Whether Jake finishes out the season as our QB or not I wanted to say thanks to Jake for his service to the Denver Broncos. I was thinking about the very first practice when Jake came onto the field at Dove Valley a few years ago. He immediately brought energy to this franchise. Infact one of my favorite memories of Jake Plummer was the moment he stepped off the practice field for the first time. We were all waiting around to try and get a picture or autograph when someone in the crowd starting chanting "Superbowl! Superbowl!". The crowd errupted and Jake stepped away from the massive media swarm to acknowledge the fans with a couple fist pumps. Right then and there I felt a bit better about our chances as a Broncos fan to see this franchise return to the promise land. We came pretty damn close and looking back it's been a helluva lot of fun watching Broncos ball under Jake if you look at the big picture. Sure it's been frustrating this year but for several years we just didn't lose alot of games.

GREAT THREAD! i think we all need to remember that we do owe jake a huge thanks for the last few years. without him, we probably dont go to the playoffs the last three years. he has been a mostly loveable character and fun to watch for the most part. its too bad that he will have to leave like this but I will always remember the good he did for this franchise.

Hey, MecK, you better duck. Lot's of the people here don't understand the concept of losing a game or two. They came aboard the wagon in 97' and 98'.
I guess I better duck too. Hey, we missed ya at the game. We stayed until the last second and had a blast. A win would have been nice, but, you can't win 'em all!

Mega props to this thread. I know a lot of people want to see the kid play, and they want that so much that they have turned into Jake haters but he has been a terrific quarterback for us. He was even mentioned as an MVP candidate last year and whether because of him or inspite of him (depending on whether or not you are a hater) we played the AFC Championship game at home last year with him under center. He brought a passion and energy to the team that had been lacking under Griese. I will always respect Jake for what he has done for us. That said I still think it's time to move on, but thats for Shanny to decide.

Thanks Jake. So many great memories. MNF last year, tearing up the Jags defense, The overtime win against the Browns, when you went All-world against the Eagles, 31-3 beatdown in Oakland, you helped Rod Smith become our most productive receiver and helped break in Javon Walker. Thanks for all the memories Jake.

Jake has done a lot for this franchise. He came just one game shor of the superbowl and beat the "unbeatable" patriots in the playoffs, and brought us to the playoffs every year he as been here. He broke some of Elways records and even had one of the best streaks ever in the league without throwing an INT last year.

I just remember that game in 2002. Greise had been benced we found out we didn't make the playoffs (some other team had to lose before our game or somthing like that.) and the crowd chanting "We want Jake, We want jake. I remember reading an article about jake playing that last game as a cardnal at Mile High and the crowd chanting "we want jake." he said to himself " I want you to." just after hearing the crowd and reading what jake said wanting to be here, I thought this guy is the real deal. And you know what, Im so glad we got him when we did. He saved us from Gresie and when he first came here, there was so much exciment.

I respect the guy a lot, the guy is a fighter and a likes to compete, and for as much criticism this guy has taken in his time here, I respect the guy a lot. Much of his critism wasn't deserved untill this year. But I am grateful for what plummer has done for us.

Here we go again...Jay Cutler didn't make Jake Plummer throw for a 53 rating last week. There aren't really any Jake haters, just apologists.

I love the "we had never won a playoff game with Griese crap,"

We have one playoff game in half a dedade with Jake. Whoopite doo!

Noone is a Jake hater...it's a matter of his SUCKING. MVP candiate my ass.

I don't see any passion in his play whatsoever. He seems to hang his head after yet another intercetpion just like Griese. Only diffreence is Griese continued to hang his head, and Jake has a 9 minute memory.

Where do you come of with this "Jake haters" crap?

He's ranked at the bottom of the NFL for christ sake...is that hating?

Deny what? I don't care what he did last year or the year before like any player.

Almost everyone is calling for a change. Last year is last year. Even with all the breaks we couldn't close out a home win.

There are other holes, but there is one pretty easy to patch. IMO.

Nice thread, Meck. Great sentiments.

The guy isn't perfect, but for now... he's the 2nd most productive QB in Bronco history. Tough to hate a guy for that. 39 wins over 3.5 seasons with a less than perfect team is nothing to scoff at.

I hope he gets out of this funk and finishes his Bronco career gracefully, provided he won't stay on as a back-up. But, either way... I appreciated watching the wins pile up with him under center.

