Someone who claims to be a state police officer in Espaņola has become the target of an investigation after leaving disturbing messages on a Web site for Denver Broncos fans called The Orange Mane.
Peter Olson, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety, said department officials do not believe the person is a state police officer, but if he is, "he won't be a police officer for long."
The person who has made the comments goes by the online identity of SteveTensi13. Steve Tensi is a former Broncos quarterback who wore jersey No. 13 and last played in 1970.
"I'll tell you one thing," SteveTensi13 wrote Nov. 8, the day after Election Day. "When I go back to work, the first vehicle I see with a pro-democrat bumper sticker will get a nice visit from the friendly policeman and that friendly policeman just might find some incriminating drugs in said vehicle. I'm not saying, I'm just saying."
Some of the attributes given on the Web site match a particular officer, Olson said, but investigators do not believe that officer would make those comments.
Olson said he did not know whether the officer who matches some of the attributes knows of the investigation, which he expects to be completed today.
When Republicans lost many gubernatorial and congressional seats throughout the nation, SteveTensi13 noted frequently that he supports Republicans.
"Thank God I'm a cop just in case Martial law is called for!" SteveTensi13 wrote in another comment. "It's good to have power over the little people!" Other comments made derogatory statements about illegal Mexican nationals and Hispanics.
SteveTensi13 claims to be a 42-year-old state police officer in Espaņola who is Hispanic, served in the U.S. Air Force and has been a police officer for 18 years, according to posts. His profile says he has posted nearly 1,800 comments on the site since 2003, but only comments dating back to September are available.
In his profile, SteveTensi13 describes himself as a "conservative, born again Christian, gun toting, homophobic, meat eating, 4 X 4 driving all American." He says he is located in Espaņola, "the armpit of the southwest."
The person also stated that he got married in late September, had two tort claims filed against him in late August, isn't very tall, played high-school football, wears glasses and contacts and was stationed in North Dakota while in the Air Force in 1984.
The New Mexican informed state police of the comments Thursday, and SteveTensi13 continued to post comments on the Web site through Monday afternoon, including posts in which he talks about state police work and Tasers.
The site would not allow a reporter to send SteveTensi13 an e-mail message through the site, and the site's webmaster did not return an e-mail seeking a comment and SteveTensi13's e-mail address. Several phone calls made in an attempt to determine SteveTensi13's identity were unsuccessful.
The New Mexican learned of the posts after an anonymous e-mailer, concerned in particular about the comment about planting drugs in a Democrat's car, suggested a reporter investigate the person's identity.
Olson said if the person making the comments is not a police officer, or is a police officer trying to get another officer in trouble, the decision about whether to prosecute that person for impersonating a police officer would be up to the District Attorney's Office.
The department "certainly" has disciplinary recourse, Olson said, and that includes termination.
The site, at www.orangemane.com, contains a variety of forums where Broncos fans can post comments. It bills itself as the "online tailgate party that never ends." Most of the forums are about the Broncos and football, but there is also a "war, religion and politics thread," and that is where SteveTensi13 makes many of the troubling statements.
In regard to police work, SteveTensi13 wrote that he once arrested a man for shooting at a family of Mexican nationals, has made more than 200 drunken-driving arrests, retrieved thousands of dollars of stolen property and investigated several child molestation cases.
SteveTensi13 wrote Friday that in the two years that he has had a Taser, he has used the prongs that shoot out from the gun twice. "I use the 'dry stun' method more often," he continued. "Which means you take off the cartridge and ram the Taser into someone's gut and pull the trigger."
Steve Tuttle, vice president of communications for Taser International, said SteveTensi13 is correct that a Taser can be used with or without the prongs, but when it is used without the prongs, it is properly called the "drive stun" method. People frequently mispronounce the method and call it the "dry stun" method, he said.
To use the drive stun method, it is necessary to push the gun firmly into a person's skin and pull the trigger, Tuttle said.
SteveTensi13 also uses 10 codes, the codes emergency personnel use when speaking on radios. For example, at one point SteveTensi13 says he is leaving a forum for the night by saying he is going "10-7," the 10 code police use when they go out of service.
In another instance, SteveTensi13 says he would deal with a combative person by using a Taser, cuffing him or her up and being "10-98," the 10 code for having a call completed and being available for another.
On Friday, SteveTensi13 told another person on the site that he should ride with a police officer to see what police work is like. "Police humor can be kinda harsh and gallow and sometimes offensive to civilians," SteveTensi13 wrote. "Unless you're there you wouldn't understand. We joke about suicides, fatal car crashes, shootings, etc., helps to take the edge off."

