Face it, fans and the media, with their fickle nature, feel significantly better about the Broncos winning 31-20 than they do winning 13-3.
"If I was a fan, I would have felt better when the defense was giving up three points and six points
I've been posting that for weeks. The most encouraging thing I've seen in this team all season was our ability to win low-scoring games. Unfortunately, we've reverted to our old defensive ways a bit, as of late... so who knows where we really are.
Kind of interesting that Simms, a SB winning, multi-Pro Bowl professional QB of 14 years and commentator for 10 years regularly tells people our problem isn't at quarterback, it's that we can't get any defensive pressure on opposing teams.

Too bad really, because our DL is banged up and the weakest unit of the team has just gotten weaker. Our defense is going to be badly affected with Brandon out, Brown out, DWill with his banged up shoulder, Ekuban/Warren injured. Lang/Dumervil are getting far more snaps but they aren't going to hold up against the running game and offenses will find it much easier to move the ball on us.
I guess the offensive will have to continue to step up like they have done the past few games.

Phil Simms also said that Cutler is going to be a star in this league, and after watching him throw at camp declared that Cutler should be making Jake nervous.

Of course Cutler is going to be a star in this league.
Doesn't negate his very clear stance that QB is not our issue, rather... an inability to get near opposing quarterbacks with our front seven.

We're definitely banged up. I just hate the idea that we're going to have to return to last year's model of having to score in the high 20s to win every week. People around here hated winning with low scores, but to me.. it was a sign of a very stout, playoff-style defense. Given, the offense was struggling... but I knew they'd come around.
Well, they have, and now the D is banged up. Let's just hope we can get both units working at the same time before the season is out.

Heh, unfortuantely Simms left out that even though Tampa's and Bmore's defenses were real good they also scored more than 13 points on offense during the Super Bowls to win.

Actually Simms never said that about our front seven. He made some generic comment giving up a lot of yards recently without mentioning that we've just played two offenses that have put up a ton of points this season.
But I agree, the pass rush has definitely been the weakeness in our D.
I doubt Simms even knows who our starting front four are without having to look it up.

It definitely sucks allright. Thankfully we face an Oakland offense that's among the worst in the league.
I'm hoping Ekuban can come back healthy, and Engleberger will contribute by next thursday because we're definitely going to need a solid front four to contain the chefs running game.
I haven't heard of any new guy they've brought in since Brandon was put on IR but we can't do jack there since the trade deadline is long past.
I wonder if Fatafehi is available?

Do you watch the telecasts? I've rarely heard a national commentator that seems more knowledgeable about our team. Like the article said, he's seen us so much this year, he's got no choice. I'll guarantee you he knows every single one of our linemen, their back-ups and the relative skinny on most of them.
I'm not saying he's not goofy from time to time, but he's pretty on top of things, as a rule.
As for his comments, if you watch the games and listen to him... they could almost just have him on a loop saying "the Broncos can't get any pressure."
He's gotten very in depth about our defensive problems during the broadcasts.

Not to mention Gold. What's his status?

Yes I watch the telecasts but like I said Simms didn't mention the pass rush in that piece at all, but I get what you're saying.
I don't know Gold's status, last I heard he was Questionable for this week and could miss a few games. MRI results out today so we'll find out I guess.
I'm not really worried about LBers. Webster has plenty of starting experience, and I think at one time played some OLB and is just the kind of speed guy that Coyer likes at OLB. He a starting caliber guy but the knock on him was his durability, not his ability.

WTF?
We were averageing 12.3 PPG and everything was hunky dory"
I can't believe we gave up points to Indy!
Morons. Manning is torching everyone. Period.
We had several defensive players go out or get knicked up against Pitt, a very physical team. We gave up 20 points because we won the turnover battle.
I don't know if Popps has bothered to look at the injury report. Brown, out...Brandon out...Wilson, hurt...DWill, hurt...Lynch, concussion...Gold hurt...Warren was limited and a non factor.
We were hurt going in on offense as well and took more hits...Kyle was out, Rod went out, Lepsis is out...Tater was out...I think Fergy took a concussion as well...
We hold Indy to 27 and win. But we didn't close the deal, period.
Your wondering why we gave up points against Manning and just hung on against Pitt Popps?
What planet are you living on? Uranus?

This weekend we will shutdown a raiders offense that has been shoutout like 5 times this year and everyone will be talking about how good the defense is again.

I hope you're right. Denver's D should have their way with Oakland's offense, despite the injuries they incurred last week.
Go Broncos!!

Who we really missed Sunday (for part of the game) was GOLD. I hope he heals quickly and completely.

you just dont get it do you?
because someone makes the (easy) observation that the qb isnt whats been holding us back the last few years DOES NOT mean that person is a "cutler hater".
see, we actually can support plummer, point out that our biggest deficiency is the lack of a pass rush in critical games, and STILL be able to look to the future and see that we have a talented qb of the FUTURE in jay cutler.
i melted down on draft day because i knew the fans and media would go nuts (just as they have) and call to have the kid play right away.
i also knew that would make the season a whole lot less enjoyable than it could be, and thats happened too.
finally, i want to win RIGHT NOW, and i believed (and still believe to some extent) that a dominant defensive end was more important than securing a future qb.
in hindsight, the opportunity to grab cutler (and still get walker) arose, and the team took it, knowing that they wouldnt likely get that same opportunity in a few years when it wouldve been NECESSARY.
anyway, the point here is that making the statement that the qb isnt the reason we havent won it all isnt a "bash" on cutler, and its also not saying plummer is the best qb in the league.
plummer is what he is.
he's a scrapper, he's a leader, he's a playmaker, he's a winner, and he's more than capable of taking this team to the promised land if the rest of the pieces are in place. he's not ever going to carry a team on his back, but he's also not going to be the reason a team FAILS to succeed.
as for cutler, we dont yet know what we have, but most all believe we'll have a star.
when its his time, ill be behind him every bit as much as i am plummer right now, and if and when we lose in the playoffs with him at the helm due to a lack of a championship caliber defense, then ill DEFEND him just like i have plummer.
i just call it like i see it, and i support my team 100%.

Eh... Hardly a notable take from Simms. I'd be more interested in hearing if he thinks Jay could deliver the same results so far that Jake has delivered. I think that we'd probably have a better record right now with Jay and certainly more touchdowns. I think our rushing game would be substantially more open.
All that said, I'm fine with Good Jake. It's actually fun to watch games with Good Jake in there.
I'm all for defensive victories. What I'm not in favor of is offensive stupidity like what we saw in St. Louis and Cleveland. Stupidity gets under my skin.

I don't remember Simms talking about Javon's 200 yard from Scrimage day Sunday. All I remember hearing was Ben this Ben that. I even turned down the TV at one point in the 3rd Q.
What is the bigger story a QB throwing for 433 yards & 3 redzone picks (not bringing up the picks) or a WR with 200 total yards & 3 TD's?

Well to his credit after Cox picked off the last INT Simms did say, "well you cannot forget about what these Broncos accomplished knocking off the Steelers at home" or something like that! So he talked up the Broncos for the last 2min of the Game! :woowoo:
