Captain Rod

Before the game against Indianapolis, Broncos veteran receiver Rod Smith decided to address his team's offensive slump head-on. At Dove Valley, head-on means a one-on-one meeting upstairs in Shanahan's office.

"We had a personal conversation - what my thoughts were on some things that I can do down here (in the locker room) as well as make sure I have the latitude to say certain things," Smith said. "You don't want to step on anybody's toes in this business. He understood and agreed with me on a lot of points and at the same time he relayed the information to the coaches as to what I saw from the inside."

After averaging 13.2 points through the first six games, the Broncos' offense has scored 31 points in each of the past two.

Wouldn't you like to have a few more details regarding that conversation??!!

But another example of what a stand up guy Rod has become. Talk about someone who learned from mistakes instead of doggedly repeating them.

Rod is a VALUABLE asset to this team on and off the field! I hope that when this man chooses to retire from playing the game, he chooses to start a new career in some fashion with this team in another role! I love the way this man handles himself in the public eye and seemingly behind closed doors. He truly is a GREAT ROLE MODEL!

I'm really happy that Denver's young crop of Recievers have Rod around to help them start their career. Even Young veterans Like Javon seem to be influenced by the guy. Hopefully that means we will get another generation of relativly Selfless WRs.

I think Rod has a bright future as a coach, should that be the direction he decides to pursue when he retires. He possesses every quality necessary to succeed in that field. I would be happy as hell if they started grooming him to be the OC some day.

Screw the Oval Office, I want to be a fly on the wall in THAT office.