WEB POSTING EXCERPTS
These messages were posted by SteveTensi13 on The Orange Mane Web site:
“I like to call it ‘ride the lightning!’ 50,000 volts of persuasion. Do as I say or suffer the consequences,” Steve- Tensi13 wrote about Taser stun guns Nov. 16.
“You wanna know what’s sad? I’m Hispanic and even I don’t want Hispanics running this country. Just look at Mexico, central and South America, Spain. All countries ruled by Hispanics and they are all a completemess!! Even here in New Mexico, places that are predominantly Hispanic controlled are corrupt, dirty and behind the times. Places like Los Alamos (white republican) are clean, low crime rate and function smoothly. I hate to say it, but we Hispanics like stabbing each other in the back if we see one of our own being successful,” read a Sept. 22 SteveTensi13 post.
“I do not dis-like Mexicans per se. I dislike ILLEGAL Mexicans. I also dislike illegal Canadians, Hondurans, Cubans, Nicaraguans and Martians. However, as it stands llegal Mexicans outnumber the other named groups 100 to 1, ergo my wrath!” read a Sept. 22 SteveTensi13 post.
“… I seriously doubt you have EVER hung around an area saturated with illegals. The crime rate jumps 10 fold, property value drops through the floor. If you ever decide to leave your ivory tower take a trip to your local WALMART (I know in your world they are a bigger threat to America than Al Quaida) or try ordering at Furrs cafeteria or Taco Bell, good luck if you don’t speak Spanish. I refuse to point to what I want to eat, get me the … manager and he can fetchmy order!” the Sept. 22 post continues.
“I stopped a young Mexican national this morning, speeding 51/35 mph zone. I asked or his license, insurance and registration. His reply? “No licensia” and he threwhis hands up and smiled a **** eating grin like “What are you going to do about it?” I romptly removed him from his car and towed it away and told Pedro to start walking. Made my day!” read an unconfirmed Aug. 30 SteveTensi13 post sent to The New Mexican by e-mail. Comments made before Sept. 8 are not available on the site.

Well, it appears Tensi will be held accountable for his words, threats, bigotry, etc... if he is even a NM police officer. That's a big if IMO, I can't imagine a state trooper ever spouting the crap that he has.
NORMALLY I WOULD SAY THIS SUCKS, but Steve by claiming to be an officer of the law, a state trooper no less, he opened himself up to this investagation and it is good that the New Mexican followed up on this story. If it turns out that Steve is a cop than he needs to be relieved of duty until an investagation is conducted to see if he does the things he claimed to do in his posts here on the Mane.

Maybe I'm naive, but I read every one of those posts, and I thought he was just Bull-S'ing. I never thought he meant any of it literally, and I'll bet that they don't find any such cases.
I hope that the spirit of that post was not only intended for Steve "I cant get my size 12s outta my mouth" Tensi, but whoever the snitch is. Of course, the snitch doesnt even have to be one of us, as this forum is open to any visitor.
When someone that claims to be an officer of the law and claims to do the things that Steve owned than the person that is responsible enough to ask someone to look into the situation is not a "snitch" but a responsible and good citizen. We don't need cops like steve portrayed himself to be. If he is just running his mouth than he will not have a case against him but if his claims are true than he will be removed from his position of authority and I applaud the person that was concerned enough to to ask someone to look into this. Like I said before I dislike snitches but this case does not qualify.

