Haven't heard much from anyone but what do ya'll think about Pears performance tonight? Didn't hear his name much from the game analysts so thats always a good thing. Kudos to Pear!

Pretty friggin solid. I'm trying to go back through the game while watching the Mon night game... but Foster would be lucky to grade out as well as the n00b.

Yeah, that was a good sign. I like most fans don't watch the OL during the game. But Jake had plenty of time to throw so that is a great sign.

I think he played very well. He's not getting beat much that I've noticed and no penalties either. That in itself is great.

Going up against Freeney and Porter in back to back weeks while only giving up one sack is pretty damn impressive.

Even though we didn't run well, I thought the whole offensive line played pretty good. Jake seemed to have the time he needed for passing which is pretty unusual when you are one dimensional.

Can Pears play RT when Lepsis comes back next year? Maybe we could move Foster to Guard.

Another benefit is if this guy keeps improving our Oline depth just became very good for next season....

Kuper or Carlisle(even though contract is up) will be playing at RG next year.

LT Lepsis
LG Kuper

How about Foster and Kuper at guard and run for 2,800 yds as a team.

Also need to give props to the blitz pickup by the runningbacks.

Both tackles were fine today. I realize it's the trendy thing around here to bash the hell out of Foster, but really, let's try to keep it reasonable.

The entire group of pass protectors performed well today, and Jake was in the pocket most of the time.

if you don't hear his name or the LB or end on that side, you know he had a good game

Foster is everyone's whooping boy now that they can't bash Gold anymore.

Meh...I saw him play fairly poorly on quite a few plays earlier in the season. From what I've seen he has gotten better, though. I'm thinking if we have someone who can play RT that is more effective in pass protection and run blocking I'd like to get that guy on the field without losing Foster. It's not like I think Foster is just a big piece of crap or anything.

You think so? Because that lineup looks pretty darn good to me. I wish Nalen could play forever but we know we are going to start losing guys soon.

Pears looks solid, I am going to review the tape today but I haven't noticed him and at times forget lepsis is gone so that must be a good sign.

I am very happy with the way he has been playing, should only get better as the season goes on.

Pears has been surprising, from making the team in the first place to playing well as a starter at a key spot on the OL.

I'm pleasantly suprised by what i have seen, but lets not get too happy... every game gives teams a little more tape on this guy and people will begin to attack his weaknesses.

So far so good...

I'd love to see Pears stay at LT (only if deserving) and move Lepsis back to RT. Pears' size makes him more of a LT prototype, and although Lepsis has played very well at LT I think he's a better RT.

Shanahan listened to the mock and used alot of double TE against that 3/4. I'm always happy to give him advice when he emails me. Ha!

All Pears needed was to have the TE chip in to keep the ROLB from making a double move back inside or beat Pears outside. The TE can still get into a short zone gap if they just chip. Shanahan mentioned they used alot of it Sunday.

That's actually a top notch idea but for two things:

1. Lepsis will be 33 next year and although Foster isn't as good, he's also 6 years younger and will get better with time.

2. Pears has had a lot of help from Alexander in blocking so even though he's done very well, we need a LT there that can be isolated one on one like Lepsis was. Pears needs to show signs that he can do that before the starting job is his permanently.

Either way, it's a win win situation for the team. Especially with guys like Kuper/Eslinger/Myers developing.

Yeah, I find it hard to watch the line too close too ... but it was Hamilton and Foster with the penalties, and Jake had time to throw, and room to boot .... what's not to like?

The middle of the line sure as heck wasn't blasting open holes like they did against Indy though ..... M.Bell had a whole lot of 1-yard runs...

Yeah, not only did that idiot sign Pears, but he kept him on the practice squad last year, kept him in the final roster cuts and started him ahead of Meadows/Kuper/Carlisle!

I would expect they'll continue to give Pears help, but he's held his own when he's been left alone too. He's got at least 8 more games to mature, and I would bet we'll see less help as the season progresses. I'm sure that they're giving him help now as a precaution as much as anything, but as he proves himself (if he proves himself) on a weekly basis I think the help will recede.

Yeah, that's the way I see it too. I'm not ready to anoint him as the future at LT but in the very least, he's shown he's a very capable backup that can come in on spot duty.

It's a pleasant change from when Nalen went down and out entire OL went to crap a few years ago. Good to know that we're developing some young guys there.

Remember he was all star (or what ever they call it) Guard in NFLE. Backups that can play two positions are like gold in the NFL.

Haven't watched the tape again, but just the fact that we're not hearing his name on game day is a good thing. I haven't noticed the pass protection being any worse than it normally is. The running game was off this week, but that was probably a product of playing Pitt more than anything.
