League MVP:
Peyton Manning - No denying he is what allowed the Colts to go on back to back road games against the two other dominant forces in the AFC and come out with a victory. As much as it pains me to say, this guy is definately the MVP to this point.

Offensive Player of the Mid-Year:
LT LT and some more LT. This guy just never ceases to amaze me. I dont believe that, on the football field, there is anything this guy CANT do. Runs as good as anyone, catches better than most and can even toss the occassional touchdown when required.

Defensive Player of the Mid-Year:
Champ Bailey. Tempting to go with Peppers, or even Urlacher who is also having quite a year, but no other defensive player literally takes half of an offense away by himself and why anyone decides to pick on this guy in the red zone is a complete mystery to me.

Offensive Rookie of the Mid-Year:
I was torn between Colston and Maroney but since the Patsies have Tom Terrific, I had to go with Colston. Rarely do you see rookies light it up, particularly late round rookies (252nd pick overall!) light it up, but this guy has hands of glue, is a great route runner and, far more the Bush, is what has helped the Saints offensively (that, and Drew Brees is 10 > Aaron Brooks).

Defensive Rookie of the Mid-Year:
Mark Anderson or Elvis Dumervil? I had to go with Anderson because he A) Is more complete and B) Has more sacks. This guy is playing top notch football and while Elvis is coming on, he isnt quite on teh same level as Anderson.

Comeback Player of the Mid-Year:
The chic pick is to go with Brees but since Brees played 16 games last season and only went out during their finale with the Broncos I chose Javon Walker who missed almost the entire season last year, and now leads the league in YPC and is 6th in yardage despite seeing the ball far less than any of those above him. With 6 total touchdowns, this guy has changed the complexity of our beloved Bronco's and really gives them everything we all hoped Lelie could provide but never did.

Coach of the Year:
Sean Payton has done a terrific job in new Orleans and getting not only the right personell in there at the right time but also getting these guys to play together as a team day in and day out.

Best Offseason Acquisition:
New Orleans picking up Drew Brees and passing on daunte by a slim margin over Denvers pickup of Javon Walker for a 2nd round pick. Denver looks to be a force..again but New Orleans has completely turned around from a disasterous 2005 tragedy filled season.

Best New Coach:
Gary Kubiak. I might be a little biased here, but the turnaround in the Texan's ATTITUDE while playing, the increased performance of the offensive unit and Carr in particular (minus one game), has sold me. They play now, unafraid and confident. Their record is not great, but its a different feel to the team now, they feel like they can win against most teams. No more deer in the headlights look to them, this team is like a cat on the prowl now. A young cat yes, still learning how to pounce, but definately one with teeth and claws.

Biggest Surprise:
New Orleans without question

Biggest Dissappointment:
This is a tie and when I list them you will see why: Pittsburgh and Arizona. pittsburgh obviously is returning superbowl champs but zona because they hae all the tools to be AT LEAST .500. A decent defense, top notch receivers, and an above average RB. When they get an offensive line this team shouldnt lose many games.

Best Bronco Moment:
Tatum Bell taking Ray Lewis for a ride.

Worst Bronco Moment:
Opening Day - the whole day. ****.

Best league moment:
MNF New Orleans thrashing of Atlanta.

Worst League Moment(s):
Albert Haynseworth & TOs alleged suicide attempt.

Just curious, how is Brees a candidate for comeback player of the year in your mind. He got injured in the last half of the last game last year. Besides, can a player get the award twice?

Also, if Sean Payton is coach of the year (and a brand spanking new one at that) how does he not win your new coach award....never mind, you already stated your bias with Kubes.

I think that's a great list, Alec. There isn't a single selection you made that I'd choose differently.

I can't argue with any of that....except that I'm a Maroney homer and don't think being on the same team as Brady should hurt him in anyone's eyes.

You misread. I said the chic pick is Brees, but that was not my pick. Lots of others have picked him though.

1) I am biased and...
2) Totally forgot Payton as a new coach.

BTW, nice post Alec. Good takes. I did misread the Brees section....oopsHilarious!

Brees is a dog**** choice for Comeback POY.

Marony probably would have got the nod in my book if he was starting and playing most of the snaps since Im a running back guy, not a WR guy, but there is no denying Colston's ability at this point.