TJ when a guy claims to be a cop and also claims that he plants drugs on people who's political opinions he disagrees with than that should be looked into. Did you ever read Steve? He was claiming he routinely used his position of authority to do all sorts of outrageous things. The way he portrayed himself he was clearly a bad cop and that is not a petty thing. The whole picture that steve portrayed is quite disconcerting and if Slug sent that email than I applaud him and I'm a guy that scores 10 out of 10 on a Libertarian political test. Not saying steve is guilty of what he claimed but it sure needs to be checked out. If he does do those things how would you like to be one of his victims?
BroncoBuff

I agree, baja .... if it's true. If it's even partially true, he should never wear a badge again, even at the Galleria Mall.
But if they find no such cases, then he was simply blowing off steam. Imo, he was never serious, just conver-sating and expressing his anger and frustration.
And you're right - the term "snitch" NEVER APPLIES to law enforcement, mostly because when you get right down to it - they are 'snitches' for a living, literally.
Who ratted on him?
Steve claimed to use his position of authority to screw around with people for his own agenda and pleasure. Not good and should have been reported.
Let's say someone posts that he likes to have sex with 13 year olds and grabs one off the street from time to time would you complain if he were snitched on. That is different by degree of outrage only both cases are serious crimes.

Barry loves to play the role of victim .. he has got some presicution complex or somthing , dont know for sure , but it is clear Barry doesnt hit on all cylinders
There is a police officer that posts on south stands junkie's board called CAL. He posts tongue in cheek stuff that he does as a cop but it is clear he is not serious and his posts taken collectively one can tell he is a damn good cop. With Steve on the other hand it is hard to tell if he is joking or serious. Personally I think some of the time he is just trying to yank someone's chain but there is enough other instances where the posts he makes are quite troubling as to cause one to have real concerns that this guy might be a rouge cop and that should be checked out. If he is just blowing shiit out his butt than there will be no real harm just a ass chewing but if he really does these things he should be removed from his position of authority.

Did you do the hit on Tensi?
I parodied Tensi's post for a couple reasons. One, to see if he would come back and comment on it one way or the other and two, to put that idea (contacting the press about his threats against citizens as a police officer) on the table.
It's pretty simple to me, if he isn't a state trooper (which I doubt he is), he has nothing to fear. If he is, the entire NM state police hiring and training policies need to be revaluated and Tensi, as a public sevant, needs to be held accountable and responsible for his actions and words, no matter his intent.
And there's proof he's an officer breaking the law? Making personal threats to people over the net is against the law however and it wasn't long ago someone posted a story of two people fighting over things said over the net, so this stuff can get out of hand to say the least. Just found it ironic if he indeed did the reporting of this guy, which he threatened to do(hmm, I see a pattern with this guy) and he posts the kind of junk he does himself.
And in chimes Mary Ramey, who herself, is in the same class as a Tensi.
Here's a "person", not unlike Tensi, who calls people cowards based on their political affiliation. When called to the mat, Mary Ramey exhibits the same trait she accuses 50% of this board of.
Wonder why we have not heard from Steve?
If we don't hear from him pretty soon we may be left to wonder that he is a trooper and is under investigation. We may never know what happened but there is never a problem in looking into police corruption.

wow baja. good posts. pretty muched changed my mind on the whole deal. I do think that Tensi is a cop and was just screwing around when he made those comments. If he actually followed through on all the stuff he said, damn. I just hope this all gets ironed out the right way and Tensi does not get screwed simply for making posts (which I thought of as jokes) on a message board (assuming he didn't do the things he claimed).

It's obvious to me one needs to be careful about what one says on a discussion board on the internet. I'll not be posting in the politics section but at the very minumum from here forward. It's obvious to me, someone forwarded Tensi's comments for their own reasons. And, it's obvious the same could happen to anyone of us given an individual here does not agree with you and your take. Of course, that never happens. See you later, maybe..dman

I don't disagree with you at all... Personally if someone did turn him in i think it's a chicken$hit thing to do. Steve is/was a moron but no one deserves to lose their livelihood based on something they say on a message board.
Something interesting (to me atleast)... If he really is a cop, and this leads to a suspension/termination, how long before this ends up as in the courts debating the extent of freedom of speech.

