How much of an impact did The Daily Show & Colbert Report have on the 2006 mid-term elections? A discussion about the influence of Comedy Central's political satirists, Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert.

Interesting stuff. Colbert seems to have over taken Stewart in popularity terms... The Daily Show peaked at Indecision 2004, I found it depressing to watch after that but it seems even numbered years equals a shot in the arm!

I'd say none. the repubs pulled the rug out from under themselves pretty good without the help of the press. However, they did make it easy for them now didn't they..dman

This is a foolish comment in someways. That's like saying that the Republican talking points have no effect on the election.

When more people trust 'news' from these two shows than from the real media - i'd say it has a large impact. not maybe an over all poll #'s - but it shows the impact that more people are fed up with being lied to - and enjoy the satire where it's plain and clear what message you are getting.

Sometimes artists use satire and lies to show truth.

Why does it not suprise me that people take information given from rush, hannity, savage as news and not the point that it's a 3hr show that's listed as infotainment.

They didn't, by the turnover in seats I saw.

No way. More people? What a sampling of two? Comedy is what it is. These guys tell jokes for a living. Satire , perhaps. Very left leaning satire. You may trust them more, that is on you, not me. But, trust me, you are in the minority on this one.

Artists? Comedians perhaps, and writers. And there may be an occassional truth also, I'm sure. But , because of the leaning left, it's pretty one sided. if you are conservative, you are bad. ENTERTAINMENT is where their emphasis lies, NOT reporting news, NOT THE truth necessarily...dman

And why is it lefties always assume people they don't agree with must listen to those people. Newsflash: I don't listen or watch these people's show. Unlike lefties, I do have the ability to think for myself and don't need the NY Times or Hollywood to tell me what to think.

Dman,

There are somethings i have found that i can't explain to you - and one of them is the advent of media consumption + pop culture = indicitive of where shifts occur and patterns in where the 'mass' is sitting.

Maybe if you looked at cable ratings and saw the show has grown in popularity enough to spawn the colbert report - you'd get a better idea of what i'm looking at.

When rush was in his heyday - during the clinton run - he made a huge impact on how a segment of the population voted.

Same thing here. Except - if you ever watched both shows - they mock everyone.

So again - you've missed...the errr - boat.... ;)

it's obvious you are an idiot - because everyone here knows i'm the furthest thing from a lefty.

But since you just validated the case in point of using nothing more than a retred example and parroted responses - i guess we know you are either lying - or you went to a reeducation camp. ;)

Hmmm, you don't watch the show but you are an authority to comment on it's effect. Like Marilyn Manson makes kids shoot up schools! The boogyman!!!

I prefer the Daily Show over the Colbert Report. Colbert wouldn't be where he is today without the Daily Show.

No, you listen to Limbaugh, Savage, Coulter, Hannity, Beck and O'Reilly. Thinking for yourself? It seems like these people dicatate how you vote.

I'm assuming you sit in his living room and keep a journal of what he watches? Sheesh, it's entirely possible to be a free-thinking Republican. I find a lot to like in Republicanism, just as I find a lot of value on the left.

You just contradicted yourself. Obviously you do listen to Mush and or Fox Spews if you think liberals listens to what Hollywood says. Mush and Fox Spews are the only ones that talk about Hollywood, because it is an easy topic for narrow minded, insignificant people to focus their hatred on.

lmao @ republicans.

Rush just admitted last week he is happy that he doesn't have to LIE to his listners anymore and support republicans that he didn't feel deserved it, he did it only because he HAD to.

Rush had no credibility before to the objective, but now even his supporters should be running from him.

Yet they are still listening I am sure!!!

lmfao!!! OWNED!!!!!!

I turned the TV on Sat, cause my foot was hurting. College football was in "pause mode" so I turned on some show on cnn about a group of guys who got wounded and some killed in Iraq. It was awful. Swithed to fox and their special was putting together care packages for the troops.