Strong selections, Alec.

I know he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning the thing, but I believe Texans middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans has been the most impressive rookie on the defensive side of the ball this year.

If he was in NY he would be a top choice.

he has two problems though. 1) He is small, so Im not sure how long he will hold up and 2) He overpursues way too much. Smallishness may not be a bd thing and overpursuit can be coached away.

But agreed, he has been a fantastic pickup for the Texans and now that Mario is starting to come round, they got two really great players on defense to build on.

And the most ignored rookie.

I agree with all your votes and capsules, except:

1) Hayneworth is right, but imo TO did not attempt suicide.
2) Texans LB DiMeco Ryans is prolly defensive Rookie of Year
3) Shouldn't Sean Payton win best new coach too? And to be honest, though everybody here will hate this, I think Herm Edwards is ahead of 2-6 Kubiak. Herm's Chefs have overcome All-Pro retirements and injuries to stay just 1 game off the lead at 5-3. I think he's a horrible gameday coach - but you can't deny those factors.

And I totaly agree:

BREES over JAVON .... best aquisition, and
JAVON over BREES .... comeback player

1) TO's "alleged" suicide (hence, the whole story behind it, worst moment)
2) DeMeco Ryans has a great case, I wont argue with that, but being on the worst defensive team in football wont help his case.
3) I addressed the Sean Payton Best New Coach anomoly, read the other posts in the thread.
4) Sperm Edwards will never get my vote for anything. These are, afterall, ALEC'S MIDSEASON AWARDS :P

Yes, he has done a great job. He has almost completely won me over.

I haven't seen nary a sign of this "horrible gameday coach" stuff, either. Clock management has been good outside of the end of the Denver game.

great list heres mine

League MVP:
Peyton Manning - Leading indy to wins in NY denver and new england theres no debate here im my opinion

Offensive Player of the Mid-Year:
LT-The most complete back in the game and playing probably better than he has before. The guy can run catch throw and block i drool at the thought of him in a denver uni

Defensive Player of the Mid-Year:
Champ Bailey- You could make a case for kampan peppers or urlacher but champ alters opposing teams gameplans more than anyone else. Literally taking away half the field. 5 picks all in the redzone.

Offensive Rookie of the Mid-Year:
I gotta go with colston. The 34th wide reciever taken, third to last pic and hes in the top 10 of a lot of offensive categories. Kind of came out of no where being from hofstra(sp)

Defensive Rookie of the Mid-Year:
I think im going with mark anderson because hes been more constant and has more sacks. granted he has tommie harris playing on the line with him i still think he edges out elvis

Comeback Player of the Mid-Year:
Javon walker- A lot of people(not me) were questioning health, attitude etc. All hes done is completley change the make up of this offense and the team in general. He quickly became one of bronco nations favorites and for good reason.

Coach of the Year:
Sean Payton has done a terrific job in new Orleans and getting not only the right personell in there at the right time but also getting these guys to play together as a team day in and day out.(alec is 100% right here)

Best Offseason Acquisition:
tie- javon walker and drew brees, both in their own ways changed their respective franchises. both has health questions and both have proved any doubters wrong, its a tie

Best New Coach:
kubiak? payton? no its eric mangini im my opinion. Hes got that jet team who no one thought would do much of anything playing with a ton of heart and passion. taking the colts to the wall was very impressive.

Biggest Surprise:
New Orleans with the jets a close second

Biggest Dissappointment:
pitt

Best Bronco Moment:
beating brady in new england

Worst Bronco Moment:
Opening Day with the defensive meltdown against indy a close second

Best league moment:
the saints homecoming

Worst League Moment(s):
Albert Haynseworth without question

Rock Chalk

Mangini is a great pick for new coach. Though his team is only 4-4 and playing in a horrible division, they are a scrappy bunch.

Hindsight I have to amend my New Coach and Coach of the Year. Cant give one guy both so I went Coach of the year for Payton and Kubes for best new coach. Thats how I get away with the anomaly. ;D

Belichick always had a commanding, no-nonsense presence. Every time I see Mangina he reminds me of some dude that owns a comic book store.

Didn't Garrison Hearst get the award twice when he was in San Francisco?
