Uri Avnery is a voice of sanity in the Mideast. But -- is anyone listening?

Iran is a paper tiger like all Arab countries. They train no where near like the U.S. Yea, they have a modern military, a large standing army and talk a good game, but when push comes to shove they will fall apart much like the Iraqi military did during Operation Desert storm.

Iran has a cultural civil war going on in their country and western influences gain more ground every day. Getting into a war with them would be the most counter intuitive approach we could possibly take, which is why I'm surprised Bush hasn't forced the issue yet.

Well, the Neocons, Ramey, Tensi, etc... don't understand that there ISN'T an American trapped inside of every Iraqi and Iranian.

It's the "Internets" (and MTV) that will eventually give people repressed by religion and government the information needed for change.

Got news for ya, Iran is not an Arab country. Listen to the Ritter interview. You'll learn something.

Wet wood, dry wood it all floats the same!! Either way, Iran could be militarily defeated within a week. If we use nukes give it one day!!

Depends on what the mission in Iran would be. If it were missles/air attack and ZERO boots on the ground we could flatten the place within days. We currently have or will have enough air power in the region to hold none stop bombing raids over Iran until the place was destroyed.

Just for the record Im not advocating we do so.

The question is: Do we have enough to ward off the wrath of the rest of the region if we were to implement that strategy.

For the record: we need to stay the hell out of the ME!

Hmm, we have what, 10,000 nuclear warheads? I think that is ample to "ward off " the wrath. Hard to be wrathful when your dead!! Question is, do we have the resolve to use them? Most likely not.

Saddam, never a threat, removed from power, theocracy created in his place, religious sect war engulfing the country, 2900 Americans dead, 25,000 maimed, 1.5 trillion dollars passed onto American tax payers for VA benefits alone.

Mission completely f**ked!!!

I for one am glad to know that the ranks of our armed police force are populated with rational compassionate individuals unlike the fear griped reactionaries that make up those scary ME countries.

Exactly, why would Bush want to lose two wars?? That surely wouldn't help his legacy.
