View Full Version : The Broncos Rushing D

We held the Patriots feature backs to 34 yards rushing in Gilette.

The Bengals defense isn't elite, but it was middle of the pack in rushing defense and that's after playing KC, Cleveland and the Steelers - all rush heavy teams.

There is still time left in the fourth quarter and the Patriots have racked up 200 yards of rushing and surrendered three TD's to the ground game in Paul Brown stadium.

I have two questions:

Is our rushing defense that good?

Is the Bengals defense that bad?

Usually it is a little bit of both and I would have to think that here. The Bengals beat up on two teams taht either had a banged up rb or a weaker line tahn advertised, an then the steelers just kinda i dunno... but they aint as good as youd think...

Meanwhile we are good run defense but not the best ever

Well, I think Cincy's defense plays far more aggressive than ours and as a result they give up more yards by being too aggressive. Yet, they create far more turnovers than we do.

Its a pick your poison kind of thing.

I saw that game...it looked like Maroney could run at will. Bengal D looked very porous!

Cincy needs to run some tackling drills. Maroney had a crapload of yards after first contact today.

Didn't the Bengals hold LJ to under 100?

I'm kinda curious as to what kind of defense Cincy really has. Today they looked like the Chiefs though. Maroney and Dillon did whatever they wanted.

Their tackling was pretty bad. I wonder if we made the Patriots look bad and so the Bengals didn't take this game as seriously. A lot of people were calling this a lay-down game for the Bengals.

Cinny has real problem on the field. They aren't clicking for what ever reason, and they lost two good LB for the year. Meanwhile Palmer has been beat up pretty good the last two weeks,

both of these teams are very hard to get a read on right now. the pats go from an embarassing 17-7 loss to anialating the 3-0 bengals. huh? an offense that looked pathetic puts up 38 points. huh? i think the bengals off the field problems are catching up wit hthem and are atleast a distraction, maybe moreso now that there are rumors that odell thurman and chris henry might be off the team. i think the patriots will continue to play up and down like this against good teams. bill simmons had the best name for reche caldwell, haha headlights caldwell, i was cracking up, that guy is pretty new england-boston biased but he is hilarious a lot of the time.

Maroney broke out the nasty stiff arm on a number of occassions today. He was making Bengals look like DJ Williams all over the field!!!

Two things the Broncos have done during the Shanahan Era. They've ran that ball, and they've stopped the run. Every year they have one of the top run defenses in the league. I guess because the defense year in year out practices against the best running game over the past 10 years, it's easy when they get to game day and play against a running game that's nowhere near what they've been seeing all week.

On the flip side, that may not be a great thing for their pass defense (even though they aren't anywhere near as bad against the pass as the passing yards given up indicates).

Did you see that still arm from maroney as he ran into the end zone? That was sick!

Maroney looked "sick" today...Period! He could have had 4 TD's easy.

I honestly think that Denver's D is just that scary good this year. I mean any time a defense can go 11 straight quarters without surrendering a TD they are very good. Also, Denver has a bend but don't break defense, they will give up yardage but not points.

And i don't think that Cincinatti has a bad D, i just think they had a bad game. They are similar to how Denver was last year, descent but they rack up turnovers.

I would also say its a little bit of both and also that they were coming off a big win last week against their divisional bully.

Maroney is a pretty darn good back. He runs the ball hard.

Cinci has lost its starting MLB and lost Pollock with the broken neck.
Remove 2 Denver or KC Defensive Front 7 starters and it would be a noticable difference.

If Denver's Rush D is so good....that must make the Chiefs Run O pretty good.

I think Denver has a pretty good rush D, but I also think game situations play a big part of rush stats.....If you're down by 10-14 early, the rest of the game is going to be pass heavy.

ScottXray

I think it is a couple of cases of "Any Given Sunday".
We have a good rush defense, but BB took New England away from the run game..especially after Maroney got dinged...or was it Dillon. Anyway..they passed 55 times!

