View Full Version : So I Witnessed A Small Incident At Invesco...

I was sitting in the South Stands yesterday, and 2 rows down from me were these two guys. One had his face painted and had an orange cape on, and one had a blue homemade jersey that said the 12th Man all over it. These guys were cool as hell, into every play, jumping around, getting everybody within earshot into the play when we were on defense.
Directly behind those two were an older man and his son. (At least, I assume it was. The guy was much younger) The older man had his heaphones on, and apparently just wanted to sit and watch/listen, because at some point (I don't remember when) he started yelling at the guy in the face paint to sit down, that he wanted to watch the games, etc. Then the son kinda got into it with the other guy, in the 12th man jersey.
Pretty weak, if you ask me. The guys kinda calmed down, I guess. It was hard to tell because after halftime, everybody was standing up for most plays on our end because they all turned out to be big plays. This older gentleman just didn't want to be up and down every play. Didn't want to scream and hollar with the crowd. Just wanted to see his football and listen to his radio. On the one hand, he's obviously been a Bronco fan for years, and deserves just as much as anybody to see them in person. Hell, those seats were probably his season tickets. But on the other hand, maybe he should stay home if he just wants to sit and listen to his radio?
But overall that was about as loud as I've seen at Invesco. The Pats playoff game comes to mind last year. Everybody was jacked for Manning & Co. yesterday.

I've seen that at hockey games. You don't like the live-game atmosphere (which will include people standing to cheer) then don't come.

Wrong section. The whine and cheese section is at club level. I don't have a ton of repect for "fans" with headphones. Why not just watch at home in your lazy boy?
Both Shanahan and Lynch implored the fans to make noice to limit PayaTon's chicken wing waving audibles. If we hadn't sat in a base defense all the time we might of rattled him.

they dont have to cheer, they paid for thier seats and are as much a fan as the person screaming. They just choose a different way.
But they should NOT be getting in the face of others who are trying to interact in teh game and be a 12th man.

How is an old man sitting on his hands while real fans are making noise like was implored by Shanahan? Stuff like this as Joe 6 pack is basically priced out of the experience. Last time I checked, I don't believe there are STFU and sit down signs posted in the concourses.

Tough shyt for the old man, sorry but it's a big game and fans are suppose to be fans and the old man doesn't have any right to take it away. (its a football game) But i will say the caped dude can get the crowd going and then sit down before the play starts.

If that old man had his way then yes, it's a freaking pity it has to come to this but come on! we are the best fans for a f***** reason! and it isn't from sitting down and being quite.
I have had the same thing happen to me while sitting in the "wine and chesse sections" before. My take has always been, Stand up and cheer with me because I am not going to sit down and talk on my cell phone like the rest of you. Seems to work real well for me.
Screw the quite fan, sit at home and take it at your own pace if that is what you expect at a football game.

i've been to mile high once, which was last year for the championship game. I had a lady behind me ask me to sit down for the game as well.
i was pretty upset about it as i was raising all the hell i could. I sucked it up, and made a deal with her that i would stand and raise hell on defense and sit down when we were on offense.
the deal worked out ok, but i wasn't to happy about the situation.
the 12th man can be key. Can you imgaine if everyone just sat and watched?

I was unable to make the game until half way through the 2nd quarter. My brunch at the club ran a little late. Will you people please be quiet? I was trying to have a conversation with my wife, and I couldnt hear.

Yes I can, I've been to a game like that @ 3com/Candlestick/Niners. We were tailgating with our beer and burgers watching everyone else daintily eat alfalfa veggie 'burgers' and drink their wine. Boy it's fun just sitting through a whole game at the stadium...

I have experienced this twice at invesco the last two times I have been to a game. Last years AFC Championship game some jack Arss told me to sit down because these have been his seats for 4 years and he doesn't like to have to stand. I told him I get excited and he would have to deal with it. This was club level, but it was the freaking AFC championship game, get with it fans.
Then this year at the Ravens game (upper level) we were getting loud, stomping, trying to keep warm in the rain and some guy through a fit about us standing up. Then the rest of the crowd around us started calling him no legs and he backed off. If you want to sit and watch stay home and let the real fans go to the games.