What if someone posts how much he likes to have sex with very young girls and that they really love him because he is a tender lover. And goes on tho claim how many dozens of these girls he has lured into his car over the years. Would it be chicken shiit to report that poster in the hopes he might be investagated?

As I think about this - assuming that he really is a cop - all you have here is the ravings of a malcontent. Its hearsay - a first year law student could get this crap thrown out court. If there is no act to back up the rantings, there is no crime. He will be made to look a fool amongst the members of his outfit which I think was the intent of the snitch to begin with.
Baja quoted me a while back regarding the need to rat out bad cops. Ya, I can see that. But again - we have witnessed crime zero. I havent seen Tensi (Hell, I dont even know the dudes name) abuse a suspect, plant evidence, or anything. I couldnt pick him out in a line up, couldnt ID his voice on tape, couldnt describe his vehicle But yet, someone took it upon themselves to not only inform his supervisors (which maybe could be defended), but the media. They just sullied the name of the whole NM SP just to blacken one oaf's eye - who again may or may not actually be a member of the NM SP. Life isnt like Hollywood. If this dude actually had spent 18 years on the force abusing minorities, planting evidence, etc, etc, he woulda gotten caught - caught by someone who witnessed something first hand. Ask the guys who thumped Rodney King, or the NYPD officers that shoved a plunger up their suspect's butt.
And I got hand it to the New Mexican. Boy, this is some hard hitting journalism that will ferret out public corruption and will bring this reporter a pultizer. This is right up there with Bob Woodward exposing Watergate. What a joke. This kind of second hand ramblings of a malcontent is more worthy of a paper like the National Enquirer.
Who ever the snitch is, I think you have about as much class as Tensi - maybe less.

I applaud the fact that someone is looking into the possible validity of these statements. If Steve is guilty of only internet bullshiit than no harm no foul. Actually the difference is only a matter of degree.
Maybe you think that a cop planting drugs on someone driving a car with a democratic party bumber sticker is no big deal but if you were in the car and went to jail over the matter or lost you job because of the accusation you might feel the allegory was closer than you do now. Remember I never said Steve was guilty but he did make the statements and did claim to be a state trooper. I contend the allegory is appropriate.

I was speaking to the connotation attached to one that "rats" another to the authorities. Again no one is proclaiming Steve guilty but what makes this different is the fact he claims to be a state trooper and he claims to plant drugs on innocent people to punish them for their political affiliation. Glad someone is asking that this be looked into and if Steve did not do these things than he has nothing to be worried about.

Police step up Web site probe
State police became "more concerned" Tuesday about an investigation into a person who has been posting disturbing comments on a Web site for Denver Broncos fans but could not elaborate because of the investigation.
Peter Olson, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety, said the investigation is not yet conclusive, and he expects it will not end in the immediate future because it will be painstaking and thorough.
The investigation concerns someone who goes by the moniker SteveTensi13 on The Orange Mane Web site, which contains online discussion forums for Broncos fans. Steve Tensi is a former Broncos quarterback who wore No. 13.
SteveTensi13 has stated in the forums that he is a state police officer in Espaņola. "I'll tell you one thing," he wrote Nov. 8, the day after Election Day. "When I go back to work, the first vehicle I see with a pro-democrat bumper sticker will get a nice visit from the friendly policeman and that friendly policeman just might find some incriminating drugs in said vehicle. I'm not saying, I'm just saying."
Olson said he could not talk about the investigation except to say investigators are checking to see if any state computers have accessed The Orange Mane.

honestly I wouldn't be concerned, unless I heard or read on the news that a similar situation happend and it was near where you say you are at the time.
If you say you are in for example green river utah, and then 9news shows an accident where they say an 18 wheeler was part of it, then it could be a concern, but if there is nothing then there is nothing.

