League MVP:
Peyton Manning - No denying he is what allowed the Colts to go on back to back road games against the two other dominant forces in the AFC and come out with a victory. As much as it pains me to say, this guy is definately the MVP to this point.
Offensive Player of the Mid-Year:
LT LT and some more LT. This guy just never ceases to amaze me. I dont believe that, on the football field, there is anything this guy CANT do. Runs as good as anyone, catches better than most and can even toss the occassional touchdown when required.
Defensive Player of the Mid-Year:
Champ Bailey. Tempting to go with Peppers, or even Urlacher who is also having quite a year, but no other defensive player literally takes half of an offense away by himself and why anyone decides to pick on this guy in the red zone is a complete mystery to me.
Offensive Rookie of the Mid-Year:
I was torn between Colston and Maroney but since the Patsies have Tom Terrific, I had to go with Colston. Rarely do you see rookies light it up, particularly late round rookies (252nd pick overall!) light it up, but this guy has hands of glue, is a great route runner and, far more the Bush, is what has helped the Saints offensively (that, and Drew Brees is 10 > Aaron Brooks).
Defensive Rookie of the Mid-Year:
Mark Anderson or Elvis Dumervil? I had to go with Anderson because he A) Is more complete and B) Has more sacks. This guy is playing top notch football and while Elvis is coming on, he isnt quite on teh same level as Anderson.
Comeback Player of the Mid-Year:
The chic pick is to go with Brees but since Brees played 16 games last season and only went out during their finale with the Broncos I chose Javon Walker who missed almost the entire season last year, and now leads the league in YPC and is 6th in yardage despite seeing the ball far less than any of those above him. With 6 total touchdowns, this guy has changed the complexity of our beloved Bronco's and really gives them everything we all hoped Lelie could provide but never did.
Coach of the Year:
Sean Payton has done a terrific job in new Orleans and getting not only the right personell in there at the right time but also getting these guys to play together as a team day in and day out.
Best Offseason Acquisition:
New Orleans picking up Drew Brees and passing on daunte by a slim margin over Denvers pickup of Javon Walker for a 2nd round pick. Denver looks to be a force..again but New Orleans has completely turned around from a disasterous 2005 tragedy filled season.
Best New Coach:
Gary Kubiak. I might be a little biased here, but the turnaround in the Texan's ATTITUDE while playing, the increased performance of the offensive unit and Carr in particular (minus one game), has sold me. They play now, unafraid and confident. Their record is not great, but its a different feel to the team now, they feel like they can win against most teams. No more deer in the headlights look to them, this team is like a cat on the prowl now. A young cat yes, still learning how to pounce, but definately one with teeth and claws.
Biggest Surprise:
New Orleans without question
Biggest Dissappointment:
This is a tie and when I list them you will see why: Pittsburgh and Arizona. pittsburgh obviously is returning superbowl champs but zona because they hae all the tools to be AT LEAST .500. A decent defense, top notch receivers, and an above average RB. When they get an offensive line this team shouldnt lose many games.
Best Bronco Moment:
Tatum Bell taking Ray Lewis for a ride.
Worst Bronco Moment:
Opening Day - the whole day. ****.
Best league moment:
MNF New Orleans thrashing of Atlanta.
Worst League Moment(s):
Albert Haynseworth & TOs alleged suicide attempt.
