Even with all the mistakes and the bad play, the Broncos were in this game till the end. Arrowhead is a tough place to play. I think that the Broncos can stay in the wild card race for sure.
I believe that Cutler will go in for Seattle and the troops will rally. It will be amazing how much better our receivers are when someone can actually get them the ball in stride.
Someone made a comment a few days ago comparing Jake's performance to Reggie Rivers' column, when Reggie described his realization that he had peaked as an athlete. I think that Jake's peaked. He can't make the reads and the throws. It's time to move on.
Anyway remember that 7-4 can turn into 12-4 with a run...they've done it before. Still wearing the orange colored glasses.

That's what i'm saying, look at the Cowboys for example, Bledsoe was not getting the ball in stride to the WR's and everything looked out of sync. Wait till Cutler comes in and starts throwing darts all over the place, then we'll see the difference, the WR's will look like all pro's just like the Cowboys are looking now. What a difference a hard throwing QB makes.

We are in good shape to go 12-4 or even 11-5, and that will be good enough for sure.
Sure Cutler in may fix some areas, i cant wait to see this team rally, after this cry from the leader ROD, they gotta step up, right???

Everybody take a step back and B-R-E-A-T-H...while you remember than we've played basically 6 really poor quarters of football from a point where we were 7-2 an looking strong to seize the division. We didn't get to 7-2 because this whole team sucks. What's happening now is that this team has finally been slapped with the realization that our offense is simply not going anywhere with Jake. They know it, and you can see it in the confidence on both sides of the ball right now. This defense has been stellar all year...only the Colts and Chargers put up points...and they do against everyone else too. Now is the critical time for Shanny...and let's hope he finally does the right thing and dumps Fake for the kid. Is he the 2nd coming? Probably not...but isn't almost ANYTHING an improvement over what we've seen so far?
We do need to make some other changes...and the next 5 weeks I think we're going to see some of them...but right now the only thing we should be concerned about is seeing Cutler get his shot and Shanny doing whatever it takes to make sure his debut is as smooth as possible. If that's all they accomplish, it will be worth the fall just to see us finally moving in the right direction.

I agree with this thread. I'd be more worried if I was the Chiefs. I mean we probably had our worst game of the season across the board and we were still in it in the fourth in a place we never win. That's pretty cool. considering the injuries we've had to fight through, there is more good on this team than bad. ^5

Of course this team is not all bad... BUT... does anyone hear really believ we are one of the top 3 teams in the AFC. No, we aren't. The defense is good enough, but no where near special. If teams are able to stay balanced and mix up the run and pass this defense is fairly average. The offense is simply dreadful, we all know the QB issues, but the problems with the run game are ugly as well. I don't see a true #1 back on this team, and without tatum no one fears anthing resembling a home run threat. I honestely believe this team could be special in the passing game, if it were not for our O-Line and their inability to pass block.

Too soon to tell. They've been in every game. Blew out NE on the road, D was ferocious the first half. Gut wrenchers to Indy, SD and Chiefs (stupid loss to Rams). If Shanny turns the right screws who knows.
I agree with you that there needs to be some improvement in the running game as well. Nash certainly didn't distinguish himself tonight. Maybe Shanny should stay away from players named Nash.

I just don't see it... We have a fairly pathetic pass rush, and an offensive line that struggles with pass protection. Those two difficiencies are nearly impossible to cover up come playoff time...

great posts victor, footsteps, and kaylore. i feel the same way at this point. i think that this game and seattle are turning points. we obviously didnt play our best today for whatever reason(short week, distractions, fatigue, whatever), our team needs to pull it together, get in a hard week of practice and prep and come out firing on all cylinders at home against SEA.
hey kaylore, if you(or anybody else) goes back to look at the tape, wouldja see how many they stacked in the box and if they camped anybody outside to stop the boot? thanks.

We've given up over 330 yards rushing in the past two games. Our phantom defensive stats are about to become much more realistic. In other words, our stats against the run are going to begin to look like our stats against the pass..... ****ty.

I think its funny that KC's season is just getting started at 7-4 and ours is hopeless. I guess that all those good things we did to get here are out the door. I think the schedule was just brutal to us the past month. These ten days will help alot. BTW, Rod's comment about players wearing wing tips one day and cut the next was priceless.

It was only a matter of time. Injuries have taken a real toll on this defense with Ferguson/Brandon out, situational guys like Lang/Dumervil aren't holding up like some said after so many extended snaps, and Warren isn't the same player with his bad toes.
In reality we had an awesome defense when it was still healthy but now we've got holes all over the place. Too bad really because with a bit more luck on the injury front, on both sides of the ball and we would easily be 9-2.
Hopefully Shanahan and co can provide Coyer some pass rush this offseason to shore up the DL.

At the some we need to ask the question why where there only 14 rush attempt last night????
We need to grind down opponents and 14 rush attempts doesn't get you squat!!!!
That BAD BAD play calling.

