View Full Version : What Are The Rules???

Bronco_Beerslug

So it appears different moderators enforce different rules, just what are they? Does it depend on who authors the thread whether it's moved or not? I posted the sports story of week (maybe the year) and it was moved to the dungeons within 10 minutes but another mod seen fit to move a political thread to the main forum that has stayed here for days. So it's more than apparent there is some type of bias going on considering I and everyone else was told that nothing BUT NFL football was allowed on the main page.

I hear ya man. Let mock start one of his drunken rampages on this board and it stays put. Or let bob start up a thread that is purely there for baiting, and it stays.

I'm guessing it's a matter of 'what mood the mod is in' at the time they see the threads.

Ask the moderator that moved it. I had a thread that had great entertainment potential moved the other day, and I simply asked Pez why he moved it. His explanation was reasonable. I didn't really agree with it, but he answered respectfully and his answer had some merit.

As for other threads that aren't moved - moving certain people's threads could turn into a full-time job. It's like telling your child time and time again to clean his room. At some point, it's tempting to just give up.

Consistency is hard to ask for from paid employee's and you want it from volunteers? Ha!

Im happy with all the thread movings except Bob threads which all belong in the Horses Ass IMO.

I suspect the different mods have might have some differences in what they think is movable. I've seen some slightly off topic threads get moved immediately and then someone like Mock will start something that says right in the post he knows it's not for the main page and yet it remains. If its as simple as "we move it when we feel like it" then that's fine. I'm just curious what the rule is.

Some mods dont move threads often.

I dont think Blueflame has moved many threads. Garcia and Pez on the other hand have no problem. Garcia is merge happy too.

Not sure exactly what SoCal does around here as far as moderation. Old Dude either for that matter.

Taco seems to do what he can when he can. That's the closest to a compliment I can give him without feeling dirty.

During the bye week, I personally was a little lax on moving threads, but as the game nears, I've been a little more vigilant about moving off topics to off topic forums.

As far as the baseball thread goes, I have no problem with seeing it moved to the baseball forum. I didn't do it, but might have if it were me who ran across it. There's a good group of die hard baseball fans that make it into that forum on a daily basis. It might not be a busy in there as it is in here, but the quality of conversation in there is top notch.

If I happen to see a baseball thread... or a hockey thread... or a clearly off-topic thread on the main board, I'll move it to the correct forum. Today, I chased down the thread about Alk's new twin granddaughters and moved it to the "Maniac Community" board to keep it from getting lost in the archives.

I've moved Mock threads and Bob threads, too... ;D

Sports gambling does affect football as well as other sports and for that reason a valid argument could be made that it is relevant to the main forum. It's not all that different from a thread about the Broncos being favored (or underdogs) by "x" number of points... or, for that matter, the threads about the odds Vegas gives at the beginning of the season of the Broncos (or any other team) winning the SB. Also, the thread in question has attracted enough interest to have 170 replies, hardly what I'd describe as "languishing"... :)

Really, who moved it to the main forum? I challenge anyone to show Bill Frist's conservative agenda is more related to NFL football or sports in general than the baseball playoffs!!!!

And that thread is about online poker not NFL football betting as anyone who read it would see immediately.

What about my explination did you have a hard time understanding? You think that I've got my mods looking for your threads so they can pounce on them and move them whenever they come across them? We're pretty laid back here for the most part. I'm not cracking rulers over my mods knuckles when they piss you off, that's for sure.

They have some hard and fast rules over at the Denver Broncos forum. Maybe you'd feel more at home there.

Ah, I had a feeling this would be coming from you. Why don't you step back and remember what you told me last month.

NO threads that aren't BRONCO or NFL related are allowed.
You moved the Bill Frist thread because YOU PLAY HOLDEM.

The Tigers beating the Yankees might be a big story to baseball fans. But it's likely that no one else cares much... and it's totally irrelevant to the sport of football. If I had seen that thread on the main forum, I can guarantee you I would have moved it to the MLB forum just as another mod obviously did.

To be candid, the subject of online betting was not one that piqued my interest in the least, so I had not opened that thread until its presence on the main board became an issue in this thread.

I don't play online holdem. I don't have the time. I get together with my buddies once a month to play when I can. I did find the topic interesting, because I *have* been considering joining bodog for awhile. Probably won't bother now.

Carry out my threat? What threat is that? You think I'm sitting here ready to ban whoever challenges my ego? I see my job as trying to make peace among differing personalities, not some little ceaser trying to whip everyone who doesn't jive with me in line.

Sorry that one of my mods stepped on your toes, but not altogether that sorry about it. Broncos football starts back up on Sunday, and we have a forum to talk about baseball with a good group of fellas there who care enough about baseball to go there everyday and chat with other baseball fans about it.

:) Sure you are. I asked you before why there can't be one little spot on the main forum with a link to OTHER SPORTS.

Believe it or not there are other things happening in the sports world beside NFL football this time of the year. The sub forums are basically buried with no traffic, this you cannot disagree with (honestly anyway). I've seen Mock's personal rants last here for hours and hours. At the time I posted the Tigers thread it was getting more hits and replies than any other thread and I posted it knowing there were only 30 members on the board at the time.

