I was listening to the Sportswriters in D.C and they were talking about the draft pick that Denver has with Washington. I originally thought ( reading some of your posts here ) that if Washington did lousy that we would still not get a great draft pick. Maybe i read that wrong somewhere if so i apologize. But, listening to these guys they said that if Washington tanked and Denver did real well that Denver had the OPTION to trade picks. So if Denver wound up 32 and Washington somewhere in the top 5 Denver could use their pick to trade with Washington. Am i clear on that? Or am i still misunderstanding how that is going to work?

I belive the highest 1st rounder we could get would be in the 22 range regardless of anything else.

Hmmm, see that isnt the way these guys were making it sound. Because they were bashing the Washington front office for doing that with the picks and leaving nothing for team to work with in the future.

I guess I should try to look the deal up, but I'm pretty sure if they finish with a pick higher than 22 or so, they get to keep it no matter what and give us some other compensation such as the 3rd rounder.

Mid high rounds is as high as they can go, I think. But when the draft comes around don't be shocked if Denver trades down to the second round if they can get better value there (with another team, not the Skins).

This trade has a lot of mumbo jumbo details so I don't think anyone knows what will happen until the end of the season. It seems like it will equal out to be a 3rd round pick. Sounds like we only swap First is both are in the 20s-30s. So if Washington ends up like 4-12 then we would get a very high 3rd.

We'll only swap number ones if both teams are in the playoffs and Washington's pick is lower. Washington went on a winning streak about this time last year, so I'm not writing them off yet, but it looks like they'll miss the post season. In that case, I believe we get their 3rd rounder in 07 and their 4th rounder in 08.

It's 20 from what I understand. My guess is we could swap picks if that happened and probably lose our 4th on 08.
I think we will wind up with a 3rd 07 and 4th in 08. Stupid douchebag Lilly. I hope he enjoys watching Alge Crumpler catch TD's. What a name. Algae Crumpler. A misnomer. How do you crunch Algae? Algae Squisher?

More interesting piece of converision on John Thompson show with Doc Walker (ex-skin) was the discussion about Portis, and how he lost a step due to the hits he taken over the years. That his body his starting is taking longer to recover and how he can seem have trouble going back to back series right now.

The Broncos will get a decent pick in any case, which is not bad for a guy who isn't starting on his new team and isn't really making a big difference either. And I'm glad the Broncos did not spend a ton of money on Abraham either.

If the Redskins finish poorly enough and the 3rd rounder is high enough (I'm not sure how high it would have to be) there won't be a 4th rounder next year. The specifics of the deal are fuzzy.
I just remember the Broncos saying that the compensation for Lelie was the equivalent of a high 3rd rounder.

They should have been bashing the Redskins front office for trading the equivalent of a high 3rd rounder for a guy who's spent 98% of the season rusting on the bench.

Sundquist has also said both teams took risks in the trade. If the Skins were to win the Super Bowl, the 96th and a future 4th aren't going to equal a high 3rd. Where's the risk for the Skins if they suck? I still think it's a 3rd and a future 4th regardless of where they finish if they miss the playoffs.

You could very well be right. I was just going on the statement that Shanahan made that the Broncos wanted a high 3rd rounder for Lelie and that's what they got for him.

This is exactly what I said would happen with Portis when we were arguing the wisdom of the champ trade. now it looks like T Bell is improving and CP is in fact wearing out.

Supposedly there are like 300 different scenarios and yes we do have the option to trade up for their first by giving up some of our picks. It will be based on the draft value on the chart.

3rd and future 4th if they miss the playoffs
Lelie trade update
If the season ended today, the Redskins, who are tied for the NFL's 25th-best record at 2-5, would have to surrender their third-round pick in the 2007 draft and fourth-round pick in 2008 to the Broncos, who are tied for the third-best mark.
Not bad compensation for receiver Ashley Lelie, who has only 12 catches and no touchdowns in six games for the Atlanta Falcons.
The Redskins and Broncos were part of a three-team, preseason swap that sent Lelie from Denver to Atlanta and running back T.J. Duckett from the Falcons to Washington.
Duckett has only five carries and 24 yards for Washington.

There's a new thread today about all their draft trades. One person has already declared that they won the Portis trade, and the other two trades are too early to tell.

I don't even want to know the line of reasoning that goes into claiming that the Redskins won the Portis trade. It has to be borderline dementia at best.

I really don't even want to think about how this team would be without Champ Bailey.
They said it best on extremeskins... He was their franchise player.. and now he is our franchise player. 10 years from now we will be able to look back and see just how big of a change that was for this franchise.
When you trade a running back that has AVERAGED 1500 yds and almost 15 TD's his first two seasons in the league for a CORNERBACK, there's going to be TONS of hype around that player. The fact that Champ has lived up to the lofty expectations that were established that day is simply amazing. You can say guys like Hall, McCallister, and Newman are good cornerbacks. You'd be right on the money. But Champ is in a league of his own. He's got the experience, he's got speed, quickness, he can tackle any running back in the league... and he looks forward to it! I can't say enough, so i'm just going to stop talking. What an amazing player.

What's important is that the Redskins' management thinks that they got the better of the deal, or at least equal value. They've turned out to be fantastic trading partners. Who cares what their waterhead fans think. Let those poor fools live in their own world.

Oh, believe me, I'm delighted that they're so happy with the deals they've made. I hope that these two teams keep dealing every offseason and I hope they're happy with every deal that's made.

He's coming back to Denver, watch. It was all one big plot to net the Broncos some extra draft picks.
The truth is out there.

Maybe with Cutler at QB. He's currently doubling the production of our #3 with Vick.

Keyes, it was his one hit & High schools everywhere teach it. Bradbury clearly the better & more consistent writer but too Sci-fi for most Lit teachers or something. I have well thumbed copies of all of Rays books.
The made for TV movie with Cliff Robertson helps teach the book for the begining lit teachers. In the tougher classes you have to actually read the books.