That garabage, it lack of patience in the run game that killing us. You're not going to always be succesfully early running the ball, you need to stick with it, and 14 attempts is a joke for running team. This is the same crap that Dinger pulled with the Jets last year.

This discussion is way off!
On a long weekend when most people are listing what they are thankful for, I am thankful that none of the above ranters are coaches or players. The first KC fieldgoal came after a short field caused by an interception. The first KC touchdown drive was kept alive by two questionable officiating moments on third and longs, where the penalty called would not have changed the outcome of the play- hence they were gimmes.
I am not happy that the Snake's psych is so preoccupied that he is unable to read the defense or more than one reciever and then rushes his throws putting them into the ground, behind the reciever, or into the defense - BUT the team normally wins despite him. The rush came very quickly from the off-slant defensive end stopping the cutback, lets hope that most defensive coordinators in the NFL didn't see that. If they did, putting a fullback in to seal the backside will surely signal run defenses to cut off the backside gap. Herman Edwards understands the mechanics of the game, and you don't have to show him things twice.

Except game tape of the first matchup of these two teams earlier this year. He said in the post game interview that the Chiefs got the ball in OT and did nothing with it, when in reality, the Broncos won the toss, got the ball and scored the winning field goal on the opening drive of OT.

That is certainly true. And I know we tell ourselves that its Super Bowl of bust every year. But we gotta continue to take steps forward, so making the playoffs is a good start. We have a shot at beating some teams in the playoffs if the chips fall the right way, but not the Super Bowl.
Missing the playoffs after starting 5 - 1 would be a disaster I don't want to even think about.

I think there's a synergy between the defensive problems and the offensive struggles.
Quite simply, this team is based on an offensive philosophy of ball-control. They aren't getting the job done. You can point the finger at lots of people. Plummer is definitely one of them.
Our struggles on Special Teams aren't helping the situation either.
Result: the defense is on the field an awful lot, and frequently in bad field position. Give any opposing offense enough chances and they will eventually find a way to hurt you.
I suppose you could turn it all around and also say that the bend-but-don't-break philsophy on defense is not doing a whole lot to help the offense. The offense does spend a lot of time on the sidelines and it's hard to get into a rythym that way. Likewise, when your special teams are as bad as ours have been, the offense frequently starts in a hole of some sort.
Turning the focus back to Jake, what I see is the same thing everyone else sees. Teams have learned that if they can contain the bootleg and keep him in the pocket, he's not that much of a threat. He's not accurate enough on a consistent enough basis to pick anyone apart with a short passing game (and his receivers in that regard leave a lot to be desired as well - - no threat at TE, RBs with mediocre hands who, with the exception of Tatum, aren't much of a threat even if they do hold onto the ball, etc.) He's not that great throwing downfield either. He'll overthrow his WRs at least half the time.
All of this allows teams to gear up against the run, and the running game isn't what it used to be either.
I don't expect Cutler to come in and be the great cure-all from day one. Rookies have their own problems, and he'll be no exception. But we may as well get it started, because, as it stands now, this team doesn't look as though it can win a playoff game (without an awful lot of luck) even if it gets there.

Cutler is an unknown, preseason is not solid gold NFL material to base your opinions on. I will admit, he looked good, time will tell.
But he will not fix your problems. The OL is weak, the Browncos DL is flat out sucky. The ST's is horrid, and continually puts your team at a disadvantage.
Honestly, there is more wrong with your team right now than many of you on here want to admit.
Plus team moral is / has to be an all time low, losing at home to SD like you did, weak showing in KC and a QB controversy ?
With Seattle getting Matt and Shaun back, it could turn into a scoring slugfest next week.
I'm just saying, it's not as good as some posters are wanting to believe. Playoffs, yes, I think they are in your view, I do think you will see 2 more loss's this year, err wait, make that 3, add in the 1st round of the playoffs !

Put Cutler in and see what happens, quick release, putting throws where they should be, no tap dancing, using the whole playbook, throwing nice check down screens like he did at Vandy, giving the defense a rest with scoring drives and not putting them in dire straits all game long and just watch how everything will come together. Cowboy fans were saying the same things about their team early on with Bledsoe at the controls, the defense sucks, special teams sucks, TO crying, the whole nine yards, but now ever since Romo took over, the defense is looking crisper and more aggressive and so is the special teams. Romo's quick fire release and knowing where to put the ball has cured so many ill's on the cowboys, now look, they are Super Bowl contenders. Cutler will do the same for us.........THIS SEASON. You just watch.

Plenty of reason to be optimistic... just not so much so that we should turn our backs to the glaring problems outside of the QB position. Hopefully we'll address these to the extent we can this year and in the off-season.
But, this season isn't over, no way. 7-4... and I truly expect the three-game-spark from Cutler. That's about all we need to get into the playoffs, where anything can happen.
