View Full Version : Jake's trade value rising?

Now that Cutler has come in a played a game and everyone in the whole world has seen that we have a lot more problems than just the QB position, has Jake Plummer’s trade value risen?
Say the team continues to struggle and we go 2-2 over the last 4 games. Can we then trade Plummer to Minnesota (for example) for a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick? I wonder if Shanahan/Sundquist have thought about this possibility. Sure we are getting the kid ready for next year, and that is the primary goal, but then we could also have the secondary effect of getting good value for a player that is most likely not going to be here next year.
I do realize that this probably did NOT factor in the decision to start Cutler/sit Plummer, but it could be a side benefit of that. Thoughts?

The only way Jake's draft value will rise is if Joe Gibbs/Dan Snyder decide they want him. And I seriously doubt that even they would give us more than two 1sts.

So no one thinks that Minnesota (who was willing to give Atlanta a 1st rounder for unproven backup Schaub) would give us a 3rd for Plummer? Detroit (long shot with MM as OC)? Cleveland? Chicago? Green Bay? *cough*Houston*cough? Tampa?
I think Chicago would be interested in Jake.

Ironic if Griese replaces Grossman in the starting lineup this year and then Chicago brings in Jake to take his job again.

I don't think anybody will show trade interest in Jake for a few reasons:
1) we have to cut him if he doesn't restructure.
and
2) There are free agents with better upside on the market than Jake Plummer (Matt Schaub, Chris Simms, Damon Huard will top the list of players available... Jake fits in that group, but not at the top end of it, and who is going to give up a draft pick for Plummer when you can get Huard, Simms, or Schaub straight up? )
Personally, I hope we can talk Jake into hanging around as a back-up.

He has no trade value. Trading him has a huge direct cap hit while cutting him is much smaller.

Why'd we sign him to such a huge deal last Jan!!! I know why, but just complaining about it.

I really do hope Jake restructures and stays with the Broncos. It would be the best thing for the team, we would have a veteran backup who knows the system. But from Jake's perspective, he might want to go to another team if he has a chance of being the starter.
I can't see KC letting Huard get away form them and Simms will go somewhere, but Tampa is then left with a need there.

I'm no capologist, so I don't know if a 'restructure and trade' would work versus a June 1 cut (or if it doesn't matter and the cap hit would be the same either way since the SB money is accelerated).

I am not sure either actually. All I know is that the deal he signed was front loaded big time. He has no more guranteed money now. So I would assume the bonuses are what will give the hit. I have no clue how they do that cap math though.

Gruden claims to be committed to developing Gradkowski, though after this last game, that committment appears to be wavering. I have a feeling that the position will be up for competition next year, so there's a possibility there for Jake, but only if they let Simms walk.

If we can find some team executive with that distorted a perception of reality, we'll be in like Flynn.

Shanahan isn't going to do a June 1st cut, and screw Jake like that. He'll be gone by March if he's gone at all.

I am assuming he would cut him in March and take the June 1st exemption.

Where's the people who were saying we'd get 2nd, 3rd, hell even a 5th round pick for Plummer? The guy is garbage and nobody is interested. He's nothing but cut bate. I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't make a roster next season if he plans on holding out for a starting QB job.

I can't see Shanny keeping a failed starting QB as a reminder of his (shanny's) own failure to mold him into a decent QB. I think he gets Cut & they try to bring back Gus.

What's Detroit looking to do this offseason?

All I know is this: I read on ESPN.com or SI.com that people were getting tired of David Carr in Houston. Perhaps it's just fodder (a la "Cutler is going to start this week!" about 8 weeks ago) but I'm telling you guys, Denver South is fully in effect.

Matt Millen saw Jake play WR for one play against Kansas City last year and thinks he's got real potential.

Trade value? GMs around the league just saw a rookie take over for a 10 year vet and in his first start the offensive production was above what the 10 year vet averaged. Trade value for 10 year vet=12th rounder.
Make no mention of the fact that it will cost us $8M against the cap if we trade him.

This can't happen until the post-season. Why are we talking about this now? Thought we were watching our favorite team play football.

Jake could absolutely play behind a good offensive line, instead of the makeshift line we have. The reason he doesn't have trade value is his age and the cap hit we would take. The best thing we could do for the guy is to cut him and let him sign on to another team.

I think that Shanny will do that for him.

Yes, it will never come out on playstation or Nintendo. The only way is if MSFT decides to drop the Xbox...which isn't happening anytime soon.

I think Schaub is a restricted FA, Taco. Atlanta will probaly want picks for him. They will regret dropping him in favor of Ron Mexico.
Mortenson or somebody reported the other day that Tampa was trying to extend Simms (he may even be restricted like Schaub, but I'm not certain). I have no idea why; he's looked like the same physically-gifted idiot he was at Texas. Nevertheless, he may not make it to the open market.

Simms accepted a contract extension in Tampa, however, there has been serious talk here in Central Florida about the Bucs acquiring Jake Plummer via trade.
I would like to see Jake stay in Denver, but he probably won't want to re-structure with other teams willing to make him the starter. Plus, I think Minnesota would be a good option for Jake.