Meck: Great thread.

Like I've said 99 times before.. Jake surpassed my expectations. We took a gamble on an athletic playmaker with a gunslinger mentality to right the trainwreck this team had become. As frustrating as he has been this year, it is still 1000 times less frustrating than watching the hapless Griese. Jake stepped right in and took control of the team... something his aloof predacessor would never have been able to do. Last year was a masterpiece.. even if it ended on a sour note from a TEAM meltdown. Regardless, it was a great ride. He's been living in the shadow of the greatest quarterback to ever play the game... in one of the most demanding football cities... with a prodigal bluechip on the bench as a constant reminder to his ultimate fate... and he's handled it all with class. Thank you Jake Plummer.

What is lost to Mock and all the Jake haters is that football is a team game. The Broncos have won 3/4s of the games started. Granted, the team around him is good, but there is no way you could win 3/4 of the games you start if you dont have a bit of talent.

When SOB was run outta town on a rail a few years back, we needed a QB. It seems to me that Jake was the best option available - and we werent the only team courting him. He coulda gone elsewhere.

With all that in mind, I cant hate on the guy. He needs to go now. He has lost confidence (much like SOB), but he has heart and has given it his best. I wish him luck where he goes, and I hope that he doesnt come back to haunt us, but I will be glad to see Jay - and soon.

But seriously this guy did and is busting his ass for this team and has shown a lot of leadership that was sorely lacking after Elway left. And I very glad that he was on the team that I cheer for. I think he dedication to his late teammate is honor to all Americans and should be respected by all.

I was trying to think of my favorite Jake moment, and it would have to be that huge game against the Eagles last year. But also, every game against the Chiefs prior to this last one was sweet because of how he would give their defense fits with the bootleg. Chiefs fans get especially sour to see Jake Plummer getting the best of their defense with a bootleg that keeps coming and coming and coming.

I hope he has a huge game against the Chiefs. We need this game.

Thanks Jake for all the wins, and good luck!

My favorite Jake moment was against the Colts in his first year in Denver when we HAD to win in Indianapolis to get to the playoffs. It was a 3rd and 7 I think and we had to get it to melt the clock. The rush got to him and he escaped in Houdini like fashion, rolled to his right and threw a great pass to Eddie Mac for the first down.

We'll definitely miss his ability to avoid a sack. Every time I see him get pressured I know he can make a great play out of it.

Anyway, thanks for everything Jake. Now go out there and bootleg the crap out of the Chiefs!

Great thread, but let's not count the broken eggs until they are broken. Jake has been a winner for this organization in spite of his mistakes, but mathematically, there is still the chance that he can take us to and win the Superbowl this year. Should that happen (which we all can agree isn't likely), but still, should that happen, Shanahan wouldn't send a Superbowl winning QB to the streets for an 2nd year player that hasn't played a snap. I like Plummer and also look forward to seeing Cutler, but I'm not ready yet to say goodbye until that day comes. Until then, Win Jake, Win.

i watched jake take an undefeated ASU team to the rose bowl, score a broken play 4th down scramble TD with about a minute left in the game, only to see the D give up a last second TD to ohio st, watched him beat the cowboys in their house in the only playoff game the lowly cards have won in what 50 years and have thoroughly enjoyed watching him win 39 as a bronco. i've never seen anyone play with more heart, until this year. maybe he can rekindle it somewhere else, maybe he's done, i'm not sure. in the words of woodrow from lonesome dove, "it's been one hellava ride".

If shanahan hadn't drafted cutler, we'd be 10-0. Can you blame Plummer
for being less than enthusiatic this year? Busts his ass last year to get
us to the AFC Championship game only to see the defense fall apart
and give the Steelers the game. Then some hotshot new kid comes
along and the fans are ready to throw Jake under the bus. I wouldn't
blame Jake for throwing the next game just to let shanahan put
culter in so Jake can take the rest of the year off sitting on the
sidelines, healing up, and getting ready to play for Philly.

This isn't a goodbye Jake thread. I just wanted to thank the dude for bringing some respect back to this franchise because Griese basically had no sack at all.

Besides we've had plenty of Jake blows goats threads.

Go Broncos!

Great post, Meck.

As you know from my posts at "the forums", I have been behind Jake. I like Jake, and I still think he can win here. Where are the bootlegs? Rollouts?