I had the exact same thing happen at the Ravens game. My buddy and I were standing, stomping and cheering and some assclown is screaming at us to sit down. It was 3 and 17 for the Ravens backed up in the North endzone. I turned to him and said, "The only place I sit and stand on command is church. Not during Monday night football"

I was thinking the same thing! If you are going to complain about people standng up on situatons as mentioned, then the old fart should get front row seats, wheelchair or stay home. Switching seats would have made a big difference. If he wants to sit all game and have the place be quiet, he should invest in club seats with those yahoos.

the people in front of us asked if we could be quiet, we politely said 'no way' and then they went down and got security, security came up and talked to us because someone complained about the noise we were making...security even thought it was stupid, so they left us alone...the people in front of us were gone @ halftime
i asked security if it was against the rules to clap, yell, stand, stomp feet, or pound on the walls - no every time was their response...
my advice to everyone is this:
if you want to enjoy the game in peace and quiet...STAY HOME
dont go out where 75,000+ people are gathered to cheer

Dude, I bring my headphones and screw up my vice for a week all the time. Hell, even right now my throat is hurting. Just cuz you wear headphones and wanna know what the situation is (for instance, why Tatum sat the second half) doesnt mean we wont raise the roof like last night.
Oh, BTW, I just frickin love the ones that try to be the head cheerleaders. They alone can get you pumped.

The club level was actually getting into the game yesterday, it was wild. Actually got fans stomping yelling and screaming...I was aghast.
That being said I have pondered giving up my seats soon for the reasons you guys have stated in past examples. Football should be rated "R" and only people 18 and older admitted. I can't drop "F" bombs, yell, scream and cheer for my team anymore without some pansy ass wine/cheese guy calling security or complaining cause his son wants to watch. I've never been in a fight at a Broncos game but believe the entire stadium should revert back to the south stand days with corporate types and old guys, or young kids carted out. The security gal in my club seats is nice but she lets it be known every week I can't stack my beer cups, can't swear etc... Eventually I'll pocket the $7000 me and my buddy donate every year for 3 club seats with parking etc. and I'll sit at home in front of my big screen, I just hope after eleven years as a season ticket holder it won't come to that.

The only time I'll ever side with the sit down crowd is if the ones "into it" are also the ones who keep showering me with their beers. Luckily, I've only had to contend with that bullshat just once...(which goes a long way towards explaining why I'm anti-the wave).

Yep, if you're old and infirm you should just stay home because you can't stand and cheer. Just because someone is unable to stand up and sit down for an entire game does not make them any less of a fan, and some want to experience the gameday atmosphere even if they are unable to fully participate.
I'm guessing the vast majority of the posters in this thread have not been to a game this year. Before every game they've introduced a fan who has had season tickets since 1960, most have a priority number of under 100. All of them are in their early 60's at the youngest, I'm guessing they can't constantly stand up and sit down for an entire game either. Why don't some of you guys go tell people who have shelled out their hard earned money for 40+ years that they aren't real fans because of what they can't do anymore?

It happened to me in the championship game as well last year. this guy started yelling in the first minute itself... when everyone were excited for kickoff.....
i just couldn't understand... why he was yelling for initially.., because he was being a maniac. then i told him to take a hike and get the first row if he is so much of a fan.. otherwise deal with people before him.
imagine this jerk in the back and ben bottlesburger.... kicking us.. i was thinking why the hell did i come to see this. some fans think they are too good to spoil others fun. I am with lot of people here, if you cant make noise.. go sit in level one and follow the game from first row and listen.. and dont bug others. otherwise dont go to the games.... and kill others fun

I have no problem with people standing up in front of me, but I actually think you can make more noise sitting down and pounding your feet on the metal stands (Rocky Mountain Thunder) and yelling than just standing up and yelling. Going to games in the South Stands since the 60's it was incredibly loud when everyone was pounding their feet. Now at invesco I sit in the north end zone - it still gets pretty loud when we get "Rocky Mountain Thunder" going.

