Bad analogy

Denver coach Mike Shanahan, who gets paid for his football decisions, put an interesting spin on his reluctance to dump starting quarterback Jake Plummer for rookie Jay Cutler. Shanahan compared it to the time after John Elway when he elevated rookie Brian Griese, who wasn't liked by his teammates, over Bubby Brister, who was basically a backup. The Broncos and Griese went down in flames, finishing 4-12.

The only difference is that Denver's veterans do like Cutler (they also respect Plummer). It's almost like Shanahan won't make a quarterback change until he takes a serious poll of the locker room. This from a coach who keeps his running backs guessing on who will start opening day. Go figure.

Kind of explains Shanny's thought process. Funny how he compares this situation to the deal with previous quarterbacks. I think that poll is winding up right now. ^5

NEW ERA = SI
STATUS QUO = NO

We finished 6-10 ... is it really too much to ask for from a sportswriter to at least get the facts straight?

Yeah, I thought that record looked kind of screwy, too.

Yeah but Rod and ED had best seasons ever. Funny Denvers O is about the run game. Scrub QB's filled in to get the recievers 100 grabs a piece.

Me three. But hey, if a talking head from Fox says so, it must be true.

Comparisons like that are utterly idiotic. Brister was a career bullpen pitcher, Plummer is a career starter. Griese was a 3rd rounder, Jay #11 overall and I think should of gone higher.

If he want's to make a better comparison, try putting in John Elway over (can't even remember, DeBerg?)

We put Elway in before he was ready. When you line up under guard, your not ready. Jay has shown nothing but poise and maturity from everything I have seen. Both were 4 year starters from losing programs, both are able to run (Jay is actually better) and tough as nails. SOB wilts under pressure, wasn't a 4 year starter and not nearly as athletic as either the Duke or Jay.

Like someone said, Dove Valley is like a Maximum Security Nuclear Missle site to get a feel. I don't know why Shanahan was smirking, asking if there were any questions about Jake when he delivered the only turnover at the 12 yard line to surrender the lead. He had a good game, the STFU thread that he's vindicated is as solid as cream cheese...no, cottage cheese. He still isn't in the top 30 in passing rating, flawed as it is, it's still a measuring stick.

I refuse to make Jake the scapegoat however. It was the inability to give DWill some help that was ON TIME and SOME DAMN PRESSURE ON MANNING.

I don't see a change any time soon, and I didn't want one this year.

I'm sorry, but I have to make a Star Trek NG analogy. Anyone remember when the Klingon Council dishonored Warf by turning their backs in succession? I'm not Klingon, altho that clown from Chef Planet who shaved his ass hair to get rid of Klingons from Uranus had me in tears. I simply decided three weeks ago I had seen enough. What should I do, get on Shanahans red line?

Nothing we say or speculate here is going to make a damn bit of difference, so we will just have to see how this rather odd situation plays out.

The real question is...What would Dubya do?

Rod and Ed had 100 receptions in the 11-5 2000 season, not 1999.

Miraculously, Rod and Ed did both enjoy 1000 yard seasons despite the lack of stability that season at QB with Griese, Brister, Miller.
