View Full Version : Dumervil surpasses team sack leaders of last season

With 5 sacks thus far on the season, Elvis Dumervil has surpassed the Broncos team leaders (Pryce, Ekuban, Lynch) in that category from all of last year. He's also got a fumble recovery to his credit.
Not bad for a situational player who's only played in three games this season. !Booya!

He'll have to show something other than bull/speed rushes before I anoint him the next Freeney, but he is exciting.
It sure feels nice to be gettin solid value from the mid rounds.

Did you seem him bull rush that tackle using those plank-ams for leverage? He just shoved him backwards.
This is freaking fantastic. This team has needed a pass rusher for a decade. It's a little early to say exactly what we've got, but he's definitely going to be AT LEAST a situational impact player for us.
Extend him immediately!

I won't poo-poo your late-round passrusher. We got one from the same place!
Rep for Elvis. This kid is appears to be the real deal.

We've played some crappy offensive lines. I'd like to see what we can do against better lines, but at least we can actually capitalize against the weak O-lines.

They played crappy O-lines last year, too, and couldn't get to their QB's without a blitz if their lives depended on it.
I'm very encouraged. :)
He is a step in the right direction and I think this will only make our defense tougher to contend with. Factor in that we have four picks to play with next April and we are going to get a chance to add more talent to our DLine then we are already playing with.
I said it before... this defense is very good and it is going to get a lot better in the next two seasons. We haven't seen anything yet as long as we can avoid the I***** word.

I'm very excited about that passrush unit we put in on third down. They have been very effective thus far. Our DEs in general have done well this season, much better than years past. However, Warren hasn't looked good in pass rush this year and now he's injured. We need more of a push upfront, make it difficutl for the quarterback to step up.
As of now, our ends are getting there at a decent pace and our Interior linemen are atleast getting their hands up to disrupt vision. If our interior can get more push, then we'll see the INT flood gates open soon for this defense.
As for Elvis... Boy how do you fit all that power and speed in that little package? That was a huge OT he knocked back like the guy was George Foster or something. I guess Elvis gets a confidence boost every day when the 2nd string D plays the starting O. LOL

Oh, I know. It's definitely an upgrade. The first step is beating guys you should beat. The next is beating guys you shouldn't.

Elvis is strong as an ox due to his huge trunk and ass and gorilla-sized arms and that low center of gravity and leverage.
I say lock him up THIS week as well. Sign him to 6 years with some incentives.

I think Elvis could have a huge game next week vs the Colts tackles that the Chargers and Steelers owned.
Good point Kaylore about the Browns O-line, they are depleted and awful.

Can someone fill the rest of us who do not know -- what is Elvis' contract status?

We already have him signed for six wait for 3 to 4 and then resign. We need cap room for another big DL.

I just got finished watching the game...had to tape it since I was tied up earlier. I'm super impressed with the kid. If he continues like this we could have a defensive rookie of the year candidate on our hands.

And we thought Elvis was dead!!!! There was and Elvis sighting in Cleveland today. Just got back from the game. Props to this rookie who is defying all the talking heads in the media. He been a bright spot on an awesome defense this year.

He's actually really advanced in his pass rushing moves. From what we heard during training camp, the coaches were really impressed with is repetoire. On one of his sacks he absolutely schooled their RT with an inside swim move. I wouldn't necessarily categorize him as a just a "bull/speed" rusher.

I think we got ourselves a situational pass rusher here. Maybe given a couple years he can play a bigger role and be an every down DE, but man, he has a quick burst off the line and has some power. Very good pick in the 4th round.

People will look back and say that he was a better pick than Mario Williams.
Mario Williams 1.5 sacks
Elvis Dumervile 5.0 sacks in 2 games
And to think Williams is getting champ bailey money, tying up the cap for years to come.

I hear that! If he continues this kind of production then please lock him up instead of waiting until his contract expires and some team pulls him out from under us a la Berry.
I've got to eat major crow on this one. After seeing Mark Anderson tear it up for the Bears all year I thought we drafted the wrong guy but Doooooomerville is making me eat my words and I'm loving it!

When he got drafted I did some googling and Kiper had him listed as a top 10 overall pick prior to the start of his senior season. All he managed to do is go out and tally 20 sacks that year, and then he is a mid-round pick because of his size? It's not like he shrunk during his senior year.
And Shanahan finally decided not to mess with success and try lining him up in different spots. Just let him do what he does best. I said he would be a steal if he came in in spot duty and got 5-6 sacks on the year. Now, I'm thinking he can get into the double digits.

Look at OrangeShadow's avatar.....the guy's fingers hang almost down to his knee !!

The best part of having Elvis is that QB's cann't take 5+ step drops on obvious passing downs, and Elvis's height is actually a +. It makes it hard for tackles to get leverage on him. I love this guy, he gives Denver a pass rushing threat:wiggle:

He posted some **** combine numbers, especially a poor 40 time. If I recall he had a tweaked wheel (ankle/calf? thats what Vick stomped) from the end of the regular season and it kept him from putting up the numbers he expected. Teams weren't willing to overlook it like they would had he gone to a premier university.
I loved the selection after doing a little reading on Dumervil. He's got great pass rushing technique, impressive lower body strength for a speed rusher, and most impressive of all, those long arms of his are plenty strong. I think he'll be a very productive pass rush specialist for us who could eventually develope into a fulltime RE.

I think the stat says it all. Even if he's only a situational guy going forward, its better than Hayward at a fraction the cost.

If he continues to produce at this rate (or even close to it), and posts double-digit sacks, it is unlikely that he will play for his rookie contract for more than a couple years. In today's NFL, we should probably look to extend him in the offseason and lock him up at a higher, but reasonable rate before he decides to hold out.

Well, one reason Dumervil fell is when he weighed into senior bowl week, he looked like a ball of flab with no muscle on him whatsoever. He did piss poor there, and was hampered with his calf injury when Vick stomped on it. He posted a time of 4.7 or so, which actually isn't that bad. He gets off the line fast, and that's what counts. I believe there was an article where he stated had he been healthy, he probably would have ran high 4.5's or low 4.6's.
Super pumped about the kid.