The Broncos and players are always wanting loud crazy fans and a minority of old coots, and people with kids want it to be a family event with everyone controlled in front of them. I have corporate seats right in front of me and guys in suits continually come down to "talk" in the middle of the game, the people are always very reserve with more focus on talking than the game, they are always gone by half-time and inside when it gets too cold. Maybe the Broncos could make and old coot/kid section and let the rest of us cheer and go crazy. I don't care if a dude has been a season ticket holder for 40 years, if you come to the game bring it or stay home.

Could be John. I love the seats but miss having real fans and people around me. My buddy has a bad back (deteriorating disks etc) but still manages to jump up and cheer so I don't buy the people being too old and have to sit excuse. In the south stands we had friends that showed up every game in the club seats its a hodge-podge of new corporate faces every week. Being around uninspired fans and seats the corporate types always sell to opposing fans is getting old.

There is a flow to a football game. I guess I'm one of the few who mostly observe the crowd knows when to be on their feet and when to settle in and watch the action.

Wow, so kids should not be allowed into a football game anymore? I have no problem at all with screaming, standing, or stomping, but I really do not see the point in dropping F bombs all over the place. One of the things I really want to do in the near future is come to a Broncos game with my son Samuel. He is the one I really enjoy watching the games with, but I don't think that it would be as enjoyable with somebody who cannot keep from cussing the entire game. Maybe you are right, and we should just stay at home.

So, the old guys and young kids should be carted out. I'd like to see someone attempt to cart me or my daughter out. You say you've been a ticket holder for 11 yrs., well woopdydoo. Some of "those old guys" you refer to have been going to games for decades, and are set in their ways (hell raisers or not).
Apparently you've put yourself in a position which isn't in your comfort zone. Club Level is for the corporate types. If you're unhappy with that crowd, sell your tickets (if someone will buy them).
The points I'm trying to convey are: 1. There are rules which you agree to when attending a game. 2. If the fans around you don't agree with your "type" of enthusiasm, they can complain. 3. The Broncos have the options to enforce the rules, or not (their perogative). 4. If you don't like it, you have four options: Move, Sell you tickets, live with it, or loose your ticket rights!
I used to have tickets four rows from the field, and some of the old timers objected to my standing during the game. I requested a move the next year and got seats which back against the railing on the lower level. Now I can stand all I want without anyone bitching.

It really seems to depend what is going on around you. Sometimes I have so much nervous energy I could stand during the entire football or hockey game. But if no one else is standing then I know I'm just being rude. It's not my living room, other people paid the cost of admission, too. Of course attitude has a lot to do with what you can get away with.
Obvious excitement and a few smiles and well placed "sorrys" go a lot further than "Fck you I'll stand up if I want to.
Goes the same way for the folks who have to remind others to kindly stop blocking the view, too. Using some good humor as opposed to irritation generally goes a lot further as a reminder. I mean, sometimes you just get into the game and forget you are standing.

It only took three years after the "relocation" from Old Mile High to get it right!
1st year I had handicap row ??? I tried to get out of handicap row because the lady next to me kept grabbing my ass when I stood up to cheer, so the had me sitting in different seats each game for the rest of the season.
3rd year, four rows up!

Now I can stand all I want without anyone b****ing.
great post nut..but whats the problem with the lady grabbing your ass throughout the game?:wiggle:

The term "lady" is being used only due to her gender, not her looks nor her personality!

Great post. The idea of excluding children from the stadium is sickening. Certain segments of the 18-34 demographic really do believe they're the only relevant people in the world.

Lisa: I hate being young, nobody listens to me.
Abe: I hate being old, nobody listens to me.
Homer: I'm an average white male aged 18 to 49. Everyone listens to me & my ideas, even the stupid ones.
