You have a choice. You can have either Eli Manning or Shawne Merriman and Phillip Rivers together.
One or the two others.
What would you choose? ROFL!

Eli Manning, granted he forced a trade on Draft day. Merriman got himself in trouble and that isn't worth the risk and Rivers has already held out once and is still questionable only starting 9 games.

I think most everyone in San Diego is thrilled with how that turned out. We got our kicker from that too.

Chargers have made some good trades. LT for Vick, Rivers and Merriman.

I think they did great Rivers will be a great QB, Merriman despite being dumb is a great pickup, and LT is outstanding

Oh, it's fine. We usually win and they're a fun team to watch. Besides it's more a slam against the Giants than anything else.

Oh man you guys made out like a bandit from that fiasco. But Merriman and his trouble has to be a big concern. Whether or not he is guilty he now has that microscope on him. He needs to redeem himself big time. Kind of like Ray the murder Lewis.

I hope you're joking with that question Khan.
Rivers only played his 9th game ever today, and already: Rivers > Eli

Oh - and one more thing - as long as the steroids thing is not too serious with Merriman, he's the second best defensive player in the AFC West ... maybe the whole league.

I'm not kidding. You're a little slow on the draw, BB. I was indirectly mocking the trade that the Giants made for Manning because the picks they gave up allowed them to snag Shawne Merriman in next years' draft after trading Rivers for Manning.

If you were "mocking the trade," then you WERE kidding, right? ::) Uhh

....I can't believe I'm even answering this. No, BB. I thought it was a bad trade for the Giants. Man.

The Giants gave up way too much for Manning. Manning has to be so much better than Rivers or Roethlisberger to get equal value out of it because they could've had any of them pretty much or at least choose between 2 of them without trading anything. Not sure if SD would've picked Manning if they didn't have a deal in place. with NY.

Shawne Merriman and Phillip Rivers. Pretty clear at this point.
Eli looked weak last night.

Rivers. He has that "look". Maybe he and Cutler will rule the AFC West over the next few.

The thing that made it such a brilliant move by AJ Smith (our GM) was that Rivers was above Sheli on our draft board. He just knew that the Giants were suckers, and that Manning was a cry baby.

If Merriman proves to be just as deadly without steroids then all will be forgotten, except by rival fans. The NFL tends to be a very forgiving league if you continue to be productive ie. Peppers and Lewis.
You have to give SD credit. They made the most use out of their terrible teams and high draft picks. They were crafty with Trades which helped them pickup Drew Brees and LT... years later they manufactured the trade for Philips and Merriman.
Props to them.
Unfortunately because Denver wins so much, we never get to pick even in the top 15 unless we are smooth moving around and trading up.
I can't wait until the talent in this division evens out with Jay Cutler at the helm.

Speaking of which, that 2004 draft has to be one of the best drafts in the NFL, if only because it played such a pivotal role in changing the SD organization around, helping us become contenders. AJ Smith is a hardass, but he's good at finding talent through the draft, and it's paying off now and in the future.

I don't like to swing from AJ Smith's nuts like some people do, but he's made some amazing moves since he took over. We have one of the youngest, and yet most talented teams in the NFL. Added to that, the great majority of our key players are signed for the long haul. He's also added some quality depth to have us at 7-2 after the whole slew of injuries that we've had. The guy deserves some insane props.

I am with you. In a straight up trade, Rivers for Manning, I would take Rivers. Merriman is just icing on the cake. The fleecing of the NFC East by the AFC West continues... Bailey and Bell for Portis, Rivers and Merriman for Manning. The coup-de-grace will be when the Faiders or Chefs can get anything from Philly or Dallas (not holding my breath on that one, thou). Oh, and the AFC West outplayed the NFC East heads up last year.
Yet, strangely, the NFC East is still the best division in football. Yawn.

It's amazing what a competent GM can do for a team when you have your first round picks at your disposal.
Oh where are you Bobby Bethard?
