31-27 Denver. Wild west shootout. LT leaves injured in the third quarter, Rivers sprains his thumb. Merriman sees a picture of a Bronco on the sideline wall and runs at it, knocking himself even more cross-eyed. Olshansky cries to his momma after Nalen punches him in the dick at the bottom of the pile.
Walker 1 TD
Scheffler 1 TD
Bell 1 TD
Johnson 1 TD
Elam 1 strained hamstring FG.

Chargers 55, Broncos 0. Why should anyone even try in this game? I mean, its obvious that the Chargers are a super team that never loses, or gets scored on. Or throws an incompletion. Or has yards gained on it. Or has to come back against the Raiders.

I'm in that boat. Been a long time since I felt we didn't have a fair shake to win a game. I even had hopes during those road playoff games in Indy. We had alot of holes weeks ago and I think even a bigger one with a rook in at QB.
Chargers 31 Broncos 17
Whats interesting to me about this thread is not who has made predictions but those that have opted not to chime in thus far. The arguement all season long was that Cutler couldn't do any worse than Jake. We will see. I don't see a Cutler led offense giving us 20 points. I hope I'm wrong.

Your offense managed 20 last time at home, with our defense horribly banged up. No way they manage more than 13 with Cutlet behind center and Castillo and Merriman back to inflict pain.
The Bolts offense will keep rolling and the defense will get a turnover deep in Broncos' territory to add to the onslaught.

Oakland has pretty good defense and Rivers had his worst day of the season. 1/2 of SD's starting D was on the bench.
Oakland played a 3-3-5 and gave Rivers a look he'd never seen. On several plays, Oaklands LB's were lined up in a row at the middle of the field and then broke to their spots as the ball was snapped. Rivers effectiveness at reading the D was negated.
Fortunately, Rivers is clutch in the 4th quarter. - and the RAIDERS SUCK - that much I'm sure we agree on.

We manage to revive the D and hold LT to reasonable gains, but Rivers opens up the pass effectively, while only getting intercepted once by Champ. Our running game is effective, and Cutler shows more promise, but not quite enough to get it done against a hot division rival at thier house. 27-24 Chargers. As a side note everyone who bets and doesn't take the Broncos at +7.5 gets rounded up and taken to a mental institution.

If you don't have the sack to post the score on this thread I'd say that leaves you out of the post game "I told you so Plummer was the problem or I told you so that Cutler is the answer" threads.
As I said the other day on this thread. I'm a bit suprised that some of our most outspoken Plummer haters/Cutler lovers have avoided this thread.

Need to change the MOJO here! This game means one hell of alot more to the Broncos than it does the Chargers. Realistically the Chargers in a avalanche.
Upset of the week. Broncos - 21 ,Sandy eggo Steroid Abusin' Cheaters - 20.
GO BRONCOS. Time to give the Cheaters a royal A$$ kickin'
I think Cutler logs his first comeback victory this week. 24-20 Denver.
Then again, it comes down to two people this week. If Cutler plays well and takes advantage of a bad secondary or if Al Wilson suits up. If one or the other doesn't happen, we will probably drop this game.

Hmm, normally I dont make score predictions as, generally they just make you look like a dumbass, but...on request from a poster I will.
1st Quarter: We start out rough, as usual. Mostly we get to feel out what kind of defense they are going to be playing and, our defense starts out great. We give up some yards, but manage to only give up a field goal while scoring a late quarter TD. Broncos 7, Chargeless 3.
2nd Quarter: After just getting the back at the end of the first quarter, the Chargers manage to get a good drive going and get inside the red zone. Our defense gives a valiant effort, but LT is too much that close, they score a TD. Our next possession results in a medium range FG attempt as Cutler screws the pooch on third and medium just outside the red zone. Both defenses play good football the rest of the half leaving the score tied at 10 going into halftime.
3rd Quarter: Neither team scores on its opening drive but SD is the first to strike in this quarter with a long FG by Kaeding. Denver answers back with a good drive led by Tatum - not Cutler - for a TD. SD marches right back down the field and scores another FG. End of quarter. Denver 17, SD 16.
4th Quarter-Crunch Time: Predictably our defense collapses in this quarter. Giving up two straight TD drives to SD and forcing only one punt that pins us inside our own ten. We dont fare quite as good, matching their first TD with one of our own, but settling for a FG after stalling in our red zone. We do have last crack at scoring, down by a FG but, Cutler being a rookie, makes a stupid rookie mistake that costs us the game.
Final Score: SD 30, Broncos 27.
Aftermath: Taco starts a thread absolving Cutler of the blame. Taco starts another thread absolving Coyer and the defense of any blame.