First of all, it wasn't a threat... More like an invitation. I'm not going to ban anyone simply for disagreeing with me. I will remind them that The Orange Mane doesn't have a monopoly on Broncos talk. I don't own anyone here. They're all free to make their own choices.

The only thing I can do is mold this place based on the feedback that I get. Believe it or not, I appreciate this kind of feedback, even if your whiny tone comes across like nails on a chalkboard.

And believe me... I've just about had it with Mock starting threads that I have to constantly move. I move them when I see them, but I've got a lot going on in life right now, and don't have an OMane window constantly open (like I used to have). I've got projects, deadlines, and a child, all while I'm trying to do things to improve the Mane. I have to leave a lot of the moderation up to my moderators, but some of them have some crazy things going on in their own lives right now.

Anytime more than one person is making moderating decisions, the possibility exists for "subjective" choices to be made. One mod might make a judgement call to move a thread, while another mod might leave it for a while or not move it at all. And another mod might not see the thread in question at all... with a busy messageboard like this one, it's unrealistic to assume that every mod sees every post on every thread. We really try to do the best we can, though.

Hey Einstein, check out the FAQ (http://www.orangemane.com/BB/faq.php?s=&do=search&q=ignore&match=all&titlesonly=0) and use it. Then try and find a used keyboard somewhere that has the feature where you can make the first letter of the sentence a little bigger than the other letters so your drivel is readable.

I personally feel the mods here do a very good job handling the threads that come up. They generally show good judgement in deciding where threads go and very rarely have I ever found myself thinking "I would/wouldn't have moved that thread."

Lets see... BB is bitching about mods. It seems when you arent posting something negative about either someone here, or someone in real life, complaining about something, or posting a link to someone else's work, you dont have much to say.

I like the Mods here - never had a problem and as far as I know they have never had a problem with me. I like the fact they (the Mods) arent overly anxious to crush people and move threads and remind people of mistakes. They generally give people the benefit of the doubt. They give posters like Bob and Gonzolays all the rope they need to hang themselves so we all know what kinda folks they are.

BB, the OM is a great site in spite of you, not becuase of you.

Is there a Mock rule on this board even a blind man can see he is catered to above and beyond others. If most of us said half the stuff he has said, we'd be banned but, the guy has almost 60,000 posts in little over 5 years. I do not agree with all the things he says but, he does offer good views alot as well.

While I do notice the things I noted above this is TJ's board he deserves the right to do or run it the way he wants. This is a place to talk football etc but, it is for fun just ignore the posts that don't agree with.

I just want to know why the pic mod keeps booting this avy?

Just a guess here, but if her shirt extended downwards maybe 10 to 15 more pixels, it might be more "work-safe".... ;)

Depending on the distance from the camera, 10 to 15 pixels wouldnt be much clothing. 8')

Absolutely. You can post like a boob all you want, but you cant display any. Keeps it all friendly that way.

Honestly, I am glad they draw the line where they do. I often read the Mane in living room near my kids... I have no desire for them to get "an eyeful."

you can just turn off Avatars if your worried about your kids "getting an eye full". I know when I was at work I turned off all avatars and images.

You have a point there. However, I enjoy the avatars. Also, there is stuff in Sig lines, too. Not too worried about it, I am just glad the bar is where it is.

PS that damn bouncing cat in your sig line is gonna give me a seizure!

Was it a baseball thread?

If so, why does it need to be up to the mods? Post it in the Other sports/baseball.
If you are looking for baseball discussion, find a baseball board.

TJ is a hypocrite, Slug is a whinny ass, Mock's rants really annoy people, Blue is an ass kisser, Zach is a troll, and Bronx33 needs to get laid. Did I miss anything?

that was in jest...most of it anyway...well some of it...nevermind. LOL

Pretty sure Mock's rant thread staying up on the main forum as no relevance to football yet that has not been moved. And TJ has even posted on it...those rules are real clear.

In the report bad posts option it says they should be reported if they are in poor taste or Spam. I'd like to know what is considered "Spam".

Down with rules!
Down with structure!
Down with organization!
Down with laws!
Down with order!

We the people are SICK of being told what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. And so I say...

UP IT!! :pimp:

We do WHAT we want, WHEN we want, and HOW we want. Let the revolution begin...:peace:

Survival of the fittest. Put the law in the hands of each individual, like way back in the day!

I believe that there is a "no nipple" rule here. The nipples are covered, so it's all good. Well, it would be all good if the rules were followed. But like I said, there aren't any rules around here, just guide lines.

So do I. It works real well until people start putting the picture as part of their posts...

So the avatars get booted for the boobies, but booby pictures in posts are okie dokie.

Just thought I would share that with the booby lovers...

Don't I get any love for being senile? Or evil? Can't remember which one it is today. So it must be senile, unless I'm making it up for some obscure evil purpose, which I probably am.

How very interesting. Perhaps it's time for some more *cough* avatars for the ladies? :stirstir:
