Im part of the Omaneplayas. Not the main FF league. One of the smaller ones. Im playing against Gunns today. right now she has me 130 - 82. I still have Bart Scott, Champ Bailey, Heath Miller, and Steve McNair to play yet. But... she has 1 player left and its Derrick Mason. So even if McNair has a good game chances are Mason will be on one end of it. Unless of course Champ shuts him down. :wiggle:

The problem I notice with Rivers when the blitz is on is he takes his eyes off downfield and looks at the rusher and then steps backward and not forward inside his pocket and then fire the ball.
One of Culter's good traits is in looking downlfield and slidiing slightly sideways and forward into the relative safety of the pocket when there is a corner or saftey blitz from the side
The last two back to back sacks there were two wide open receivers less than 10 to 15 yrds downfield and Rivers backs up right into the pass rusher each time after taking his eye off the WRs.

Personally I've accepted the fact that the announcers will probably sound like ignorant morons whenever they open their mouths. I no longer listen to what they say but what they sound like. Madden and Michaels, Aikman, and Simms are the only announcers I can stand to listen to and I don't even bother listening to what they say just what they sound like. Guys like Joe Buck, Theisman, and Terrico drive me nuts.
That One Guy
10-08-2006, 06:07 PM
Only over the last couple years have I really started to notice how worthless it seems the announcers are. Someone I was talking to suggested it's the fact that anyone planning on mentioning sports at any point throughout the day has an NFL analyst crew so the crop is spread thin.
Have they always been this bad or am I just noticing it?

I don't get it. You would think at the professional level the tackles would understand that you can't crash down on pass protection without even checking to make sure that their isn't a blitz outside of you. Three times I've seen the LT or RT of the Chargers come crashing down and double team the DE (or not block anybody) only to see one or more blitzers go past them without the tackle even noticing. That is poor technique and piss poor coaching.

Chargers d looks very good. That was not a fumble.
Rascal
10-08-2006, 06:16 PM
The stupid offensive line slants work only if you have established the running game (which they obviously haven't) with play action, and when it is 2nd or 3rd and long they are not going to respect that. You keep the line in straight up pass protection without any line slants. If I'm the defensive coordinator and they do that I tell the OLB opposite of the slanting line to blitz every freaking time. And that is exactly what the Steelers are doing.

Well, on the TD, his second toe was in but im not sure the middle/back of his right foot didn't touch the line. I'm not sure that if your toe touches in but the heel or middle foot touches the line, that's in. Pretty close. I think he kept his heel off the edge my the width of a joint at most. He did lift it. I think it was the right call.

It's more important for the Chargers to lose than the Steelers, for the Broncos. They have to worry about their division before conference seedings. So I'm rooting for the Steelers.
Jason in LA
10-08-2006, 07:00 PM
That TD was close. The back of his heel was over the line, and when it went down it looked like it may have touched the line. But it was hard to tell. He may have kept that heel off the grass.
But if I was a Steeler fan, I'd be going nuts right about now. And they have every right to complain about that one...well, unless you bring up the Super Bowl.

Hmm... not sure if I've ever seen a fair caught kickoff before
happens all the time on those kinda kicks, high and to middle depth in the formation, if its somebody thats not supposed to be returning they call fair kick. you also see it occasionally on the onside kicks that are straight up and dont hit the ground, idea is that 1. a guy whos likely not going to be able to return it and/or catch it with defenders in his face has an easy go and 2. maybe the defender doesnt see the call and hits the receiver

Yeah I know that, but how many RB's are going to be able to block those OLB's one on one? And Pittsburgh often brings more then 1 person on one side.
I hate stupid o-line technique and scheming. And that sort of crap is just that. Not to mention they had the FB going out in a pass pattern numerous times running past two blitzers. HELLO!!!!

Someone recently raised the question as to which was more beneficial, having a player that hits hard or one that tackles fundamentally sound. While there may be differing views on that, you have to at least do one or the other. To see people go for the big hit and miss the tackle is just rediculous and as professional players, they should get slapped.

