If you don't like it, then ignore it and move on. Oh and what did my post have to do with Plummer anyway?

the amazing thing is that studies have shown that the kinds of interchanges that fans have are more dramatic than the interchanges teams have.

NFL Radio was trashing Cutler, as well. I'm sorry, but wasn't QB a non-issue today?

Optinions don't really matter at this point. The team doesn't hear what is being said and they are still losing.
I think we just encourage the team to fight for a wildcard spot, then look to next year. Cutler is looking good, it is just a matter of filling in other holes on the team. Next year should look better.
2 or 3 wins would really be a bonus.
NBC, ESPN, CBS - they are all sucking the Chargers knob. I hope the Chargers make it to the Super Bowl and lose. That might finally shut the media up. They were sucking Peyton's knob until a few weeks ago, but they've found another bee-hatch.

Well, on most of the highlights I saw there were generally Chargers making plays.
Overall, Cutler didn't have a terrible day, but he didn't make plays. You guys were in desperation mode starting in the third, and weren't able to put together a drive or run the ball consistently (props on that big run by Bell though, I was at the stadium and EVERYONE thought he scored.).
SD was just able to put more drives together. We never fumbled the ball away on offense, and only punted three times.
Denver punted 4, fumbled away one, and turned it over on downs twice. You're not going to win football games giving the other team 3 additional possessions and giving up TDs in the redzone.

He started to really play well when they started to go to shotgun on 3rd downs. About time. NBC is retarded if they thought he played terrible or it was his fault they lost. Oh yeah I forgot Elway played like a hall of famer his first 2 games.

Cutler was great on about 6 throws, and awful the rest of the day.
Make what you want of it.
He's a rookie. I'm not worried about his future. But, the "he gives us the best chance to win" stuff is just beyond comical at this point. It's offensive to anyone with any shred of intellect.
Shanahan mailed in his season to train his rookie with the outside hope that maybe he'd buck TREMENDOUS odds and play above the usual rookie level.
He's didn't.
The saving grace here might be that our defense is so horrifically bad, it honestly probably didn't matter.

Funny...he completed 17 passes. I guess he stunk on 11 of those though eh?
Cutler's game was a significant step forward from the performance last week, which is really all that's important anyway at this point.

i dont see how they could be negative, he played very well for a rookie. he had the stats of good jake from last year and made some very good throws that jtake couldnt make.
i understand if it was all LT highlights, the guy deserves, it is just too bad that cutler wont get the recognition that he deserves for his game today. oh well.

you just don't understand, shanny just doesnt wanna make it to the playoffs and lose...which is about what he expects the best jake could have done
jay may not get us to the playoffs, but if he does, shanny knows its his best chance @ a SUPER BOWL which is what he is after, not an extra game in january

Did you have lunch with him or just call his cell?
Because, I haven't heard him say anything besides "Jay gives us the best chance to win right now," which we obviously know is garbage.
Shanny threw some **** against the wall to see what would stick. The end result is a couple of losses and an apparent training season for his rookie QB.
I mean, there's upside to that. But, there's no reason to candy-coat things or attempt to put words in his mouth.

Right.
I mean, I don't know what he's going to say. "I'm just taking a shot in the dark, here?"
What he says about what he did... and what he did are clearly two different things. That is, unless you think he's an absolutely horrific judge of talent.

Wow, someone else that actually gets football.
The part I am drilling in on is the "best chance to win". I want to win this year. I want to make the playoffs, even if we get drilled. I don't believe in mailing it in or losing for no reason. Losing is just as contagious as winning. If you send the message to your team that its okay to quit, well they quit -- kinda like our team did yesterday. But at some point your gonna be in a game that matters, whether its this year or 2 years down the line, and you gotta lean on the character of the team to pull you through. If you condoned losing, you likely won't have a team mentally tough enough to step up when it matters.
For the last time, its not about Jay vs Jake. I just believe that Jake gives us a better chance to win now. That matters to me. It's obvious that its not a unanimous opinion.
Like Popps, I also think that Jay has proven the better chance to win theory incorrect. He has limited the offense by virtue of the heavy reliance on shot gun. He is struggling to get in sync with his lineman. That's just a few examples of why a veteran, even an erratic one like Plummer, gave us a better chance to win.
It doesn't matter now and I am just going to let it go, which I am sure you will all appreciate.

I am not sure that awful is the word, but he was not consistent for sure. The offense had five drives of zero or negative yards. Their lone scoring drive in the first half was the result of a 51 yard run by Tatum. On that drive Cutler completed 1 pass that was for 1 yard on 3rd and 3.

Well, we MAY still get there. Jay looked like he might be coming out of his shell a bit. To me, that's even more proof that this move may have been better made a week or so earlier.... OR, not until we were eliminated.
But, this is hindsight, stuff.
As for the "best chance to win right now" nonsense, again... Shanahan is just running that up the flagpole. He's got to say something to go with a move like this, and he can't just say, "well, I'm taking a stab in the dark here because Jake's struggling and I'm getting pressure to play Jay."
I went to the game yesterday and was grilled by people in conversations... "why did they take Plummer out when you were 7-4," and I'd tell them, "Shanahan says he gave us the best chance to win now." Of course, people laughed and said, "how did that work out for you."
Honestly, besides a few obsessed types on this board, I find most people I speak with about the situation to be fairly confused by the timing of the move. But, you know how it is... if Shanahan's gamble would have worked, everyone would be praising him.
The situation has defined itself, now. That's the one bit of good news. Most of us can get on with being fans. You'll still have a set around here trying to use Cutler as a way to divide the forum, but there's always going to be silliness around this place.
The bottom line is, Shanahan made the move... and it didn't pay any immediate dividends. As fans, we now just look towards the future dividends and try to see the sliver lining. I DO think the kid is really going to excel in our system.

People are so nervous and unsettled, panicky really. I can understand why with all the early expectations with this team. I'm more worried about the D than the O right now. Of course the O can help with fewer 3 and outs. The D really needs more endurance among other things and I don't see that happening before the season's end. Really there are alot of good things about this team. I would just like to see them play well the last three games. 10-6

I would add to this that the circumstance surrounding it was a little bit questionable as well. Jake started the season as our #1 QB, no questions asked. But by the end of the Indy game there were already media reports that he was in hot water -- not even half the season.
You suggest that Cutler should have played sooner, and I agree. Only I think it should have been much sooner, hell maybe even by week 3 or 4. If you were gonna make the move anyway, make it when there is some time left. The schedule is finally getting easier and just maybe Jay would have enough experience and adjustments to allows us to make a run. Instead we are all in shock right now. If you wanna give the kid a chance to gain some experience, let him experience playoff football.

It bothers me to no end that I am not being somehow linked to not liking Cutler or disagreeing with Shanahan. I am pleased with Cutler, but I am not ready to start jumping on this "he's our new John Elway" mentality. It took John Elway several years to become a great QB and I don't want to just say to hell with the next 2 or 3 seasons based on this Super Bowl edict of Shanahan's. I don't even think Shanahan believes that is okay to lose, even in the near term. It's just people's way of making themselves feel okay about running a rookie QB out in front of a 7 - 4 team.

The encouraging thing is our closing schedule. We should beat Arizona and San Francisco. The key will be the sandwhich game against Cincy in Denver. If Cutler can get in some kind of groove and we can pull that one out, we're probably in. And if we get in, we'll likely face an opponent who we will have already beaten this season: Baltimore or New England. Neither team would frighten me. This team has a lot of problems, but I'm not packing it in yet. The rest of the schedule is very manageable.