If he really is a state trooper, then it's very likely his bosses told him/advised him to stay off the WRP forum until the investigation is complete, Baja. Then again, if he's just BS'ing, he could just be embarrassed that he's gonna be caught in a fib. My own take is that he probably really is a cop and could genuinely be in trouble over it all. :(

Since we are under the scrutiny of the press and God knows who else, I would just like to state for the record:
1. I am 14 years old, have no political opinions about anything, have never done drugs or even shoplifted, and am in no position of authority over anyone except maybe my pet guinea pig and he seldom pays me any attention.
2. Any comments I might have ever made about explosives, demon-summoning, sexual improprities, secret sub-basements in my house or Tatum Bell's blitz recognition skills were just harmless fantasies drawn from my adolescent imagination, and I would never consider acting on any of them.
3. I do not live anywhere near the state of Colorado, despite what my profile indicates. I actually live in Tokyo, Japan.
4. In a really big building in a crowded neighborhood, so don't bother looking.
5. I think the FBI is really cool, and I just hope that some day, some way, I can help them out with catching terrorists or something. I admire our government and everyone in it even when I might not agree with every decision that it makes, and I would probably be even more amenable if I was a mature adult or had the slightest idea of anything going on outside the parameters of my weekly Dungeons and Dragons game.
6. I have never cheated on my taxes because I am a complete nobody who doesn't make enough to pay taxes and I overpay anyway, just to stay out of trouble.
7. I have no idea who any of these other posters are and never read anything they write, and would probably be appalled if I did. In particular, I have never read anything posted by Slap, Beerslug, TheDave, and especially not Hotrod or Clavica-clamicul--clavki--whatever the hell his name is.

Don't the newspapers know that various police forums exist where cops, real and internet, exchange war stories, trash talk and gripes about their respective precincts?
Finally, if Tensi was really performing corrupt abuses of power, would that be his dark little secret or something he brags about to strangers on a message board?
I think he just talks a lot of smack to get under people's skin and someone decided to run with it.

Further, if you look at Bush as "Big Brother" then its ironic to note that Tensi was one of the "good guys" and about the furtherest right poster on here - so far out there it was almost a parody.
Nope, what it boils down to is this - one of our own gave him up. Maybe, possibly it was an unregistered lurker, but more than likely, it was one of us.
I once posted I thought Tensi was a made up persona a few right wingers on the board cooked up to have fun with the left wingers.

Some of the attributes given on the Web site match a particular officer, Olson said, but investigators do not believe that officer would make those comments.
He won't lose his job, look who's investigating him.

I hope to god it was noone on here and it was just someone lurking in.
If it was in fact someone on here I think you really need to look at yourself as well. If you cannot go to a sports message board and say things where can you go?
Like mentioned above, unless we witnessed first hand WE HAVE NOTHING!
What if I said I ran over a dog this morning are you going to automatically believe me and call the cops? What if I said someone I know has first hand knowledge of a murder...uhh ohh better go tell someone even though I could be lying out my ass!
But at least whoever it was told like the child they are, instead of manning up like the adult they should be.
Talking garbage on a message board is one thing. But talking about performing a criminal act is a whole different story. There are a lot of predators who use messageboards to attract young kids. So any mention joking or not about doing a criminal act should be taken seriously. There are some things you just dont joke about and this would be one of them.

The fact is that even if he never did these things and was just talking out his ass to get a rise out of us he could still get fired. That's BS.

I received a note from Steve .... it looks like he will resign before they can terminate him.
It's too bad. If anybody wants to write a letter of support for his personnel file, PM me and I'll give you the address.
I understand your point completely, baja, and if there was any evidence he actually DID any of the crazy things he talked about, then I would agree with you. But this should be a free-form discussion board, and anybody should be free to post whatever they like. ACTIONS matter, WORDS should mean nothing.
For example, I was a criminal defense attorney for 10 years in LA ... what if I had said, "that 18th street gang-banger deserved what he got. I just let it happen - I said 'let him spend a few years in Corcoran to think about what he did.'" Would that mean I should be disbarred? What if they took a look at the case and found I that I had gone the extra mile for the guy at every turn - more than any lawyer would have? Should I still be disbarred? Just for my words?
In another example, I happen to know two users on this board who purport to be something they are not (three counting Pat Bowlen :~ohyah!: where has he been anyway?) Their fraud might be their identity, job, location, personal data, but they are presenting falsehood and defrauding everybody here. But should any of us really care?