It must be nice to have a kicker that can consistently put it 5+ yards into the endzone on kickoffs.

in basketball(which I dont like) there's the concept that some ppl can score well if u only give em limited chances, but if u ask em to score in volume their efficiency doesn't only drop some(to be expected) it drops precipitously to the point where they look like they suck.
maybe cheeseburger is the football version of that.

I think cheeseburger may just not be a volume qb.
in basketball(which I dont like) there's the concept that some ppl can score well if u only give em limited chances, but if u ask em to score in volume their efficiency doesn't only drop some(to be expected) it drops precipitously to the point where they look like they suck.
maybe cheeseburger is the football version of that.
This is the issue I've had with teams that have a "managing" QB... It's a risk they take because if the run game is clicking and they can do screen passes all day, that's easy and the players look good. It's when the game relies on that timing route or the 20 yd bullet, can they do it? That's where I have issues with it and just don't see how you can really rely on a lot of QBs to win games for you in that scenario.

I want Rivers to throw another TD or run it in himself, I've got him starting today on two of my 3 FF teams.

Where has Waffle been during this year as big ben has been the worst starting QB in the league? Although he is a Cutler C$%Ksucker now.

cheeseburger has made singularly good plays, but they're usually in games where he passed like 16 other times in the game, or something small. thats how he got all his credit early for "doing what is needed to win."
but there might be an issue w/ him making the same plays while throwing 30 times a game.

It will be many years of Rivers versus Cutler in the AFC west.

I love seeing shots of Cowher when they are losing...The JAW just gets bigger and bigger..like it grows or something!
Imagine if he visits the Tonight show. The gravity field of Lenos and Cowhers jaws would be like a black hole..sucking all camera lens' towards them..

They've got just about as much of a QB controversy as Denver does.

I think Madden has given up on Favre, Brady and Manning for his new love...Phillip Rivers! Ha!
i guess he is cheating on rexxy then because everything grossman did last week just looked so much like a younger brett favre(and yes that was a compliment i guess) and i mean everything

without a doubt, the way they played and the way their offseason went, i think everybody knew, including their fans, that they didnt have what it took to repeat.

The Steelers are in trouble. They're in the same division as Baltimore and Cincy, so they pretty much got to get the wild card again, but with whoever doesn't win the West between the Chargers and Broncos, and Jacksonville coming on, and the fact that they already got key losses against three of the teams they'll be competing with, they are in deep ****.

Sorry practicality is more important than fantasy points. With Turner in there, he has fresh legs and he provides a different dimension than LT, which is throwing off the Steeler D.

ppl make mistakes on contracts all the time:). I think last year wasn't he the most penalized cb? he's basically too big and not quite quick enough to play cb, so he grabs ppl a lot.
The past 14 games (including tonight's game) he hasn't made those critical errors. He's been improving ever since Jets game last year. I think he's done remarkably well adapting considering that the league's rules had enforced that 5 yard rule, thus hurting his particular type of play. Heck, the holding call tonight was really the only big penalty that I can think of.He also had as much pass defended as Ty Law last year, and he only gave up two touchdowns. Heck, I think he's certainly better than Ty Law at the moment. Of course, when you 27 and the other guy is 30+ something, I suppose you should be better.
The biggest knock against him is that he hasn't had that many interceptions over the years, which is fine as long as he shuts his man down. And he has done that.

I'm happy for Rivers. He showed tonight why we drafted him in the first place. He showed that he can be a good quarterback by adapting to the Steeler's blitzes and other forms of pressure. No matter what you may think about Big Ben and the Steeler's Offense, there is no denying that their D is one of the best and Rivers certainly passed the test against them. Now if he wants to be a great quarterback he needs to overcome adversity like this on a consistent basis just like your own legendary #7.

nothing beats Cowher's jaw/face when TD ran outside down his sideline to almost put the AFC Championship game away. He looked like he would pull a Woody Hayes on TD. 1 and 3. Chargers won but that was sweet! If we take care of the Chargers on a sweep, Our schedule still would give us at least a tie with them. CHargers looking really good. Let Rivers pass and they might play all 4 quarters.
