View Full Version : Shanny Holding Back Jake On Purpose???

While watching the struggles of the Denver offense, I began thinking of why the offense has been so dreadful. Could it be that Shanny is putting the shackles on Plummer because he wants his stats and numbers to be so bad, that he has no excuse, but to put in the kid this season or the next. I hope he decides to pull the trigger soon, I'm ready for the Cutler Era to begin.
about to get flamed by slap in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...

so he wants his numbers to be bad, yet win?
I think he either is hiding some plays from teams or holding Jake back because he is scared of him screwing up. Not caz of stats.
Like I said before, if he doesnt let Jake play, bench him and let Cutler manage a game.
LET JAKE LOOSE!!!

I'm anxious to see Cutler, Plummer is way to inaccurate.

Well, maybe he is holding Jake back, as far as the playbook goes, and thus will give him the excuse to bring it ALL back with Jay C.

as much as I dislike Jake Plummer, I'd never think shanny would ever set up one of his players to fail...Jake is doing a fine job of ****ing things up all by himself...

He won't be worth much more than a 4th Rounder. Redskins may give up a 1st rounder.

Shanny is holding Jake back. The motivation is what is the question. Does he have no faith in Jake or is he trying to make him a better pocket passer because teams are figuring out the boot? I don't buy the sabotage Jake theories, first and foremost Shanny wants to win. If he thought Cutler was better he would play him.

How about.... and this might sound crazy, so brace yourselves...
Jake has started out slow, so Shanny is playing it more conservative in order to win games, and it's working.
As Jake settles down and situations dictate... he'll open it up more?
I know that's a bizarre theory, but just throwing it out there.

and not only does shanny not trust jake, I don't he think he trusts the entire offense right now......Kirkus, Marshall, Walker, mike bell and Scheffler are all new to the offense...hell, it took shanny three seasons and three games to finally feel comfortable with Tatum Bell.
Add in fosters struggles, new coaches Dennison and Heimerdinger- maybe shanny doesn't sense any chemestry yet

WE HAVE A WINNER!: The First Annual OrangeMane "Urbane and Dry Wit Award"
Watching 3 qbs this week .... it was:
1. Matt Leinart - WIN (looked almost Elway-like. Did everything possible to bneat the Bears)
2. V-Young - PLACE
3. Jake - SHOW
You gotta wonder what Cutler could do ...

I don't think so either because the owner of the Broncos would fire his ass.
Alot of people keep forgetting about the business side of things. The Broncos are in the business to win championships and make money for Pat. There isn't room for feelings, mind games, and BS like I keep reading on threads time and time again. The Broncos are a BILLION dollar organization. The stakes are high and Shanny knows this. Lets not lose site of that. There isn't any I'm going to make Jake look like a jackass and piss off a few million Broncos fans just so Shanny can get Cutler in the game.....
They are gearing this team up to make a run in the playoffs. Now if it was week 12 and we had a few wins on the books than I'd say Shanny would have the Green light to do what he had to do to motivate players etc with creative ways.

You're right .... that's what Shanny stressed in the Monday presser - so many new guys .... btw. you mean TWO years TWO games for Tatum I think.
Shanny also pointed out something very telling: The offense had ONLY 3 possessions (plus kneeldown) and only 15 PLAYS in the second half ... not much chance to do too much. And when Cecil dropped that 3rd down pass, that killed one of the three drives.
Worst part of holding Jake back? Javon is showing himself a malcontent: "I can put my finger on (the problem) But I just run the plays they send in."
He should start s'ing the f u ... he's too new for that.

Shanny knows that the team is one bad Plummer play from blowing a game. So when they get a lead, it's Marty ball. Man, that sucks. But you gotta do what you gotta do.

Wow.
I suppose I could see that if Bob were on the sideline with the headset, but not Shanny.

Silly question...Shanny is holding Jake back for the same reason I keep my 16 year old daughter from dating 25 year old guys (not that she would want to)...because he's seen first hand the disasters Jake can produce if he doesn't.
It's very simple. Jake stinks.

