View Full Version : Mort on the QB situation

Says Cutler will be the starter next Sunday and Shanny will stick with him the rest of the season. Shanny is tired of Jake's inconsistencies and limitations.
Just on NFL Countdown.

I think a change is good also in that Shanahan won't have this excuse anymore. O-line and the coaching there(Dennison), the RB situation(no one stepping up and no true #1 back) gone through how many WR's the last few years just to find a legit #3 WR, the TE practically nonexistent in the passing game, and the playcalling as well. None of it can be said "it's because of Plummer" anymore. These same weak points will exist no matter who is at QB and maybe this is what Shanahan needs to see for himself and maybe make other changes that many of us think need changing too.

Actually yes. I happen to respect his takes... and he is much better than you all give him credit for. He called this months ago when most of you thought it was impossible.
By they way the post confirmed it already today.

The other part of the Mort report was that Plummer basically told Shanahan he was tired of Shanahan critiquing him when he came back to the sideline, and to stop it.

That certainly lends support to those that believe Plummer wanted out of Denver.

It's funny how many people think that there are too many holes on this team to fix and make a playoff run this year. If Cutler can convert and keep 2-3 more drives going per game you'll see our points score rise, our points against decrease, field position will be better. TOP will be better. Which will bolster our RB's #'s. I know our defense has been struggling, but I think they're wore out. What they need now is a rest... in game rest! I think the biggest key for Cutler... Convert 2-3 more 3rd downs per game than Plummer and we won't lose again this year! GUARANTEED!

WOW!!!
If you knew your boss didn't like your performance and told you about it everyday, I think eventually you would snap too...especially if you knew you were history in a couple of months.
Think about it, what is he going to do to Plummer, fire him for his comments?

That what killing me. The loss to Indy, SD and KC if Denver had made one to two plays on 3rd down in the game, Denver could be 10 and 1. Both the Indy and SD had to settle for FGs when Denver couldn't convert, and in KC DWill INT was a momention changer and if the offense hadn't gone 3 and out, I expect the Denver would won that game.

Actually I believe a couple first downs on offense are as critical as the two times the defense had penalties on third down when they had them stopped......both drives KC scored on.

Absolutely keeping drives alive, not neccessarily even scoring, but keeping drives alive could have netted the Broncos a couple more wins. You get the D more rest, You better your chances of having better field position for your defense, the clock runs...
I hope Jay C is more productive on 3rd down.

Yeah well one more mistake and those games might not have been competitive. Did anyone else see the INT Cutler threw in the preaseaon where the DB baited him and went house? Those kinds of mistakes could kill your chances to win.
I really don't think this team will come out wingn' it just because the savior is under center. They may actually become more conservative.

Yep 3rd downs absolutley killed us and it was glaring problem in the last game most noteably after the darrent INT.

How can Plummer bitch about criticism when he deserves it. If he was playing well then you can bitch about criticism. Will Plummer now be a malcontent and poison the locker room?

I agree. A couple more extended drives per a game will make a big difference. I don't know if the statistics exist, but Denver must be a league leader in 3 and outs. Frankly, it is starting to remind me of Greasy.

Plummer just cracked. The pressure finally got to him.
He won't be a problem in the locker room. He has too much at stake. If he were to be a problem then he could have a hard time finding a situation where he could at least to compete to be the starter next year.

Also, what was Shanny supposed to do -- not critique him and try and correct those bone-headed plays?
As much as I like Jake, the one thing he is not is self-assessing. A little tougher self-criticism might be a good thing for Plummmer.

This is one of those situations where we could have had a self-fulfilling rumor. Personally, I think the odds where high that Cutler was going to start, anyway. But, again... had that rumor not broke and Jake plays O.K. and or we win, who knows. But, that Schefter report created such a circus, it was clearly a distraction to the team. Now, it's beyond a distraction. It's all anyone talks about. So, Shanahan might have had his hand forced, a little by that report... something I'm sure he didn't appreciate.
Again, my take on it is that the report probably had truth to it. But, it'll be interesting to watch this play out over the years when all the details do finally come out... where the "leak" came from, if it was real, etc.

Yeah, then they showed the clip of another 'discussion' (which I warned about) being on the sidelines.
HA! Things have come full circle since the 2003 lovefest. Hope we aren't reading these same threads in 2009. And I no longer trust Shanahan. And any way you slice it, Shanahan loses face with the team, letting these chicken**** rumors go for fact. Face the guy like a man and bench him, and stop all the crappy drama.

Ahh, I'm not into a post-mortem on "the leak(s)". I'm not into a post-mortem for Jake either. I think the local papers held their water until they had something they could report without the potential of egg on their face. Klis is the beat writer, not a columnist. Jay's the starter for the remainder of the season.

Well, Jake better wake up then....cause part of being coached, is being critiqued.
I'm starting to actually dislike Jake.......and again, he pointed out he was looking forward to his 2-3 "days off"......man, guys like Manning don't take days off....always studying film, throwing passes to perfect said pass.
The guy may not care what is written about him.....but I'm starting to believe that his preparation is not what it should be.....

After the ensuing kickoff he also led the team right back down the field for a touchdown.
I agree that the Rat probably won't have the offense come out flinging the ball all over the place, but I think Cutler will get plenty of opportunities to make plays. They need to make opposing defenses respect their passing game. Baited or not...it was something that apparently Plummer couldn't do.

I hope to hell Meadows is fit enough to play because we all witnessed how bad Foster was when he came in for him last week. A debut with one scrub OT is bad enough but if there's 2 out there Jay will be under a lot more pressure than just the lights of Sunday Night football.

Plummer has struggled all season despite leading the Broncos to a 7-4 record. Denver ranks 26th in the NFL with 171.5 pass yards per game and is tied for 21st in the league with 17.7 points per game. Plummer's passer rating of 70.5 is 29th in the league, ahead of only Bruce Gradkowski (70.1), Drew Bledsoe (69.2), Matt Leinart (68.1), Vince Young (56.1), and Andrew Walter (55.0)
