Yes, because we're going to play an anemic offense next week.
Our guys on defense will be out for pride...It's the guys on offense I'm worried about.
The Steelers' D is NOT the Colts' D.

Of course they will bounce back, but do keep in mind that the Steeler season hangs in the balance here, so I'm betting it aint gonna be easy.
At 2 & 5, a lot of the football world has already written the Steeler obit, but going 8 & 1 isn't unheard of, obviously, so I'm certain the Steeler coaching staff is pitching the; "it all starts right here" kind of rah-rah.
Shanahan knows as well, or better than anyone that he has to lift everyone up to play their best game this Sunday.
Games like that Indy loss can suck the life out of some teams. I'm hoping the Broncos can keep focused forward.

Any injury news yet ?

Just that Warren remains day-to-day.
Toe issues can be so incredibly painful that they can seriously affect performance & Warren has refused pain-killers for whatever reason.
Foot issues are a big deal for him too...he had these gigantic size whatever feet
I'll be out there tomorrow, so I'll get a better read, but every fan knows that football players at every level have SOME kind of nick or bump by week 8.
That's why the week 7-8-9 bye is so tresured, but it is what it is, and I haven't heard any bad news from practice so far, so it looks like all hands on deck.

Also, since I forgot about Tatum Bell, no-one has so much has mentioned his injured toe on the local sportscasts, so, I'll find out whatever is available tomorrow.

Against OK to good competition, they will look pretty good to very good. But I don't think they are up to snuff against the elite offenses. So it will be up and down. They were never as good as they looked in the first five games (they played only one decent offense).
San Diego, e.g., is going to be a VERY difficult game, in SD and here. We had better see significantly improved defensive play or we're going to get our tails kicked badly in both.

Thx, I feel better now. Seriously though we got good
pressure on Brady......I guess WARREN really makes a difference...huh ?

My view on Coyer 100% confidence in him against average offenses and QB's.
0 confidence in Coyer against playoff calibur teams other then the Pats.

Why would one game against the best suited team to beat this defense make you think they will not be successful against any other NFL teams?
There is only one Colts offense out there, and every other elite offense has much bigger holes and the wrong personnel to play the way that Manning and the Colts did.
Small sample size and the recency effect are clouding your ability to see the Forrest because of the trees.

Eliminate all the missed tackles by the linebackers and our defense didn't play any differently on Sunday than they have all year. The difference was we played an offense that was able to execute without making mistakes.
The old adage is the truth in this game - A great qb like Manning will kill ya if you don't pressure him. We willnever beat this Colts team without getting Manning dirty. Some said keep him off the field well we did that by running the ball very well and scored 31 that would get a win against anyother team in the league.

based on how we played against the Steelers last year, it doesn't fill me to the brim with confidence

OMG thank you, i was getting really worried about this board, its gone downhill ever since a whole bunch on new people joined up. I remember when i first joined and people who actualy knew something about football started threads and had discussions. Just refreshing to know someone knows what theyre talking about.
but there was another difference we hadnt seen all year. Mistakes in the secondary played a huge part there were at least 3 communication problems between lynch and DW. and if your defense is built on making the offense shoot itself in the foot the defense cant afford to make mistakes. 2 of those mistakes led to touchdowns. one being when DW set up in a zone and figured out it was man too late and still almost caught up to make the play. The other being when both DW and lynch covered the flat leaving wayne with no one covering him. We made mental mistakes which we havnt done all year or if we have we could hide them against less talented offenses. You take away those mental mistakes and I gaurantee we win the game. we stopped them in the red zone in the first half because we wernt making those mistakes.
your right on about the offense that executes though it came down to who was going to make the mistakes. Our defense is built on execution, coming up making the tackle, making sure no one gets behind the defense. We just ran into an offense that executed its game plan better than our defense did. We had mental lapses when the colts offense was playing their best football. I guarantee without the mental mistakes we win. I gaurantee if we run that same defensive plan in the playoffs we win. we just cant have the blown coverages thats completley against the whole strategy of our defense. We exectuted in the first half and held the colts to 6 points we didnt execute in the second and gave a ton of points. We are the better team and our coaches and players know it. We gave that game to the colts not the other way around.

Any offense with a good O-line and quarterback kills us. NE only has the QB, but their O-line is terrible.
I'm beginning to think if this team wins a superbowl this year, they'll have to win a couple of shootouts with Jake under center. *shrugs*

I like coyer's zone defensive scheme, but sometimes you HAVE to send a blitz, especially against great QB's....

Manning was 6-7 on the blitz Sunday for 4 first downs and two TD's. Hell yes Let's blitz somemore!

it's his blitzing schemes that are pure garbage
sending a blitzing LB that is 7 yards off the ball isn't going to cut it against Manning, nor 3/4 of the QBs in the league

You are right...Most of Mannings throws were out and gone in 2-3 seconds.
Timed routes. A delayed LB blitz won't get there. Most blitzes get picked up by that line anyway and they give him a good pocket. We had no effective rush all day, and his line just pushed the defenders outside to clear throwing lanes.
I think you have to give Manning different looks, and cross him up with movement pre-snap to get him to change into different plays. Then when he changes, shift again. The guy is too good at his reads. At least make him work for it.

Our defense will be ok. It has had one bad half of football all year against a team that just has our (Coyer's) number. A bigger question is whether our offense is really coming around or was that just a one game aberration?

So if the blitz ain't the answer, and the don't blitz aint the answer, just how does one get inside MelonHead's brain to slow him down/confuse/rattle him?
I'm thinking we all "fart in his general direction".

I agree, but it will be interesting to see what up coming Offenses we go against attack in the passing game and we could probably see how a game is going to go based on the pass rush. Granted they would need a peyton at QB to exploit us to the fullest but iam very interested to see how we respond from here out.

Jam the receivers at the line, take out the RB in the backfield before he's a receiver, and cover Clark. Knock 'em down for 60 minutes. This could throw off the timing and give our D more time with just a four-man rush. Make them walk off the field the way the Pats did after playing us: beat-up and disgraced! :strong:
