View Full Version : Good Things From this Game!

Mind you I haven't re-watched the game yet, so my memory is short, but to quote Senor Cardgage I want to "Possitate the negatives" and that's what this thread is for. Things that were positive from this game.
1. The o-line is really coming together. Pears has been outstanding. Talk about a steal. It makes you wonder if Lepsis is even going to be at left tackle when he gets back. Meadows played a good game too. It's amazing how you can really get a run game going when you can establish the edge. This is good because we will have a lot of quality depth at the position next year.
2. Champ Bailey. He pretty much shut down his side and they eventually ignored him. really great to see him play so well so consistently every week.
3. Jason Elam. Quietly Jason has been having an awesome season for us and I appreciate it. Thank you Jason!
4. Voltron
5. Nash and Bell. Both these guys looked great! I think they both have that bruising power of a runner and they both are running angry. Good blocking definitely helped, but they were also more patient with their runs and it paid off.
6. Darrent Williams. Yes, he was picked on most of the game and gave up a ton of plays BUT AT LEAST HE MADE THEM PAY FOR IT ONCE!
7. LT. We got to witness history tonight. I know it was crappy being on the wrong end of it, but you have to set your orange pride aside sometimes and just tip your hat to a lock hall of famer and one of the greatest running backs to play the game.
8. The fans. They were loud and in it. Way to represent. Loved the shaking cameras too. You don't see that in too many other stadiums.

Great point about the o-line. Extremely encouraging stuff going on.

Madden was giving Pears props saying how can this guy go undrafted. He is 300 lbs 6'4" and a wrestling background and that's exactly what you want in an OL. Marshall will be #2 by end of the year. Smith looks like ED MAC his last year. Nash looks strong running the ball.

LaDanian deserves all the praise he gets. He's simply amazing and easily the best player in the NFL today. I have no problem with the amount of praise or accolades he gets. It's much better to have those things lauded on a class act like him rather than a schmuck like Terrell Owens or Chad Johnson.

Don't forget Mike Bell. I know everyone is going to jump on the nash wagon (he did run well) because he had that longer run, but Mike made some things happen. A couple times he was caught and I thought loss, only to have him fight for decent yardage,

Tough game, and SD played extremely well and is hot right now. I like what Bell and Nash did and Marshall showed some nice hands on his 1st catch. But he needs to screw up on other two attempts
Oline is getting to be good on both running and pass coverage.

The best part in my opinion was our ability to run the little dump screen passes. The pats are so good at this and i think we should go to it more with mike bell because has better vision than tatum. It would also help ease jay in(hey i had to get it in somewhere)

I liked watching Meadows seal his blocks in the 1st half. I had a problem from work in the 2nd half I had to deal with looked like SD adjusted to the run game in 2nd half plus they got some players back from injury.
You forgot Brandon Marshall's Fingertip catch & run. When he gets a QB that can get him accurate passes he will be a force.
When does the Cutler era start?

Great points Kaylore.
Though there were some things about the game that made me unhappy, I was still pleased with the overall performance from most of the team. I was really glad to see Mike Bell play so well. Hopefully he will have a huge game Thursday night against KC like Q and Portis have had in the past.
LT has some serious skills and he definitely showed those skills to Denver.

Nash looks like he could be a monster. I love the attitude he runs with. He wants to hit the defender harder than the defender hits him. He is one tenacious pitbull, and fun to watch run the ball.
Great thread! I like looking at the positives of this game and the rest of the season:
1st of all, the division may be in doubt now and that does suck HOWEVER we still have a very real chance to go out there this week and sweep KC. I think our chances are very real. Trent Green is going to be rusty, the offensive line is banged up, Tony G will be limited and we can key on LJ. Oakland had this team beat at KC and let them off the mat.
We are in the spoiler roll now and I think we have some opportunities with that. We definitely a team that has the ability to play with the big dogs... even against SD and INDY, the hottest teams right now, we sported double digit leads.
On to player notes, I agree with the sentiment that the OLine is starting to play very well. Pears has been a great surprise, not really looking weak in any faucet of his game and Adam Meadows cleaned up yesterday. He really looked great. The interior I thought did an excellent job as well.
Our rooks are showing out... Elvis has had a very solid season so far, Pears is doing great, Mike Bell is doing great and Brandon Marshall even had some big plays yesterday. I think once we make a QB switch, Scheffler will get back into the game as well.
We still have one more game at SD and even though that one is more in doubt than last night, we still won their last season and could do it again. Not much of a home field advantage in SD.
Season is still within reach.

All I have to say is that is how you celebrate when you get your 100th TD! Just keep the ball and walk off the field quiety, knowing that you helped your team in some way.

Thats one reason i cant hate the guy, ALL class.
Ok, enough propping the Dolts....
Damien Freaking Nash! Ran hard, saw the hole, then hit it!
Mike Bell also beastly...
The DL once again showed up in spots, why cant they do it all game?
The OL played fantastic, some blitzes got through, but overall very nice job.

Biggest positive I saw was that we CAN win games like this. We had this one all but wrapped up until we imploded. I know we can go into San Diego and beat them in thier own house, I know we can do the same to KC. We are one game down in the division, that isn't too shabby. Ask the Skins how they would feel to be one game down. We are in great place to take a wildcard IF we dont manage to take SD in the second game and outright win the division.

I thought Curome Cox played well. Made a couple special team plays. On the series where Cox filled in for Ferguson, he made a tackle on the run and then broke nicely on a deep sideline pass to force the 3 and out.
Ferguson had a rough game. LT bounced it outside over and over to isolate on Ferguson's side and made him look silly. Not the first safety in the NFL to have trouble with that matchup.

Ok look at the Power Ratings on NFL.com. How come any team that beats Denver is suddenly the new pick to take it all. They talk about SD like the 49ers of the eighties. Hey we were in it til the last play. Numbnuts !!:giggle:

I really like the potential of Marshall. Marshall and Javon Walker could be quite a 1-2 punch at receiver for the next several seasons. Finally it looks like we drafted a decent wide receiver in Marshall after wasting a bunch of 1st - 4th round picks trying to address the position (nash, lelie, watts, etc)

MBell and Nash played great. Now take that and translate that into another game. Consistency is what has hurt Mike Bell. Meadows better stay there as the starter he is coming along. Pears my God he has done well.
Rod was open a lot. Idiot just missed him b/c he refuses to check down on every play and is missing Rod.
Finally the team was embarrassed last night. Looked like the primetime games of years past. Hopefully they take this feeling and morph that into anger. And Coyer Prevent only prevents you from one thing.... winning

Apart from the cheap shots, I thought your offensive line played great. That blocking scheme that you guys use is always tough to beat, and we didn't slow down your RBs until the second half. Nash looked really good.
Defensively, it looked like your secondary did a good job considering Rivers pretty much had all day to throw.
The thing that really impresses me about Denver is how well they play as a team. No insult intended, but you guys are seriously lacking talent in some areas, yet came into Sunday 7-2.
I really hope that our defense can get some players back before we play you again. I don't know if you noticed, but we had quite a few 3rd and 4th string guys out there, and some of them weren't even playing the positions that they practice at.
I thought it was a great football game, but I can understand why you guys are pissed off.

That's the major reason I'm really fvcked off. Your 2 best defenders weren't even suited up for the game and our incumbent QB still couldn't do ****. Unless there's a different one under centre in SD it'll be the same old story.

I have accepted it, if it happens then it is beyond expectations for this year. I do not see a SB for 2-3 years until Jay has time to get comfortable & learn the NFL game & pan out as a QB. At least with Jay we will be growing up, not falling down with Joke Blunder.

here are the things i have accepted this year:
1. tatum bell has a bit more toughness than i thought - but he's still not an every down back.
2. champ baily is a stud. he has "it"
3. foster is a bust...but we got some good depth at OL
4. jake plummer does not have "it"
5. javon walker has "it"
6. i like mike bell

8. elvis is pretty good

I guess I need some of that Kool-Aid you guys are drinking. Why does everyone think Brandon Marshall is the second coming? He has three catches in 10 games. He had a bad drop in the first half and even though Plummer's throw was off on the 3rd-and-4, his effort to grab it blew. Nash had 5 carries for -3 yards in the second half. Meadows gave up the sack on the final play.
- I like Mike Bell's effort a lot. Wish he didn't need so many breathers.
- Pears was fantastic again.
- Thrilled Gold didn't aggravate the hammy. He looked good.
- Thought Cecil got a bad rap from Madden and Michaels. He had to go catch that final kick. It was a live ball. What was Madden thinking saying to just let it roll into the end zone?

Forgot to add that it was great to see the zone toss play that TD ran so way make it way back into the line up and MBell ran pretty well.
BigGuy I think both Walker and Marshall have enough speed to run the cross and the out that both Smith and Eddie Mac were able to pull off for the WCO.

They may have some speed, but neither are burners. Thier strength is the intermediate routes, not the long ball everyone thinks Cutler will be throwing.

He was standing in back of endzone, if he was standing at the goalline he could of caught it and kneeled down, if you look he initially contacts ball in endzone. He isn't a regular kickoff guy so I cut him some slack.

They may have some speed, but neither are burners. Thier strength is the intermediate routes, not the long ball everyone thinks Cutler will be throwing.
Which is fine, since I think that 85% of the pass plays in this offense are in the short/ intermediate range, and the deep pass usually come off Play action.
Denver doesn't run deep pass attacking offense like the Rams used to or KC does. This offense is design on a running game and the WRs to catch short/intermediate route, break a tackle and gain YAC. IT A BALL CONTROL offense, which suck when you notice we haven't been doing that all year.
Shanahan only use the deep pass to keep the safeties honest and away from the line of scrimmage or when he goes for the kill.
