I know this isn't front page or even GD page material, but I need some quick input. Anybody here work at the Waterton Facility for LM? Have an interview coming up in a little bit and would like to ask a few questions. Sorry for the OT in the GD forum, but it's kind of important. Thanks!

It's a huge facility about 5 miles SW of Littleton... surely there are Maners that work out there or have family that does?

It's right next to Chatfield Res. Next door neighbor retired from there a couple of years ago but I know nothing current about it.

I had been invited to tour the place by a guy I used to work with who also worked as a tour guide at the facility. The neatest part about the whole thing was that the guy also happened to be one of the Tuskegee Airmen.

I think Oskie was looking more in line for some information about the company, how do they treat their employees, tough environment yada yada yada.
And to those who replied with, "Yea, I once toured the facility." LMAO! Hilarious

I think the point you're missing here is that, at least so far, no one works or knows anyone who works at the facility. We wish him the best of luck, but all threads have posts like this, its how we communicate and learn about each other.

I appreciate all the input. I just finished the interview and I'm not sure I did that great. Didn't bomb it, but didn't do great either. I did mention at the end that I was a Broncos Fan and needed to get to Denver... they laughed and said that they were adding "bonus" points. That was probably the best part of the interview...lol j/k, just had a few questions that I wasn't prepared to answer. Supplier Quality Assurance is normally my strong suit, but I didn't answer as well as I should have.
Anyhow, thanks for all the input. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but it was much appreciated anyhow.
Gonzo, you're correct that I was looking more along the lines of the type of facility. Don't care much about how they treat their people b/c I'm a DoD employee and wouldn't work for the Ktr itself, but rather ensure they are building to contractual specifications. At any rate, all of the answers were appreciated, regardless of whether it was exactly what I was looking for. And, for the record, the guys that got to tour the facility DO have insight to add. You can tell a lot in a manufacturing facility via a simple tour. You don't even have to have floor level access to gather key information such as pride of work, how nice the facility is/work environment, and whether or not everyone wears Orange N Blue on Fridays!!!

Best of luck, Oskie! who knows, maybe those "bonus" points will get you the job after all! ;) I do know that when I took the tour I was very impressed with the care and professionalism I saw while I was there.

Did you bring your golf clubs? If not you missed out on a terrifically scenic course - Arrowhead in the near vicinity. I mean, whether you get the job or not should not have prevented checking out the local area.

Employers know that prospective employees are nervous if they really want the job and can stumble a bit. I wish I had seen this thread earlier. If you make some gaffs, there is nothing wrong with telling them you were nervous. When you make your followup call there's no shame in telling tham how you want to move to Denver so much. That's a beautiful canyon. Now you got ME missin' the foothills again. I used to scamper on Red Rocks all the time. What a natural ampatheater. Too bad it's a little small now, but big bands show just cause it's so cool.
There are no doubt some skunks around that place. Ha!

I didn't travel to Denver for the Interview. Phone interview via telecon tie in. 3 panel members. Not sure what they were. Probably a couple of 12's and a 13. Perhaps a 14 or 15 but probably not necessary for a Tech Lead interview.
I will follow up with an email on Monday probably. One guy mentioned he was a Bengals fan when I started asking about the guys there and if most of them were Broncos fans. Probably not something I should have done during my interview, but that's my love for the Orange N Blue! I want to move to Denver for many different reasons, but make no mistake, one of those reasons is to be around more fellow Broncos fans!
I've looked in and around the Littleton area for houses and was supprised to find houses a little less than I was expecting. I figured atleast $250-300k for 2k sq ft. But I was able to find pretty nice houses for 200-225k in that square footage. Would only be 5-10 miles from work too!
Anybody know anything about the school in and around Littleton? Chatfield etc.?

B-Rock, I'm sure your friends probably work for Lockheed Martin. The position I applied for/interview for is a DCMA position. I work for the Department of Defense ensuring Government Contracts are performed and carried out as directed by the Contract. I work Quality Assurance and this particular position was for a Quality Tech Lead. If any of your friends work for DCMA they could certainly help. They could also help if they were good friends with anybody from DCMA as well. DCMA does have Engineers, but like I said, I'm on the Quality side of the house.

Only about a 7 hour drive to my hometown from there and then I could scam back my season tickets from my family!