Thanks for sharing bronco militia, that was a nice take.
Just as its easy to do with politicians, its easy to place the blame on the most visible person in the organization. That person is Plummer. But, the facts (including Shanny's comments) point to the infusion of new talent into the offense as being the major culprit in the case of the Bronco offensive woes.
1.) New Coordinator - this position has always been veiled a bit by the presence of Shanahan, but we all have gotten the impression that the new coordinator spends alot of time with the QB.
2.) Tatum Bell - Tatum had to be demoted for the duration of the preseason and for the kickoff of week one to get the message that the team needed him to run hard on every snap. Tatum is not new to the team, but his role in the offense is much more important to the success of the pass game now.
3.) Rookies Everywhere - Scheffler, Marshall, and Mike Bell have all seen playing time in the offense. Scheffler was drafted to be the replacement for Putzier and he hasnt replaced that production at all. Schef was criticized early on for blocking deficiencies, and hasnt shown us anything in the passing game. Marshall was lauded as a prototype posession WR with deceptive speed. He has not shown well either. Mike Bell has played better than the other rooks in limited time, but he was part of the reason Jake got destroyed by the Rams DL in week 1.
4.) Walker, Kircus - Two brand-spanking new WR's who were expected to master a relatively complicated offense right away and contribute. Walker has managed to do his thing despite the learning curve. Kircus is still struggling to find a consistent role in the offense.
If you take a measured look, you see the potential for early struggles at various points within the offense. It should come as no surprise that the offense has struggled. I dont see how adding another brand new player would expedite growth at all.

Great analogy. But all 16 year old girls want to date 25 year old guys, so keep that shot gun loaded. ;D

Meadows has been inactive for every game. Pears has been active.
I suspect this is because Pears can play OT and OG while Meadows is strictly an OT.

Jesus Christ......how long do we have to wait for Jake to "settle down" ?!?
He's a 10 year vet, and this is the 4th year in our system......but we still have to wait for him to settle down, huh?
The guy throws ducks and underthrows receivers all the time.....he is an AVERAGE QB at best......I don't understand why the Flake apologists continue to give him a free pass......HE is not the one winning the games here in Denver....the 21 other starters are.

The Plummer's have been spewing some really weak excuses this week. Now it's that he needs to settle down? Popps has the weakest arguments ever anyway. I've heard other excuses like he needs more time to adjust to his new wide recievers...like Javon Walker...duh. I guess all those weeks of training camp and hours on the practice field weren't enough to get him to hit a reciever whose routes he has been throwing to for 4 seasons. They guy is a Professional Quarterback, play like one.
Hopefully Shanahan doesn't pull a Grady Little here.

So there's been some short passes put in the gameplan. If those are executed, chains move, time comes off the clock. Long, sustained drives.
Then no one is talking about Jake being hobbled. Those would be genius game plans.

Actually, I heard a player on the radio this morning (just caught a flash of it so I don't know who it was) say that of the nine pass plays called in the second half, only one was designed to throw to a receiver on a route of more than 5 yards.

I see it this way as well. If you are so obsessed about Jake's lack of consistency that you are holding back the whole team, then put Cutler in. Otherwise, let's get back to playing Broncos football and dance with the guy that got us here!

This is the best point that Jake's critics can make. You just don't hold back an entire team because of one guy. If Shanahan actually feels that Jake is the problem, and therefore the reason that he is throttling back the offense, then I feel it is irresponsible of him not to make a move to Cutler. (Unless of course he feels Cutler isn't the right guy, which raises a whole other set of questions.)

Yeah if we can only convince the Skins that they can reclaim the Portis magic only if JAke is under center for them maybe we can hoodwink a 2nd rounder out of them :-)

Great cartoon ... it says it all!
!. Shanny IS shackeling Jake
2. Shanny wouldnt do so if he wasnt scared sh**tless of not doing so!
3. Ergo ...its high time for Cutler!
Just from the political point of view though we are going to have to endure a few losses beforr Shanny will gather the cover and courage to make the switch when he will have then felt he has bent over backwards to give Jake a chance and proven to the rest of the team's satisfaction that the time is now.
I think they planned on unleashing Jake more this year until it blew up in their faces against the Rams and Shanny quickly put the lid back on.
This idea I've seen bantered about by the rapidly dwindling 'Jake has got what it takes' cadre that he only needs more time to 'settle down' is way out in left field!
The guy has had every oppotuinity IN THE WORLD and is a 10 year vet in his 4th year in this system.. He ought to be calling his own plays by now, not needing half a season to 'settle down'!