I see this game playing out in 2 possible ways
1 - A very good SD team on a roll with Merriman back plays well and crushes the Broncos, and we haven't been beaten badly by SD in the Shanahan era, except possibly the 2001 game in SoCal. Say 38-17.
2 - Denver comes out angry and focused, and plays well against the Bolts, like happens most of the time. We take an early lead and keep LT and Rivers in check, leading at halftime by 7 or more. Then in the second half, SD gets it together and our defense reverts to form, that is they start collapsing and allow scores on almost every possession. Cutler plays better in the good weather as we keep putting up scores, and it looks like we may pull it out late in the 4th. But then the inevitable luck, a tipped ball INT or Elam misses a 35 yard FG or a miracle diving pick or fumble recovery where there are 4 Broncos and 1 Charger on the pile but the charger ends up with the ball. We lose, and it will suck more than being down 14 points all game long. Say 31-28.
It would be nice for once for a Bronco team to get a late season win when the chips are down and the other team is favored and looks better, since there's been about 15 losses late in the year this decade when the opposite situation applied.
Please, please, let Cutler play amazingly, let the D rise up to the challenge in the second half, let some lucky bounces go our way for once.

As far as a prediction, if I were a betting sort, I'd take the Broncos and the 7.5 points, because I really believe this game will be decided by 7 or less. Shortly after having won in "our" house... and facing a rookie... the Bolts may very well be overconfident and "look past" this game. I'll say Broncos 20, Bolts 17.

Chargers notes
The situation at wide receiver is growing dire. Keenan McCardell (calf) didn't work Friday and is expected to sit Sunday. Malcom Floyd is out with a sprained ankle. Eric Parker left practice prematurely with a tender knee; it's not considered serious. But backup CB Cletis Gordon was running routes after practice, just in case. Gordon said he played some wide receiver at Jackson State. "I'm not sure what they'll need me to do, but I will be ready,'' he said. ... RB Michael Turner (hamstring) practiced, but he's no lock to play against Denver. Even if in uniform, Antonio Cromartie would likely return kicks. ... ILB Randall Godfrey (calf) didn't work and will probably be replaced by Stephen Cooper on Sunday. ... RB LaDainian Tomlinson is the FedEx ground player of the week for the sixth time this season and a record 13th time overall.
The Chargers passing game looks to be hurting with several WRs either out or hurt. I expect Champ to be locked up with Gates on obvious passing downs since our big nickel package is down and out and DWil/Fox will be able to contain the rest of the Chargers WRs.
That leaves LT vs our front 7. I have no doubt that the Chargers will put up at least 17 points given LT/Gates but since their WRs are hurting we can use more resources to stop LT.
2ndly, Adam Meadows has to play. I don't trust Foster in pass protection at all. I think our 2nd level blockers will have to have a good game blocking. The TEs/RB/FBs will have to man up and help out in passing downs. Whoever is back there helping out in pass protection/blitz pickups HAVE to account for Philips/Merriman. This is where the Charger's OLBs excel. They have to speed/strength to trouble OLs but they are dominant when getting through TEs/RBs to get through the QB.
I don't like Bell going up against Merriman or Philips even though his blocking has improved and Alexander wasn't an excellent blocking TE before his ankle injury. Glad Chad Mustard looks to be back because he'll help.
I'd even try and go with a 6 man OL like we've done in the past with an extra guard thrown in there especially if Foster is playing. It'll allow our RBs to flare out for short passes and with Cutler doing well on checking down when he did get time in the pocket, it's something we should try to incorporate early to slow down their pass rush. The rest is up to Javon Walker.
Too bad Schef has been a dud in blocking otherwise I would have liked to see him in the game with the Cutler.

I'm gonna jump in this with my guess. I think the run D holds up much better than last time and keeps LT to decent stats but not able to carry the team himself. Foxy helps with pass coverage and we irk out the win 24-13ish. It'll all be about folks being on top of their game

We are really thin at WR. Don't underestimate the importance of chemistry and timing between a QB and his WRs.
With all these injuries, it's going to be a toss up, unless LT runs wild, however I expect Shanahan to focus on him once again and try to take him out of the game, leaving only Gates as the only other threat...

I predict the broncos play the chargers a good close game today but come up a bit short (let's say 24-20 loss). I think Cutler will do better in the warm weather and with a game's experience under his belt.

I'll be happy if the team doesn't fall apart. It looks like they're ready to. So we'll see.