Being an un-moderated forum it opened the doors to interactions which at times got out of hand (I know I'm guilty of stepping across the line at times regarding true political issues) , but that should be expected when dealing with such sensitive issues, especially considering the current state of affairs.
On the other hand there are many great informational posts and posters here which keep us informed of the daily news regarding current events!

Given that posts on any open internet forum are, by nature, not private, I really don't understand the notion that conversations posted here would be regarded as confidential... that isn't true on any public messageboard. I don't know if it would be possible to make this forum... or a part of it... private and password-protected so that only registered members can read or post, but perhaps that might be an option...
I, too, am quite dismayed with the career repercussions that ST13 is facing and wish him well.

Blueflame, the propblem that I have with the situation is that this place is only as "secure" as it's members make it. That means that for every Tensi, there is a potential Beerslug, and that makes the place scary. We dont know if Tensi displayed similar behavior on the job. All it took was an accusation and the mailing of some radical opinions.

If a person in Tensi's current situation takes legal action, can they go after the website?

Why is that? What about the bigot and racist Tensi's situtation who claimed he's a police officer, hired to protect and serve the public (all of the public) breaks your heart?
What i dont understand is why people think it was ok for him to post that. Would it have been ok if he posted something racist? Or hate speech? What about molesting children? What exactly is over the top? People keep saying that the snitch should have handled it like an adult. But being an adult is being accountable for what you type on a forum or blog. Its too bad they guy is losing his job but i cant feel sorry for someone was naive enough to post something like that.

That's true of any public forum... but none are truly secure. Posting too much personal information on any publicly accessible internet forum is very, very risky, a fact of which most law enforcement officers are acutely aware. When one is in a profession that requires maintaining maximum credibility (as ST13 apparently was), making politically-incorrect statements, even in jest, is incredibly unwise. Even if no actual crime... or malfeasance... is committed, such a remark could (probably would) violate the policies and procedures of one's employer, who most likely won't be amused by the joke.
The bottom line is this... apparently ST13 wasn't lying about being a law enforcement officer. So... the question is, was he joking in some of the over-the-top posts or was he really a badge-heavy rogue cop who selectively enforced the law? If it was choice "B", then he really needs to be in another profession, imho. If it was choice "A", making those posts was a very unwise, foolhardy decision on his part.

Those decisions are unwise for any person.
It has become evident that this is more of a case of embittered rivals one-upping one another on a message board than a cop showing how dangerous of a person that he is. I thought that Tensi was over the top, but I have no idea what his behavior is like in the workplace. He worked 18 years at his post.
There are several other posters here who make a living out of shock-value fueled politically incorrect and insensitive posts. Should we begin policing their posts?

probably not, but then again if no one knew that Tensi was a cop there probably wouldnt have been anything too it. I know Steve would use his job as a angle of how he looks at society but i think the fact that he was a cop is what raised the alarm. Its exactly why i stopped coming in here. The only reason why i even posted in this thread is because it caught my attention on the main forum. But, i used to get into heated arguements with other guys and gals on here and it just made it uncomfortable for me.
How do you know you are not being lead further down the path with this email. This Steve Tenisi 13 guy might be laughing his ass off at all this or maybe it's LABF or some other poster.
Frankly taken by themself steve's statements made here would hardly be grounds for dismissal of an 18 year veteran if he was in good standing.

Hmmm... that depends. Is there a Raiders or Chefs jersey hanging from the shoulders above that butt with the "kick me" sign? If so, then yeah, I'd probably feel morally obligated to run over and kick it. This is particularly true if said butt belongs to Bobo....
All kidding aside, I realize this forum can get rough-and-tumble and downright hostile at times, so it probably isn't everyone's cup of tea. It seems to me that the question of whether or not to keep the WRP forum was put to a vote a while back and the consensus was that the OM community wanted to keep it. At some point it just may become more of a headache than TJ cares to deal with, though... and it's possible that we've reached that "tipping point".