Depends on where you are in "Littleton" If you are close to LM, you will be in Jefferson county. Chatfield is the closest HS and Colombine and Dakota Ridge I believe are the next closest. A little further northeast and you are in Littleton Schools. Heritage HS is probably about the same distance from LM as Columbine/Dakota Ridge. My kids are in that system and I have been very impressed. To the Southeast is Highlands Ranch which are Douglas County Schools. All of those are good school districts, but I am predjudiced to Littleton. Housing depends on your tastes. You can get come pretty good buys in Highlands Ranch with the slow down in the market. If it works out, you should have Meck hunt you down some options.

I know there are a few different facilities out there with DCMA and there are plenty of other DoD type jobs as well. In fact, I saw one for DFAS earlier today and it's a 12 target 13. EVEN BETTER as far as money is concerned, but doesn't sound near as interesting or fun. Challenge is good!

I'm not a big fan of that area south of town. They seem to have just build houses one on top of the other. I love Castle Rock and Larkspur - but your commute would be kind of rough (although not as bad with C-470). My brother lives out in the Perry Park area in Larkspur, and I love it - lots of trees.

Okay, now I have another new question. I assume most, if not all, houses in Denver have basements. That house on Kyle is listed at 2400+ sq ft on Realtor.com, but then Zillow shows it at 1600+ sq ft. I guess it's probably 1600 plus the basement wich comes out to around 2400? Is that how houses in Colorado are normally listed? Reason I ask is b/c I see a lot of houses that are listed at 1100-1400 sq ft for a lot less... surely they aren't including the basement in that footage as that would leave the main floor plan with 700 or less square feet.
Bronx33

Naw they usually list houses having basements i don't think they add up the total footage but my pal over they on buckeye which is just down the street (has a huge basement) a good person to ask would be meck.

Very close to LM. Haven't been out there in a while, but it is close to that golf course Treici mentioned. Lots of new houses.
I think the square footage is the finished square footage so finished basement would be included, unfinished would not. Not positive about that.

There are tricks. Generally in late summer they offer during weekday specials. After 3 or 4. Usually a special w/cart isn't too expensive. You might not be able to get in all 18 before dark, but at least 14-15 holes. We used to take a couple hours off work and go enjoy the glorious Colorado evenings.

Square footage only includes above grade. The only way the basement is included in the square footage calc is if its a walk out.

Is that a fairly recent change? Used to be as long as it was finished and part of the liveable space the square footage counted. My previous house in Lakewood had a bedroom, family room, office and laundry room in the full basement. All of it was included in the count.

Its actually pretty standard. Some agents will include the entire square footage for sales purposes. For lending however its not included in the over all square footage, although it does add value if that makes sense.

I'm trying to move up to the denver area as well Alex. You guys at DCMA get a lot of crap and there are not near enough of you.
Good luck!
Would they be switching to NSPS or have they already? I know that congress has put a freeze on all NSPS conversions, to bad they already switched us to here where I'm at. You need to check into that as it has been a real bitch of a program here. We've already been told that we shouldn't expect to get our regular salary increases for steps or promotions.
Sucks for me because I'm about to get a GS-13 slot, but instead of the 13%+ increase the most I can get is 5%. I may get the position and then find a different job where they don't have NSPS. That was Rummy's creation, but with him getting the boot (PRAISE THE LORD) it may go away. I can only hope it does.

So much to touch on... we're severely under-manned no doubt! But, in a way it's fortunate b/c it opens up a lot of OT which is out of the norm for DoD folks. True 1.5 pay as well, so it's nice and you can make a pretty good living (60-80k)with a sole income.
We haven't switched to NSPS although there are talks that it will happen next year. Best I can tell it's a big time Golden Boy system with office favs taking the majority of the pay raises. I'll want to give you a shout here soon to ask you some questions about it. I kind of thought it would be beneficial b/c my bracket groups me through 13's (non-supervisory) so I wouldn't be capped at $70k. I think the NSPS band went up to $85k or more in base pay. But, if you guys are having problems getting step increases with TOS then it sounds like it could be a pretty shiity deal. I know we joke around with a few guys at work all the time. Saying that it will basically be the CMO coming down with say 25% worth of pay raises. So that leave 10% for 2 of us and 5% for the other guy. He's actually pretty sharp, but fun to mess with anyhow. I'll give you a shout soon to ask some more questions about pay banding.
I'm thinking about going a couple of different directions in the near future. I considered engineering, but that is one of the options that is further down the list. I can go into Program Integration or Program Analysis directly from where I'm at now. If I go the engineering route we're talking 2 more years of school. Naturally I have the Industrial Specialist route as well which is where many Q's seem to go for upward mobility. I'd love to go over seas, but my wife isn't interested. I think it will probably be my fairwell tour when we're old and without the kiddos. Lots of time to think about that though!
I'll shout at you later Jack...

