I have to add.... It was aweful sad to see the last three minutes of the game and there was scarcely a Cardinals fan left in the Stadium. Pretty sad to ditch your team when they are down!

There were a few great Cardinals fans but, for the most part, they weren't particularly friendly. We were told to shut up a few times...but, they didn't have much they could do because in our section they Broncos fans outnumbered the Cards fans by about 4 to 1! We were surrounded by Broncos!

BMF had the whole section doint the IN COM PLETE! I tell ya, the Broncos rocked the Cards home! :)

And....Cutler's arm is definitely impressive to watch live. TV does no justice! Great game and it was great to see the kid live for his first ever victory. When he's given us our 5th Superbowl win, I can look back and say that I was at his first ever winning game!!

Go Broncos!

That's awesome. You could hear it loud and clear on TV too. That penalty that extended the drive on the fumble, the Broncos fans go nuts, then the Cards fanned belatedly boo the Bronco fans!!!

I was actually getting ready to go out (fricking wife) just as the game came on. During the first possesion of the game for the Broncos I was brushing my teeth when I heard the crowd go insane on TV. I figured something bad had happened.

Of course Cutler had just thrown a 63 yard, cross field, bootleg bomb.. It sounded like a fricking home game.

We arrived kind of late after the dumb concierge at the resort kept giving me directions down to the ASU stadium. I kept telling her, NOOOOO NOOOO there is a new stadium out west of town and I need directions to it. After finally getting the 'mapquest' directions (which are wrong - look up Cardinals Stadium at it takes you to Maryland and N67th) we drove down to Maryland and N 67th - do you think there was a stadium there? NO! I looked left as I was complaining and whining and then I saw it 5-7 miles out west was the large white domed structure - WE FOUND IT! We got there just in time for the intros so I was really sorry I missed you guys at the tailgate - it would have been a lot of fun to see and meet you guys! Arizona is a beautiful state, much more so than Nevada, but then we have legal poker and legal poker if you know what I mean - but let me qualify that by saying I'm happily married and she's not a former employee-resident of the chicken ranch.

We celebrated our 9th anniversary - FOR HER: we went to the Nutcracker downtown with the Phoenix Symphony (I was proud to see that most of the men were from Bulgaria, Ukraine and such - not many residents of AZ there - good job men!). And then, FOR ME: we watched more men in tights only smacking each other around with a thick pigskin on Sunday. I highly recommend this as a good anniversary product for all you married dudes. Also check out the Royal Palms Resort - this place yields excellent results!!!

During one of Champ's picks, the roar was definitely noticeable on TV. If I was listening on the radio and didn't know where we were playing, I would have sworn we were playing in Denver. Good job, guys...:notworthy:notworthy

I missed the tailgate because of a bum ankle but I had a blast sitting in the upper deck in the Broncos family section. Paul Ernster's brother was a riot! It was easily one of the top 3-5 Broncos games I have attended in person.

I was over at my brothers for the only part of the game I saw, and the Broncos were facing a 3rd and 6 or 8 or something while his girlfriend wrapped presents in front of the TV. Not wanting to be rude, I didnt say anything about her being in the way. I heard the crowd roar, and I thought to myself "aw, man...the Broncos didnt get the 1st down." When she moved, I saw Brandon Marshall laying on the ground with the ball about 10 or so yards downfield having got the first with plenty of room to spare.

We are the second team of most of Arizona it seems. Every time Denver's played there going back to the late 80s the place is majority Bronco fans. We always get the away field advantage playing in the Valley of the Sun.

To all the guys who were there, I gotta say way to represent. That game sounded like a home game and every time they cut to a shot of the crowd there were at least three Broncos fans in the shot. It was awesome and had to have some effect that our players knew we had a ton of fans in someone else's house. You guys rock! :strong:

To add off what STG said:

1) BMF cracks me up! The place rocked. During timeouts, I'd watch the cheerleaders dancing then look over at BMF and see him dancing with his orange pompoms and orange and blue face painted like the Ultimate Warrior! I couldn't get a picture of him in action, so I posted what I had.

2) I'm glad people heard the "IN COM PLETE" chants on TV. I actually have a nice sized bruise on my forearm / hand from pounding the side of the wall during the game. STG is being modest, she was also raising hell along with BroncoCALIJohn, 12th man, and Teddman. (Those were the ones I saw around our section.) The Broncos were well represented - I don't ever recall seeing that many Broncos fans at an away game - just awesome.

3) Cutler's got an arm. We were right there where Walker caught the pass. Absolutely beautiful throw. Looked like something you'd see on NFL Films. I didn't see him get hit, because of my viewpoint, but the pass was unreal. I'm not sure how many other QB's today could have made that throw.

Great to hear you had a great time at the stadium. I wasn't able to make this game on Sunday, however I did make the preseason game. It is a good stadium to watch football in. And luckily, some fans bought some season tickets this year so I could watch the home game against the Broncos!

This is pretty much a big state of Broncos fans. Even in the Sun Devil Stadium, every game against the Broncos was littered with Broncs fans all over the place. It is almost like a second home.

Too bad for the Cards that you see just as much if not more of the opposition's fans, but that should be changing soon as they seem to be headed on the right track.

Couldn't catch the tailgate as I had family we were hanging with in AZ, but loved to see so much Orange and Blue.

That stadium is pretty damn cool.

Oh, I also ate breakfast at Mimi's Cafe in Chandler. Our waitress told us that Leinart always eat there in the mornings before home games. Sure enough he strolled in wearing a full suit and with entourage in tow. He is one tall dude. Good thing our pass rush didn't let his pancakes digest all that well.

You were in 126? I was too! Row 7 right next to that moron Cards fan with the Vanilla Ice Blond hair. He thought that telling me that he was in the slam for 7 1/2 years was supposed to impress me. Later, he was pretty quiet but he told everyone that he would be in the NFL if it wasnt for the drug test Hilarious! Being in the season ticket section (of many of them for years), I had the aisle next to me and still had 12 Broncos fans within high five reach. It was like San Diego.

This is why the tailgate section at the mane is very important. Meeting at the motel was a great way to make sure everyone was on the same page. Planning a thread since last January and we didnt know it would go smoothly with parking, logistics, etc. but went as smooth as you can ask. If you want some free beer and food from the leftovers of this tailgate, hang out with Archie against the 49ers. Believe it or not, there is a ton of booze left to drink.

I was in 136 R34 too had the new Champ Bailey (grey with orange #'s) jersey. I was next to a family from New Mexico (Broncos fans) and a guy that flew in from Canada (also a Broncos fan) - it was crazy!!! Lots of Broncs fans in Section 136. One lady said, "If only the Cardinals fans would do this for their team." - I told her they gotta pay their dues before they win a ring and then it will be just as crazy. Rep for section 136

dayammmn - sounds like fun! really sorry I missed it. Yeah, I will have to admit I am a jackass, but I was just the choreographer for the crowd man, the crowd was insane. My favorite part aside from the IN-COM-PLETE (which was STG's idea) was every time the Broncos would get a first down I would stand on my seat, point to the speakers when the announcer was saying how many yards we got and then I would yell out "For another Broncos..." and the entire sections of 124 and 125 would simultaneously scream FIRST DOWN! You know you're doing something right when the HOME TEAM crowd has to copy your cheers to try and save face! I still have no voice!

And FYI, that cheerleader was totally flirting with me, much to the chagrin of STG. (just kidding honey)