Seems Shanahan is holding him back, why I'm not sure.

I don't think Plummer has really ever gotten a chance in Denver. From the very start, people were on his butt. You heard it on the boards, in the stands, and at work. He throws one interception last season when we were rolling and I started hearing "put in Van Pelt". Sad thing is, these guys were serious.

Now, it's only worse with the sure-fire rookie behind him. Cutler might be great when he gets in (I hope so, obviously), but is it a sure thing? Perhaps Shanahan hasn't seen enough in practice to bump him to #1. People fall in love with preseason performances, but ask Tony Scheffler and David Kircus how much preseason means.

So, thanks Jake. Sorry our fans are so spoiled that wins are not what you are judged by.

Jake's been a machine since he's been in Denver and he'll be missed.......a turnover machine that is.

Great post Meck. Thanks for everything Jake. I still hope you can turn it around for the rest of this season. Start it off by getting our first win in Camarohead since 2002.

Thanks Jake......Beat the Chiefs!

Didn't read any posts on this thread except the first one. But I will always be appreciative of Jake and what he's done here. I don't know the stats, but he'll probably leave with one of, if not, the highest winning percentage in the history of this team for a starting quarterback.

Ill always have Jake's back. What the hell happend though...Yesterday I was heartbroken like I haven't been in a while, more than I was after the Pittsburgh loss. Still a supporter, walk it off and finish the season like a true pro J.

I love Jake. Always have, always will. I have some kind of sentimental attachment to him where I could never give up on him totally, that's why I've supported him this whole time. He's frustrated me at times, but I could tell he never gave up on us. There are far worse guys we could have in there playing quarterback any week. I wish there was some way he could finish his career here, which is highly unlikely. Assuming he leaves the division, I'll be rooting for the guy, no matter what.

Thanks Jake.

Very good insight. That thought sort of combines with a good earlier post about how Jake brought life back to the franchise. You're right, and a lot of people probably pull for him through tough times because of that exact reason. When a guy helps pull your team out of a rut, he earns a a good place in fan's hearts.

Given, he's stunk it up a lot this year... but that doesn't change the past, and I'll always hold that if we had a top flight defense last year, Jake could have walked away a SB winner. We got pretty damned close.

We've just been lucky to see so much success the past few years, and the future looks bright with Jay.

Jake is the man, ive been a homer for him since ASU and have LOVED watching him here on my own team. He has the heart to pull out this season, as does this whole team!

Im still standing in the corner that we dont lose a game here on out, and thats with or without Jake, but preferably with Jake.

GOO BRONCOS!

Jake Plummer is many things to many people. In 2003, he became an extremely important person in my life. He did this by making Bronco football fun for me again. The two previous seasons under Griese were not just painful, but painfully dull.

Jake does owe Brian a debt of gratitude. No matter how badly Jake's been scrutinized, it would have been tougher for him immediately following John Elway. Griese absorbed that buffer zone, and set a low standard of performance for Jake to eclipse. Not only was Jake able to do that, he exceeded most people's expectations. He also brought some much needed fire to a team lacking in personality.

Overall, there were more good times than bad times. I don't want to dwell on this season, but its a shame Kubiak had to go. Unfortunately, losing great assistant coaches is a reality of life in the NFL. I definitely feel Kubes' presence would have prevented some of Jake's difficulties this year.

There's no way of knowing how the rest of this season will play out. Whatever happens, I know Jake will continue to be the stand-up guy he's been during his entire time in Denver. I hope he's able to land somewhere next year that gives him the best chance to succeed.

I didn't read every single message in this thread but wanted to give my take on this. I was there between '90 and '97 wondering if Elway would make it to another super bowl, listening to everyone bash him till he got a running game.
I was there watching Brian 'the stautue' get the ball knocked out by a D-Lineman falling somewhere near him, and Bubby as his backup ... Jake hasn't been that bad. Denver's last game of the season before Jake came in, they played Arizona. Denver won the game, but I remeber watching Greise standing in the pocket all day while Jake basically was the Arizona offense. I thought "we need to get him on our team and we could go places"
We did get him and we did go places. We lost 2 tough road games in Indy to end our playoff hopes. Turns out the Pats had their number, and Indy had (and has) ours. Last year the Steelers did it to everyone the 2nd half and went all the way. You can't lay everything on Jake and I hope he can find success after his time with Denver is over.