I would certainly keep you in mind, but I don't think it would work out too well. We're in a house that's almost double that and my kiddos drive me nuts. 3 daughters so you better have 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms if I'm even to consider... LOL!

I worked at Martin but a long time ago (1980) - it is a nice drive to work. They seem to treat their employees decently (my dad is a martin retiree)
Disagree with the comments on Highlands Ranch - it's a great place to live. I've lived in southwest Denver, Arvada, Westminster, Thornton, and Louisville in my 47 years in the area - Highlands Ranch (where I live now) tops all those in my book. Lots of parks, nice rec centers that are free with your home owners fees, and you can get a much better house in Highlands Ranch for the money than you can in Littleton. Send me a private message if you want the name of a good realtor in Highlands Ranch.

That house most likely has a walk out basement so I am sure that is why it is listed as 2400 sq ft. Most houses in that area are walk out basement b/c there is a lot of terrain there to build the house into. Roxborough is an awesome neighborhood. I work down south at Centennial Airport but I choose to live by Wash Park which is close to Downtown. I can't stand the cookie cutter houses in the burbs. Stay away from Highlands Ranch the place is huge and I swear it looks like the same house for miles and miles.

I wouldn't say it's cookie cutter, but most are from a single builder.

Well,I'm tired,I got 8 inches of snow and it's cold and I'm done fighting it. There should be enough sun to melt it.

Kyle is in Roxborough Village, and IMO that is a very nice area. That has to be one of the first homes built there in 1987 and most of those have full basements, many of them walkout basements. However, that Kyle area has some bums in it, IMO. That's the poor side of the Village. That's like the wrong side of the tracks in Roxborough. That and Pulte.

Anybody???
I don't know alot about Lockhead but that's a beautiful area. Decent fishing in waterton! Light rail line is pretty close by and an easy commute to downtown! I looked at alot of horse properties in the area a few months ago and definetly an area worth looking into. Also there are a couple nice roads up the hill towards Evergreen that you should drive up to take a look around.
You could easily live in the mountains, work at Lockhead, and ride the train to Broncos games! Not a bad way to live.
Infact I showed No1Broncofan some property up that way when I moved him to town. He knows the area and could give you some perspective as well.
Good luck!

Oskie, as you might have heard, COLUMBINE HS is the High school for that area around Waterton. I don't know how good schools are there, but have heard that a lot of colorado schools were hurt by a ballot measure ther ten years ago.
That area is so much different than it was when I grew up there.
The LM facility used to be just Martin,,,,and they built the Titan missile there and later the Titan ii. I lived in a neighborhood just off Belleview and Platte Canyon road, which was the main road to Waterton, Deer Creek Canyon and the Martin plant. Martin was nine miles from my house. They would transport the completed boosters along that road, all covered in blue canvas, super wide load signs and escort vehicles fore and aft, and we would watch them if we happened to be home. We knew they weren't grain silos. They shipped about ten through there in early October 62. Never saw that many again.
In the early sixties they would test the rocket motors occasionally, and you could hear it very clearly, especially at night. You could also see the sky light up. There was really no development, at that time, anywhere south of my neighborhood. Columbine Country club was just south of Bowles avenue and that was the last of the developments. Just open farms and some rural horse properties all the way to the mountains. The rocket test stands were above the plant up the canyon.
In high school we used to drive out to deer creek canyon for "woodsies", or to drink beer and have unsupervised "parties". Since you could buy 3.2% alcohol beer at age 18 then, it was never hard to get. Other areas were down Santa fe ( hwy 85) to the area where the current turn off to waterton is, and on the hillsides to the north of that turn...All cattle country then.
County line road was unpaved farm road....now its just south of I 470 and 4 lanes.
Chatfield dam didn't exist. It was built after a flash flood came roaring down the Platte river valley in June 65, and proceeded to cause extensive damage through the Littleton, englewood and denver basin. The flood actually happened when a cloudburst dropped 18" of rain in two hours on the Plum creek watershed near Sedalia....which dumped into the Platte.
Sorry for going on. For some reason it got me reminiscing.
I still miss Colorado....but the one I knew is long gone. You can't go home again...cause it isn't there anymore. Sigh. It was great...and I'm sure still is...just different.

I have to disagree with this thats with traffic in the morning and its always bached up.
It depends on where ya live and when you leave of course, i could drive from englewood going 285 to 470 to hwy 93 all the way to rockyflats in 20 min.
