View Full Version : Reason # 10341 to hate Michael Irvin...

My least favorite player of all time is spouting out more garbage. Man I hate this F-ing guy.

Talking to ESPN Radio's Dan Patrick, Michael Irvin said that Tony Romo's stellar play might be attributable, not to talent and hard work, but to black heritage. Irvin suggested there might have been "some brother down in that line somewhere." Since Romo is almost as white as I am, it is possible that Irvin was joking. But Patrick apparently didn't think so and asked Irvin if black heritage was mandatory for athletic prowess. "That's not the only way, but it's certainly one way," Irvin replied. "If great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandma pulled one of them studs up out of the barn ... `Come on in here for a second,' you know ... " Joke or not, by my count, that's offensive to blacks, whites, grandmothers and humanity in general. And if it was a joke, it's as unfunny as that Michael Richards' tirade. At this point, Irvin and ESPN have been silent on the issue though one hopes that Irvin will issue an apology on Sunday's NFL pre-game show. And let's hope it's not one of those phony "if I offended anyone" apologies. But the networks who hire people like Irvin are the ones who should be apologizing, and not just ESPN.

eh. Much ado about nothing. You guys just want a reason to hate Mike and will twist anything to fit your agenda.

It was obviously a joke. And besides, what did he say that was so bad? "He's got a little brother in him" Give me a break.

People need to loosen up their ties a little bit.

It does kind of harken back to Jimmy the Greek's take on eugenics. Obviously, Irvin's mood was light, but the perception that being black automatically makes you a better athlete is only tolerable in public when advanced by a black person.

This is something you might want to just get used to as part of modern culture in this country. People of color are much more free to give opinions on matters of race than white people. Especially in any forum that generates media coverage.

The usual institutionalized kinds of racism that are designed to screw minorities still exist in the real world, but the American media keeps a tight rein on our celebrities. Absurdly comical, but ultimately very sad.

It's really not hard to hate him. I don't really need another reason to hate him he's given me so many over the years.

It's stupid. Reverse the situation and have a physics professor commenting that a bright student is excelling because of the quarter Jew that is in him. They guy loses his job and tenure right quickly in that situation.

That just sounds like something you could overhear in any living room in America on any given Sunday. Didn't sound hateful in nature and was more silly, than anything.

I mean, it's not really appropriate for the forum, but c'mon, people. Get over it a little bit. Races are different and sometimes that brings out some humorous aspects.

My wife is half-Japanese, which makes my daughter 1/4th Asian. Which, means my son is 1/4th Asian, which means I'm the only white person in the house. Now, if you don't think I have a field day with that, you're crazy!

It's great, any time anyone is mad at me, I just pull the race card. :)

My wife regularly apologizes to our son for not passing on the "math" gene to him.

LOL

See, Ben Mahler has you twisted. All Irvin said was Romo has "some brother down in that line somewhere." Ben Mahler then proceeded to put thoughts in your head that Romo's stellar play has been attributed to black genes, not hard work. When did Mike say that? He didn't. When he was asked whether have black heritage is mandatory for being a great athlete he responded with, "That's not the only way, but it's certainly one way..." He didn't say "yes."

Where are you getting this "professor says a student is bright because he is a quarter jewish" crap from? You may believe that since it is coming out in your posts, but to relate that absurd statement to what Irvin said is illogical.

Besides Jew is not a race. People don't ask "is he white, black, brown, yellow or Jewish?"

Racism everywhere, everybody pissed off.
Black people yelling, ''Racism.''

White people yelling, ''Reverse racism.''

Chinese people yelling, ''Sideways racism!''

And the lndians ain't yelling ****
'cause they dead.

So everybody bitch about
how bad their people got it.

Racism everywhere.
Who's the maddest people? White people.

Not y'all. Y'all all right.

You paid money to see me, we cool.

The feud is over.

No, you watch the TV, watch Minutes.
You see white people pissed off, man.

Man, the white man thinks
he's losing the country.

You watch the news: ''We're losing
everything. We're ****ing losing.

''Affirmative action, and illegal aliens...

''and we're ****ing losing the country.''

Losing? Shut the **** up.
White people ain't losing ****.

lf y'all losing, who's winning?

If a white man made the same comment, he would be immediately fired.

I don't remember George Bennett getting fired after this comment:

Bennett, who held prominent posts in the administrations of former presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush, told a caller to his syndicated radio talk show Wednesday: “If you wanted to reduce crime, you could—if that were your sole purpose—you could abort every black baby in this country and your crime rate would go down.

So where does this so-called double standard take effect? If a man can say kill all black babies and still keep his job, I say the arena to speak your mind is fair to all races.

On one hand, you have take into account the tone of the show and most radio sports shows allow a bit of latitude.

The knuckleheads on the Out Of Bounds radio show are constantly using off color racist jokes, but nobody cares because the basic premise of the show is to be somewhat shocking.

Crappy radio, but only offensive if you tune in and decide you want to be offended.

I think a guy like Irvin says so many ignorant things it would be kind of cruel to call him out on every one anyway.

"That would be an impossibly ridiculous and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down," he said.

"I was putting forward a hypothetical proposition. Put that forward. Examined it. And then said about it that it's morally reprehensible. To recommend abortion of an entire group of people in order to lower your crime rate is morally reprehensible. But this is what happens when you argue that the ends can justify the means," he told CNN.

But Mike said this on a radio show, not on ESPN TV.

Look at Andrew Young (african-american), who had to resign from a lucrative position at Wal-Mart for calling out Jews, Koreans and Arabs for having stores in black communities.

It's a two way street. You say something ****ed up enough in the right corporate environment, you get axed. Say something ****ed up in another arena, and you keep your job. Pretty simple.

Worse than that, Jimmy the Greek was out to dinner with family and friends, and probably working on his third cocktail, when some asshole reporter stuck a microphone in his face and asked him what's the difference between white and black athletes. A much different scenario than going into a prepared radio interview. Anyway, the high school educated Snyder gave his off the cuff opinion and lost his career in 15 seconds.

Greek was fired immediately and branded a racist until the day he died. It was a disgusting spectacle.

There's no reaching out to educate an uninformed person from an ignorant viewpoint. Not good enough, there must be a pound of flesh everytime.

It's funny, because Romo is as white as white can be...he's Italian due to the surname, but a very good and handsome man...(I'm not gay), and has played great. The insinuation Irvin made was obvious. He's not even a dark complection Italian. Whatever.

Wasn't it George Allen, a republican congressman from Virginia, that called an asian-american reporter a "monkey" twice? And no, that did not cost him the race. His constituents could care less about those comments.

Allen was a Repubican Senator, considered a good prospect to run for president
in 2008, and considered a shoe-in to win re-election to the Senate until
he made his macaca remark to a man of Indian descent. That he went
from a shoe-in to losing would seem to indicate to at least some of his
former constituents that he lacked good judgement if nothing else.
