Saban Made His Bed
by Michael Oliva | Phintank October 23, 2006
FinHeaven Exclusive ContentNick Saban has made his bed and now its time for him to lay in it. An ESPN.com poll comes out each week ranking every coach in the league and where they stand. Take a guess who came in next to last? That's right, Nick Saban. And I can't say I disagree with that assessment.

The bloom is off the rose with Saban just 23 games into his NFL head coaching career. While I am not one to say I told you so, I will this time and say I told you so! The Miami Dolphins are quickly turning into the NFL's version of the NY Knicks. And playing the role of Isiah Thomas is none other than Nick Saban.

Let's break down some of the moves (blunders) that Saban has made since taking over the Dolphins on Christmas day 2004.

In my opinion the first big mistake Nick Saban has made is selling his soul and bringing in or keeping every degenerate this league has to offer. Now, the NFL is a tough guy sport played by individuals that are not very nice. I accept that and I even accept that maybe on a 53 man roster you might have one or two athletes that have found themselves in some off the field problems on an occasion. But the laundry list of players with off the field problems that Nick Saban relies on and depends on is a joke.

The biggest one is Ricky Williams. After what he did to the Dolphins in July 2004, this organization should have cut all ties with him. Period, end of story. I don't care how good of a player he is or how much money he robbed from this team. The organization isn't broke and doesn't need the money and for as great as he is you can't depend on him......EVER!

Nick kept Ricky and the traveling circus that is always around him. And after he was suspended again, this time for a full season, Nick still publicly defends him and keeps him a part of this franchise instead of just ridding this organization and city of this clown. Then, we keep around (and give a raise too)

Randy McMichael, a man who beat his wife not just once in one offseason. Oh no, he did it a full year later one more time. Then we get to Marcus Vick, oh how can we forget Marcus. A guy who once flipped off the fans in college. A man who once stomped on a defenseless opponent in a bowl game. A man who was found guilty of having sex with a minor. Should I go on with his laundry list, or do we get the point? Keith Traylor was arrested this past May and still could face a suspension from the league for two misdemeanors. And we can't forget about Mr "LOVE BOAT" himself, Daunte Culpepper.

While the Fins aren't exactly on the level of the Cincinnati Bengals when it comes to filling up a roster with scumbags, they aren't far behind. While I understand Nick in a job where winning is everything. It doesn't mean you have to just sell your soul to bring in every low life possible to help you win.

Not only are the Miami Dolphins a bad team, they are also an unlikable team. A team that is tough to root for. Forget good player or bad player. These are bad people and bad human beings! These are bad people you can't depend on in life let alone on a football field. Yet, Nick just keeps bringing them in.

Lovefest is over and deservedly so. They looked ok yesterday but in other games they looked unmotivated and sloppy. Culpepper signing proved to be horrible. I don;t see why teams that get hot and the end of a year try and make drastic changes, just build on it. Dumbass redskins did the same thing, drastically changed the O once guys starting grasping it.

He was gripping badly at that press conference and basically making the media's job that much easier.

The sushi over performed last year, imo. Ricky Williams? It's not like Saban traded for the guy. And, he didn't bring in the wife beater.

Aside from the qb position, Whatwasdat had a pretty talented team, but they're in need of a rebuild. I've never liked Culpepper, but imo injury-wise Saban will only see what he got next summer.

You're right. They're making it seem like Saban is going out looking for bad guys specifically. His real blunder was opting for Pep over Brees.

I really don't think either one bring any more than Jake, certainly not Culpepper. I guess, maybe, with the right system Brees can win a bowl game, but honestly I think even Hasselback is a better come from behind in the the 4th qtr. Saban appears to be drafting primarily defense, which is the right way to go if you're in a deep rebuild. And, he's really a def guy anyway. A lot of college guys don't make the switch, but theoretically Saban should, because he's not mailing it in, and unlike Hotlz and Ralston, Saban really is an x and o geek.

I guess this guy is who they have as an OC. I don't know anything about him, or really what Saban invisons his offense to look like.

He may have a shot at a qb in this next draft. On the Browns board they're already looking at the draft, while on this board they're bitching about Jake. LOL

Elway really did kill that team. Not just the ravens, but the current browns owner is an idiot, according to the boards I lurked on. Whoever drafted that qb Croch out of Kentucky their first draft doomed them to mediocrity.

Problem for Saban is no stability at the QB spot and the defense that was very good before he got there has gotten older and not as good as before.

Disarray. Kinda makes you feel good about how good we got it. We are complaining about an offense not scoring enough points on a team that has been the most consistently good team in the NFL for more than decade.

Props to Shanny, Bowlen and Sundquist.

Seriously, does any NFL team come out and underachieve as consistently as Miami?

It seems like regardless of the regime, we're always hearing how they're going to be a powerhouse or at least an up and coming team and then they come out and step on their dicks every years.

Everytime they show the postgame press conference with Saban its the same 'ol melt down. I swear to God that vein on his forehead is going burst! The act is getting old. Like father like son.

Apparently according to the NFL network Daunte's knee is swelling again, more good news. Or bad news.

STFU...I wasn't the only person to think they would play better than they have. The entire media hoard did. They brought Cullpepper out too early when his knee was still shot.

I was hardly a lone wolf you dumbass. I never "rode his nuts" other than I thought he was the best prospect. Cullpepper played horrible. Williams was suspended. They won their last 6 games. Saban came off a great record at LSU.

I'm not going to make excuses for Saban, but there are other factors.

I didn't expect the secondary and Jason Taylor to completely suck, or Cullpepper...I didn't expect Little Ricky to wind up in Canada.

Statistically, they are in the top half of the league, they just can't push the ball in.

I'm not responsible for a horrible red zone offense.

They are barely ahead of Denver.
