3 Broncos 3 - 3/17 The No. 1 scoring defense in the league, Denver has been transformed from an offensive juggernaut with an above-average defense into the 2000 Ravens over the course of a year. On consecutive weeks, the Broncos held opponents to three points on national television. Add in their 17-7 slugging of the Patriots on Sunday night a few weeks back, and you have three nationally televised games in which they’ve held conference opponents under 10 points. Their wins aren’t exactly “Must See TV” — but they are pretty darn impressive.

I must admit, I hate being compared to the 2000 Ravens - bad taste in my mouth and Shanny and Offense better do something about it! I can't wait to beat up on the Colts at home....I'm soooo overlooking the Browns as are most of the Defensive players right now. The one shot to prove that this defense is better than years past and we have no monkey on our back!

We have the #1 scoring D? Guess I assumed it was Chicago.

Not after giving up 23 points on Monday. They were leading.

Chicagos D has scored more points than our D has. Denver has given up fewest Points allowed but over 5 games vs Chicagos 6. Chicago was better than us by 2 points through 5 games. If we hold Cleveland under 18 points (& win!) I will be happy to keep the Defense Stat lead but if don't mean anything unless they win!

Detroit 31st

Oakland 32nd

"The exact opposite can be said for the city of Oakland. In a three day span, the A’s were eliminated from the postseason, their manager was fired, and the Raiders were silenced by Denver on national TV. The Raiders take on struggling Arizona on Sunday in what could make for a really entertaining game. That is, of course, if you’re a fan of sports follies and bloopers."

nfl.com has us 3 and espn has us 4. that's a lot of respect for a team with no offense. they are better than they have played and the rest of the league knows it too.

That ranking is pretty damn generous considering our offense. I would rank us around 8 after that limp dicked performance against a pathetic team that mailed it in before the kickoff.

San Diego should be ranked above us. You didn't give a link so I don't know. I imagine Chicago and Indy are on top.

If ands or butts don't win titles. Till we show it it's dick. The WR's have started throwing their arms up in frustration. Both Walker and Rod. TE's are completely missing. The fans aren't blind homers, especially here. With the way the offense is sputtering, ranking us in the top 10 is generous IMO.

The NERD power rankings that will be released on FOX Sports aren't going to be as kind on the Broncos. I think Denver will be ranked in the teens on those.

Chicago D has nearly outscored our O in regard to TDs.

On a points per game basis is what I think most people are basing it off. 7.4 vs. 9.8 ppg.

LMAO. The nerds (Football outsiders) have Den at 12th overall. They have the defense rated 8th, ST's rated 15th, and the offense 19th.

These rankings are compared to the NFL average of what other teams success have been measured by Yards and first down's translating into points and points allowed.

Denver's defense is rated at -105% of average in the Red Zone. The best ever in that area is 2000 Bears at -60+%. These are accurate measures of what has happened. The rush defense has given up 101 yards a game and the passing defense has given up almost 200 a game. That is about 11th in total yardage defense. So, they give up a bunch of yardage and are unbelievably executing in the red zone. Sounds just about right to me.

The offense has been excellent running the ball, and worthless passing. They are -17.8% of average performance in Passing and 5.6% above average in rushing. Interestingly enough, they are good in the redzone.

BTW, those numbers are adjusted to the schedule DEN has played and therefore take into account the quality of the teams they have played.

The good news is that CLE is 31st in DVOA offense, 25th on defense, but 2cd on ST's. The ST's rating really concerns me unless the Offense runs for over 200 yards and gets 3 total TD's. Denver might have one of those great defensive games and ST's might bite them in the ass.

Giving up 3 points two games in a row helps your average quite a bit.

Hate to admit it, but that sounds about right. As a Maner on a different thread pointed out, we really have not yet played many stellar offenses, so our defensive stats might be overrated. And of course our offense sux.

Frankly, I don't care what our rankings are, though. Just want to see solid wins, and some offensive competence. At present we have the former, and very little of the latter.

Also, the nerds have Denver being #24 against #1 WR's ???

WTH is that all about. Its called Torry Holt, Randy Moss, Kennison, Reche Caldwell, and Derek Mason picking on Darrent Williams and Ferguson in zone coverages. Randy Moss was in the Slot away from Bailey on almost ALL of his catches and the one time they threw to him with Bailey Man to man, INT baby!

They catch what actually happens after games are played. They can not predict, but explain how teams have played. Their system has no way to account for gameplanning, matchups and execution. However, they know what happened after the fact for the most part.

Giving up only 18 in St. L was a masterpiece in its own right. We lost the field position battle every other series and basically handed them 12 points.

The B-more ST of 2000 were a fair amount better than ours this year which should tank any comparisions. Also our O is underperforming, unlike Raven O. However, its the en vogue comparision for all those sports writers that do actually remember much about the 2000 Raven squad.

Good work Med, and you can ask Arizona's defense all about playing lights out and still losing the game!

You can ask Chicago's offense about playing worse than Denver's did at any point this season and having your defense pull you through for the road win.

You know what, everyone is comparing this team to the 2000 ravens, those ravens averaged a shade over 20 per game, a total we havent reached yet.

Chicago should not have won the Viking game in the Roller Dome either. Bears D (Urlacker?) Stripped the ball as Johnson was icing the game & Grossgrrl drove them down for the winning TD. Up to that drive they were not moving the ball well.

That was a 100% choke job by Arizona. Chicago made a couple of good plays, but all three TDs were handed to them on a silver platter by a totally inept right tackle, and over the hiill Edge and a choke artist for a FG kicker. Not to mention an entire punt return team that literally went to sleep on the field. I've never seen a punt team as a whole unit put out LESS effort on the field than Arizona did on that Bears TD return ...it was absolutely PATHETIC!!!

That game is hardly a blueprint to emulate for a successful chamiponship run .. depending on playing teams as disfunctional as the Cardinals each week! Fortunately for Chicago, such offensive ineptitude has been the rare exception rather than the norm for them so far this year.

We've given up ONE touchdown ALL YEAR. Our offense has done just enough to win 4 out of 5 games. We SHOULD be ranked high...
