There was a quote from Jason Dunn in a KC article. He said Gonzo told him he would be ready, so I'd plan for him and hope it's a fluke. Could Browner be coming back?

Browner won't get a look before someone we already have on the team. Likely it will be Cox starting next to Lynch. Shoate, Paymah, or Fox will likely get more time in the Nickle packages.

I'm not sure this is that big a loss anyway. Ferguson has made some plays here and there, but he's on the other side of 30, was an undrafted free agent who played little on like 2-3 other teams before the Broncos and not exactly threatening to make any Pro Bowl rosters. I feel bad for him that's he out, but I'm not sure we'll notice that much.

YTeah, not huge news at all.
Like they said with Brandon being out. Allows a younger guy in there.
Meanwhile with Brandon out, Gates made huge plays when Rivers finally started to throw to him.
Ferguson is way better than this board gives him credit for and a LOT better than anyone beneath him.
This is a blow to an already battered secondary.

Ferguson was a good helper in the run game and put some hits down now and again... but you forget that he tends to choke in pass coverage.
I say let someone step up. Cox might be the guy, too bad Brandon went down.
Or, we could make Lynch the strong safety which is what he's more suited for anyway, and put Foxworth at free safety. Or better yet, make Bailey the free safety... He pretty much plays the third safety position anyway.. his man is covered so he's always looking to help someone else. god he is good. anyway, I think Cox will step up.

Its huge because we lose a veteran player and put in a younger, less experienced guy. The offset is the younger guy usually has more range and speed. I think Cox/ Abdullah will do well, maybe force Denver to do things that may help the secondary more then hurt it. We will see.

Due to their age and inevitable declining performance, Lynch and Fergy will need to be replaced in the next year or two. Fergy being out the remainder of the year magnifies this need and accelerates the evaluation process for their replacements. Obviously the team will be looking for a safety on the first day of the draft this year and I wouldn't be shocked to see them look for a bargain bin free agent as well.

I have a source that says Denver scouts have been looking at this kid from Wyoming. He also returns punts for the Cowboys, and would be a great 2nd round pick. I hope we get him..
John Wendling, S, ffice:smarttags" /><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comhttp://www.orangemane.com/BB/ /><st1:State w:st=Wyoming (6-1, 220) | previous: 20
He's a key performer on the Cowboys defense that ranks, statistically, as one of the best in the nation. Wendling can run under 4.40 in the 40-yard dash and has a 41-inch vertical leap. He's also one of the most intelligent players in all of college football.

This is the draft to get a D-lineman with players such as:
Gaines Adams
Quinn Pitcock
Quentin Moses
Ray McDonald
Victor Abiamiri
Amobi Okoye
Tim Crowder
Demarcus Tyler
Lamarr Woodley
All who have a decent chance of going in the first round.
Wouldn't be opposed to a safety, just prefer to make sure we get teh D-line answered first and foremost.

i dont see that big of a deal with this, someone said in a thread before, that whenever Cox is on the field he makes a play.
This is the kind of player that is exciting to watch, the kind that is always near the ball, evident on kickoffs and punts and that pittsburgh game (i believe, all the games are starting to run together.) So im kind of excited to see what some of these guys can do.

If your sources are true, Wendling would be a nice addition to the Broncos in the late-second, early third-round of this draft.

I think losing Fergy will even out. I think guys like Cox and Abdullah bring more playmaking potential to the table, but they'll also blow assignments that will open the D up to more big plays. It will come down to which occurs more often.
I think this was Fergy's last year as the starter anyway, but it does suck to lose him.

DENVER -- A Denver TV station is reporting that Broncos (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=den) safety Nick Ferguson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5408) will likely miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
According to KDVR-TV, team sources said Ferguson tore cartilage in his left knee in Sunday's home loss to the San Diego Chargers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=sdg). The station said recovery from the type of injury Ferguson sustained usually takes eight to 10 weeks, meaning he is most likely out for the season.
The Broncos have already lost safety Sam Brandon (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6017) for the season with a torn right ACL.

I'm not that upset about this. I think we have lacked playmaking ability from our safeties all season... yes, this include Lynch. All I've seen both of them do is take bad angles and miss tackles recently.
This is good because it gives us a serious chance to take a look at Abdullah and Cox. I think both have a lot more upside than Ferguson. I think this situation will be much like Pears coming in at tackle.
If they don't play up to par, we'll get a chance see what we need in the offseason.
Ferguson is average at best.

Denver's Defense isn't going to be better, it continues to be decimated by injuries, and a pass rush that can't get to the QB on a consisten basis. Time to bring back that all out BLITZ.

I dont like seeing Fergie go down. He may not be the greatest cover Safety, but he is one of the smartest defensive players on the team. I think that Curome Cox could be a spark to the defense. He is definatly a playmaker, but also a gambler. He brings a cornerbacks attitude to the safety possition. He may not be a heavy hitter, but he is a ball hawk. Foxy becomes the nickle back now, which could give us match-up issues against some of the better TEs.

Does anyone remember against NE in the playoffs when Cox got under a punt and called for a fair catch while on the coverage team? That made me laugh out loud. He is definately an intertaining player...and my adopt-a-Bronco!

Foxy was our nickel back most of the SD game, and got owned by Gates in the 4th quarter.
Ferguson is a smaller loss than Sam Brandon, who was the key to our big nickel formation and taking fast TEs out of the game. Cox will do fine filling in for Fergy, who watches too many plays happen in front of him and has lost a step over his already slow '05 season.