KC had me somewhat concerned with LJ cause they weren't having success stopping him...but he had a couple of good runs and a lot of mediocre to average ones. Plus DJ was playing badly..he kept overunning the play and letting LJ loose on the corner. He played MUCH better last week.

We stuffed St Louis runners until late in the game, when it was already over really (last drive).

Cinncinatti though was really BAD today...they were very Lucky to beat Pitt last week ( Thank You BenGALs!) . I tend to think they really ARE that bad on run defense...and that is going to make their secondary have to play up to help the front seven. Which will hurt their pass defense.

Overall that division is gonna be tough to figure. Cinn is 3-1, Pitt 1-2 and Ravens 4-0. Ravens are the only team that is impressive....Neither of the other teams has impressed me.
It could be Cinn and Pitt end up 10-6 or less, which won't probably get any wild cards. Hope they keep beating each other. I wouldn't mind them giving B-more a few losses either.

Our Rush D was second against the run last season and we had a ton of turnovers...more than usual at least, and we played a the Punt rush Defense to create pressure (very aggressive).

We got in marshas grill to throw off his timing on alot of critical plays the bungles didn't come anywhere near doing that and he picked em apart and that just opened up the running game. (end of story) we need to disrupt Mcnair this weekend because i think we have the running game vs the birds covered (force Mcnair to beat us) i noticed his passes early on were lazy and off the mark we should be able to get some turnovers off them.

IMO, we made the right move to snag our QBOTF. Tater is 3rd in the NFL in rushing, or was before the bye. Moroney would of been nice, but our RB stable is hardly bare. M Bell, Cobbs, Nash, Sapp.

Priority #1 next offseason is to get a monster that can drill Manning's grill.

To tell the truth I was pretty depressed. I won't lie about it. I also thought with Jordan Black starting at left tackle we would give up a good 6 or so sacks yesterday. Boy did they prove me wrong. We gave up zero, and alot of the passes were more than just 3 step drops.

Read my other post. I won't lie about it. That's the truth. I don't feel like posting on other teams messageboards when we lose. No fans do, unless of course they do it just so they can be humble and go and congratulate the winning team.

You guys show a lot of class by spamming our board and hijacking our threads after you've beat the Niners like you won the Super Bowl.

I think that is the biggest difference. I noticed vs. the Pats that the Broncs had made a huge commitment to wrapping the guys up at first contact. You could see the difference from last year. None of our tacklers were using arm tackles, big body hits (ala Kennoy kennedy), or tackling high. Everyone was low, in front of the ball carrier and wrapping up. Kudos to Coyer for focusing on fundamentals in the offseason.

That being said, it is Larry Johnson. If there's one things the Chiefs and LJ do well, it's run the ball.

But I see no shame in the Broncos performance defensively vs. LJ. He was definetly contained and the Chiefs failed to score a TD.

So Kaylore, yes, the Broncs rush D is pretty damn good. Top 5 in the NFL.

Except for Al Wilson, he seems fixated on the big hit and occasionally doesnt wrap up. I saw him on several plays not wrap up but rather give the ball carrier a forearm! WTF!!

This thread is a nice alternative to boob's return.

And therefore I bump it. It's interesting that KC's D shuts out the Niners - worst pt differential ever in a loss, apparently - and NE's D holds Cincinnati up pretty good; and KC's O and NE's O also seem to look better elsewhere than against Denver's D.

One could say Denver is looking pretty good, considering their first-place schedule. It's a long season, but 2-1 looks pretty good right now.

little bit of both but more so our D is that good

Apparently, the Denver D is pretty good. They surprised some O's maybe by not blitzing. Nevertheless, teams are haveing some problems with Denver's pass defense - they can't seem to get their receivers open enough before the non-blitz gets to them. We'll see how it pans out for Coyer and the guys. So far, so good. Last year had to be difiicult for the D. 3 new coaches (Slowik, Patterson, and the one other DL coach I believe), a new starter at safety (#25), 3 new DB's (DWill, Foxworth, Paymah), 5 new Dlinemen (CB, Myers, Warren, Engleberger, Veal). The D looks so much more smoother and confident this year.
