From the Gazette:

ENGLEWOOD - Denver Broncos injured defensive tackle Gerard Warren said Thursday he won’t take a painkiller to play against Indianapolis on Sunday.

Warren is questionable on the injury report with a sprained right big toe, and hasn’t ruled himself out. He said if he can manage the pain he will play. He said he has the option to take a painkilling shot, but he won’t do it.

“I don’t take painkillers,” Warren said. “You could take one, but I never take painkillers.”

Warren said he never has taken painkillers. He doesn’t like painkillers because they numb the injured area and it’s tough to tell if the injury gets worse during the game.

“You know how much pain you can take,” Warren said. “With a painkiller, you can tear a tendon off the bone and be out for the whole season.”

Warren didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday. Warren is scheduled to practice today and the Broncos hope to have a better idea whether he can play.

“I can’t damage it too much further than it’s already done,” Warren said. “I’ll just rehab and try to get on the field on Sunday.”

On one hand, Warren says he doesn't take pain killers because he could further damage his injury and be out for the whole season. Then on the other hand, he says cannot damage it any futher.

Sounds fishy to me, Gerrad. This is a big game, take a pain killer and get your ass out there because as you have stated, you cannot damage it any further.

I got to agree. If it can't be harmed any more, pop the pill.

I don't blame him for that decision one bit. It's the wise thing to do.

How can you so consistently be wrong Gonzo?

He's willing to play thru the pain and wants to know the condition of the toe. He didn't say he couldn't damage it any further... He said TOO MUCH FURTHER...How you can be wrong on 99% of your takes is astounding. The guy is manning up and going to play thru pain, yet you hammer him. I don't blame him for trying to play thru pain, I admire it. If he has to, he probably will...I don't call it weak, I call it brave.

He doesn't want to take a pain killer so he doesn't play on it if he doesn't know it might be a season ender. Your an idiot yet again.

He's like a soldier who charges the hill not even knowing he's hit...maybe not that extreme, but it happens all the time.

If he wants a corizone shot he can get one at any time during the game.

Steroid injections are a common and effective treatment for a variety of conditions in which inflammation causes pain, swelling and other problems. Glucocorticoids, particularily prednisone and cortisone, are used in injections for inflammation and pain. These hormones help reduce inflammation and pain in the body. Cortisone is the most well known injected steroid and it has a dramatic anti-inflammatory effect on tissues, particularly joints and tendons. This family of steroids is not the same thing as anabolic steroids, which are used to enhance muscular development, and are largely illegal in international athletic competition.

Guess what he's doing...refusing a steroid. One legal in the illogical world of the NFL where a diet pill is a crime.

I agree... Gerrard just mispoke, he can damage it significantly more. He could tear the tendon/ligament.

Buy a vowel. It's not a pill, it's a shot.

WRONG...see if he is playing effectively...then either shoot up his toe or bench him.

I'm not going to tell him to take a legal steroid. That's his choice IMO.

I hope he can fight thru it but I dunno, his other toe was injured as well.

It is quite obvious that Gerrad has a first degree sprain because he is able to get around on his own without the use of crutches. All he needs is some ice, tape and possibly some shoe inserts.

If he had a second or third degree sprain, then sure, he should sit out. You can barlely walk when it is that bad. But this does not seem to be the case.

Tatum is playing on two bad big toes. I think Warren must have some ligament damage because I've never heard of a player sitting out with a first degree sprain of the big toe.

I just went back and watched the monday press conference. Warren does have ligament damage so it is not a first degree sprain.

so then he could sprain it worse... I think it's a good decision not to take the shot in this case

play him as much as he can go, then send in Veal. Unfortunatly if he starts limping around Manning will go no huddle.

You're misquoting him, Gonzo. He didn't say he cannot damage it any further. He said he can't damage it much more. That next level of damage could be significant and long lasting.... like ripping the tendon clean off the bone.

I can see his point of view and I totally respect it, but it's the Colts, so do him like the A Team did BA when they needed him to fly. Knock his ass out and shoot him up. When he wakes up just tell him a good nap is all he needed.

If he's never taken pain killers before, I have no problem with him not taking any this week.

Besides, Ekuban looked good lining up inside...we could use the extra interior pressure.

I'd rather have Big Money miss 1-3 games than miss the entire season.

There is an article on DenverBroncos.com front page saying that Big Money expects to play on Sunday.

It says he doesn't think it's going to stop him and that he expects to play on the front page while the actual article is a lot like the original one posted here.

Yeah he did. I've learned this is Gonzo's tactic after getting owned. He merely throws eggs at the person who owned him, and then runs to his mirror to flex in front of it.

As I can (unfortunately) attest to personally, the whole "you can't damage it any further" thing is pure BS. I hope he sits this one out.

Veal is another guy like Ekuban that really seems to hav stepped his game up this year. (Though, I thought Veal was solid to start with.)

Still, Warren's our centerpiece. This would be a tough game to go without him. Missing our best linemen on both sides against Indy? Not prudent.
