It's been an up and down season but so far what's been great/awful?

Dispointments:

3: Mike Bell. There was a lot of hype around this kid and he had every opportunity to shine after Bell went down. But he never got going, even got benched (when was the last time Shanahan benched a RB? ). His best game was against Indy but then again everyone and their Grandmother runs hard on the Indy D.

2. Plummer. I was expecting big things from this guy considering the season he had last year. It looked like he was finally getting it but he bombed out and played like a nervous rookie fearing for his job.

1. George Foster. He comes first in the sh*tlist because he has all the talent/size/ability in the world but actually regressed. Even when he had a chance to win his job back with Meadows hurt, he looked sluggish and lethargic. The one thing I cannot stand is when players come off lazy, especially when they have the talent to excel. I can't remember who the DE was (Freeney) but Pears had been playing him well and they moved the same DE to Foster's side and he promptly gave up the sack!

Surprises:

3. Walker. This guy saved our bacon loads of times. I thought he might have a down year because of his injuries but he's looked great. Defenses can't stop him, but our QBs sure can.

2. Red zone defense.

1. Eric Pears. He's the antithesis of Foster. A guy who had never taken a snap before, was an undrafted FA, and has far less natural talent, speed/strength than Foster yet is holding down the 2nd most important spot in the offense at LT. I can't tell you how excited I am with his play. Give him another offseason of strength conditioning and I'm sure he will only improve.

The D's ability to close out games and horrible special teams play have been my biggest disappointment. The D looks like a world beater for a 1/2 then gets worked. The Special teams look more like Special Ed. There's a bunch of idiots running around, holding, missing tackles. Just ridiculous. Tight end play is in there as well as DWill.

Surprises-
Marshall taking it to the house and becoming decent. Engleberger's back side pursuit. Tatum's inside running. Not much else to be wowed by.

Dissapointments

Jake-I too had high expectations of him coming into this season, and I really thought he would have another great season. Who saw this type of season coming from him? Maybe the pressure of a first round pick did get to him. but I never though he would fall so far like this year.

George Foster-WTF. The guy looks like he could take any dlineman in the league out of the game, but instead he gets pushed around by everybody. It's quite sad. I can't wait untill Meadows comes back.

Paul Ernster-Yeah, he was pretty good when Todd was suspended, but after we got rid of saurbrun, he has played like ****.

Surprises

Adam Meadows-such an upgrade from foster. Like I said earlier, I can't wait till he's back healthy and starting.

Walker-well I felt like he was going to have a good year with us, but not like this. He is a beast and should be in the pro bowl talk again as soon as Cutler gets more comfortable.

Tatum Bell-He has really showed alot of improvement this year and more power and better vision. I loved the play were he gave ray lewis a back ride! He just needs to stay healty. that's what's disapointing about him.

My biggest problem is with Lynch missing on so many tackles this year, he forgot how to wrap up

The biggest surprise is we've played 12 games and we haven't had an easy one yet.

The defense was dominant early, but we were still in life or death struggles every week. Not sure what impact that will have on the team next year, but I hope its a positive one.

Disappointments

Lack of pass rush (again)

Mike's play calling (too conservative with leads, leaving teams in games).

Surprises

Erik Pears -- can't wait for him to take over at right tackle next year, has filled in admirably

Elvis Dumerville -- has been a bright spot on the d-line

Disappointments - Jake, play calling, Sheffler

Surprises - Dumerville
Rod's huge drop in productivity. I mean I thought with Walker being doubled, Rod would have some big games.

Disappointments - Offensive strategy, making Jake and Jay stay in the pocket when it is obvious that the line is not big enough to block straight up for a drop back quarterback. Move the damn pocket!!!! There strenghth is agility, not straight up power blocking. The pass rush, the pass rush, and the pass rush. It plain in simple sucks. The running game in the fourth quarter. This used to be Denver trademark. Run it down there throats even when the defense knew it was coming. Special Teams all game!

Surprises - Walker, Dumerville (should get weight on him and move to DT). He is to small on the outside, but would be a force inside with Warren. Still need a very good pass rusher on the outside.

This also sums up the year in my book.

Im not sure if Jake doesnt belong in both the disappointment and surprise category.

He has been a dissappointment and Im sure as hell surprised at his play this year.

Biggest disappointment: The schedule. I thought Bowlen was supposed to have a little juice in the league office?

Second biggest disappointment: Foster. Looks like he is now a fully fledged bench turd.

Suprise: That Kircus and Sheffler didn't get more chances after the way they looked in the preseason.

Second surprise: We still don't have a pass rush, and our STs still suck. You'd think by now, somebody would have fixed these.
