A nice article on the match-up...

Cutler Looks Past Matchup With Leinart

(AP) DENVER Jay Cutler is aware that fans will compare him and fellow rookie quarterback Matt Leinart when the Denver Broncos play the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, but Cutler isn't interested as he prepares for his third career start.

"I don't really care if they link me up to Matt and see who is better," Cutler said. "I want to go out and perform for my teammates and for this organization."

Both rookies along with Vince Young of Tennessee were the head of the quarterback class of 2006. Young was the third overall pick in the draft. Leinart went 10th and Cutler was the No. 11 selection taken last spring.

"All that doesn't matter to me," Cutler said. "Matt might throw for more yardage than me, but as long as we get the win, I'll be happy."

Cutler has struggled in his two starts. He's completed 53 percent of his passes and has thrown for four touchdowns and two interceptions since taking over when Jake Plummer was benched.

"I'm just getting more consistent, but I think I feel a little impatient," Cutler said. "I'd just like to be more consistent, make
better throws and complete more balls."

Cutler acknowledges he doesn't know his Arizona counterpart very well. That hasn't kept the Broncos rookie quarterback from keeping tabs on Leinart.

"I watch him and keep up with what he does," Cutler said. "He's playing pretty well right now."

Cutler said he didn't talk to Leinart on draft day as the two awaited their selection.

But he did remember rumors that had him being selected by the Cardinals. He said the thought crossed his mind after Tennessee chose Vince Young.

"Yeah, I thought it was a possibility," Cutler said. "They were right in that range where I thought I was going to go and I talked to them quite a bit."

Leinart and Cutler haven't spoken much since the draft. Leinart, when asked Wednesday by teleconference call, offered his own advice to Cutler.

"My advice to Jay is to get his head on right and to play how he's capable of playing," Leinart said.

Leinart has enjoyed moderate success in his nine starts to date. He's thrown for 2,117 yards and 10 TDs and offers to Cutler that he had easier circumstances to deal with.

"I came in when we were struggling and trying to find ourselves," Leinart said. "Jay is in the midst of a playoff hunt and that's tough and involves a lot of pressure."

Leinart you don't know anything about a playoff hunt, and unless you're traded you never will.

Thanks for the veteran advice Matt. I didn't realize Jay had to screw his head back on. Jay went into arguably the consensus SB's favorite's house and pitched a 97 rating in his second start.

Yes, the team is struggling, but the wheels fell of the defense for some obvious reasons.

As Doug Moe would say..."Bunch of stiffs..."

I agree with Cutler. Who cares? Seems like people want to make non existant rivalries just because rookies come out in the same year.

And Leinart is giving advice? Lunacy > common sense

If Cutler throws two TD passes on Sunday, he'll tie a record for throwing at least two TD passes in the first three starts of his career.

Records were made to be broken. I think he'll throw for THREE!

Write it down.

Shanahan's biggest mistake this year was not starting Jay after the bye.

Leinart was too whimpy to attempt the bench press at the combine, while Cutler was throwing it up more times than 1/3 of the O and D line positions.

Is there really a rivalry here????

I think the Cutler / Rivers rivalry will have a lot of excitement for years to come. We might even see something exciting next year if the Raiders take Quinn in the draft. But really, who cares about Arizona?

You could even make a case about Vince Young since he is AFC and we might see him in the playoffs soon, but Leinert? Who cares?

Maybe Paris Hilton had sucked all the energy out of him, so to speak. ROFL!

I just thought of something: How many offensive plays does the rookie Leinart go before he gives Champ's side of the field a shot?

Three is a magic number,
Yes it is, it's a magic number.
Somewhere in the ancient, mystic trinity
You get three as a magic number.

The past and the present and the future.
Faith and Hope and Charity,
The heart and the brain and the body
Give you three as a magic number.

It takes three legs to make a tri-pod
Or to make a table stand.
It takes three wheels to make a ve-hicle
Called a tricycle.

Every triangle has three corners,
Every triangle has three sides,
No more, no less.
You don't have to guess.
When it's three you can see
It's a magic number.

A man and a woman had a little baby,
Yes, they did.
They had three in the family,
And that's a magic number.

3-6-9, 12-15-18, 21-24-27, 30.
3-6-9, 12-15-18, 21-24-27, 30.
Multiply backwards from three times ten:

Three time ten is (30), three times nine is (27),
Three times eight is (24), three times seven is (21),
Three times six is (18), three times five is (15),
Three times four is twelve,
And three times three is nine, and three times two is six,
And three times one is three of course.

Now take the pattern once more:
Three! . . .3-6-9
Twelve! . . .12-15-18
Twenty-one!. . .21-24-27. . .30

Now multiply from 10 backwards:
Three time ten is (30 - Keep going), three times nine is (27),
Three times eight is (24), three times seven is (21),
Three times six is (18), three times five is (15),
Three times four is twelve,
And three times three is nine, and three times two is six,
And three times one...
What is it?!
Three!
Yeah, That's a magic number.

A man and a woman had a little baby.
Yes, they did.
They had three in the family.
That's a magic number.

In all fairness Leinart was probably asked what advice he'd give to Cutler by a reporter. I doubt he just offered it up... And I agree Rivers-Cutler will be a much better rivalry.

Jay goes 2/1 and breaks into the 250 range passing...gets his first W and shuts up the media for a week from the slobbering over VY.

BTW, I'm not a big Skippy fan on Cold Pizza, but he said the second best draft pick was Jay.

I think a big part of why Bayless said that is because he's a Vandy alumnus. I really, really cannot stand that man but I like that he shows Jay some love.

Young/Cutler could be nice as well if both teams are competitive. It has the potential to be a playoff matchup.

Don't question the VY lovefest. It's some kind of cult. They can get real weird if challenged.

Nice prediction.

I'll only add that KC and SD fans will laugh at us for feeling good about the win because it was "just Arizona."
