ON A BRIGHTER NOTE since things haven't been to rosy for us lately.
What do you think our chances would have been to 3-peat had we not tripped over our own feet against the JAGS in the divisional playoffs in 96 ? I have thought of this often and I think we would have rolled the PATSIES (as usual)
and run the ball down GB's throat just like SB32 ?
What do you think ?

I think this is a pretty good question, and I have pondered it over the years.
There are two schools of thought. The first is that we were, by far, the best team in the AFC that year, and the Patriots would have taken a beating here in the AFC Championship. If I am not mistaken, at that point we still had the long winning streak against them. So we end up in the Super Bowl against a pretty good Packer team - I think that would have been a 50-50 proposition.
The other side is that the experience of losing to Jacksonville made us more hungry the following year - especially at playoff time. The team got serious, and realized that you had to show up for every game. Would that have happened if we hadn't lost to Jacksonville? Or, how about this? Does John Elway come back in '98 if he's just won two Lombardi Trophies?
Honestly, I tend to think we wouldn't have three-peated. I don't know if it would have gotten messed up at the beginning, in the '97 Super Bowl, or at the end in '99. I just think something would have kept us from doing it.
It's fun to think about, though. That was still the darkest day in my Bronco fandom.

Honorable mention goes to Reeves blowing a 24-0 lead at home against Shanahan and the Raiders on Monday night right in front of my eyes.
Brunell had a fluke long run late in that playoff game. The Broncos looked like a bunch of clowns running into themselves and arm tackling in that game late.

I honestly doubt it. Like Dom said, I think that loss is what gave us the drive for our Back to back titles. Also I believe too that Elway would have hung it up after the 2nd one anyways.

We dominated the Jags...some fluke plays and a couple odd calls doomed us late...doesn't matter after a decade anyway. I think we could of won three. It was a fluke loss.
All they needed to do was tackle Burlein and we acted like the 11 stooges out there.

I think the Jacksonville loss helped us...you could just see the hunger in Elway's and the teams eyes...they weren't going to be denied the next season. They weren't just pissed...they were out for blood...

Like everyone said the Jax lose was the driving force in back to back wins. Plus, after the second win folks get lazy and think that it will be easy to get back there, it hard for the players to stay hunger.

I think it's time to stop living in the Elway era. We're starting to sound like Raider and Bolt fans talking about the good ole days. Were there good ole days for the Bolts?
Let's be in the present and look to the future.

Sure we were the best on paper, but 3 x in a row is tough, even for the Mighty Broncos and Elway at the helm.

If Ifs and Buts were Candy and nuts, we would all have a hell of a christmas.

What's wrong with discussing the past? ???

Here's another question. Would you rather have '96 and the 3-peat, or go undefeated 19-0 in '98? For me it would be a 3-peat.
That Jagoff loss will always be the most painful non-Super Bowl loss ever. Even more painful than last year.
