Did anyone else come away really impressed with Maroney on Sunday night? Dude was tough to bring down, breaking away from atleast two Al Wilson tackles. Pheww, could you imagine him in our system? With his running style and toughness, he would have been the next big thing. Not that I'm saying I would rather have him over Cutler, but you get the drift. Maroney is going to be a star in this league. A legit everydown back that can do everything.

He broke away from Al because Al was trying to arm tackle him rather than wrapping him up.

If we wouldn't have gotten Cutler I would have wanted Maroney. Even though he plays for NE I like him and hope he continues to do well.

He is a good one, but Al Wilson also needs to go back to 'Tackle 101' school after watching replays of the last three games. Big Al has wiffed way too many would be sure tackles and has added significantly to the opposing rushing yardage as a result.

Thats besides the point, he was tough to bring down all night. Most backs cannot break an Al Wilson arm tackle anyways.

lol.

Al Wilson is a great linebacker, but this doesn't change the fact that he routinely misses a couple of those tackles every other game because he tries to unload on the guy and never really wraps up.

Watch number 56 a little more closely, for every 3 big hits he puts on a guy, he'll miss one, but usually someone else is there to wrap the guy up.

I almost like it better for the intimidation factor. Al knows what he's doing.

I wanted Mannie Lawson 15, before that Maroney at 29. I've already forgotten all our moves in the draft. Anyway, I agree with you.

Maroney looks like a future star in this league. Reminds me of Shawn Alexander alot.

Shanahan has said if they stuck at 15 then Maroney would've been the pick. He looked real good vs. Buff and not bad against the Jets. I'm not sure what Dillon's injury status, so he could be starting against Cincy this weekend.

Floyd Little would be a great pick for the Broncos. I hear Saban might like to build a team around a young RB & even though Weeb has shown interest the Broncos have a higher pick. I hope we get Floyd!

Otis Armstrong looks like a good prospect. Keep an eye on him also!

I've been impressed with him all preseason, and so far in the regular season. I saw him at Minn a few times, and he ran very hard in College also. I do think he'll be a very solid back. He should be starting over Dillon before long imo.

OH knock that crap of Gonzo. First you predict the Pats game (very well I might add) now your gonna start 50 billion threads predicting all kinds of **** just so you can be correct some more ;)

Actually I agree Maroney is gonna be a stud in this league. I think there was an article in the DPO about how if the trade up failed Shannys next plan was Maroney.

Fixed it for you.

OJ Simpson is going to kill in this league! have you seen his O line?

I wonder if he can play in cold weather though

Hate the Patriots, hate Brady, but I do love Maroney. He and Stephen Gostkowski are pretty much the only players on their team I like. I think he's going to be good and hopefully he will somehow end up on another team that I like.

What game did you see Gonzo? God your a fool. Baloney had 18 yards on 12 carries with a long of 5 yards. Zero TD's.

That's a whopping 1.5 yards per carry. He does have a TD and a 3.8 average overall, but hold the phones. I'm not saying he's not talented, but it's not like Al Wilson gave up an 80 yard TD. It was 5 yards.

Al has oddly been trying to do that most the season

How many want to bet that he won't be the man in New England though? That team will not pay their stars. It will be like Curtis Martin all over again.

I say when he asks New England for money and they say no, Denver should get in the sweepstakes to pick him up.

I completley agree, I saw alot of Gopher games last year and he thought he would be a good fit as well. Maroney has good vision, hits the seam hard and loves to hit. He looks like a mix between old Jamal Lewis physicality with a bit of Stephan Jacksons acceraltion. Personally I have a hard time justifying taking a RB in the first round and am much happier with our selection but I'm glad we dont have to play him twice a year we allready have to face LT and LJ.

Man, I don't know what the New England area is going to do with themselves. All these young stars like Maroney, Ryan Gomes, and Leon Powe, man the local sports stores must be all sold out of jerseys by now!

Its about that time too, man! Training camp is what, next week? It seems just like yesterday Angryllama was having his meltdown. Ahhh, how time flies.

I would have loved to stay at 15 and grab Maroney, but Bell looks like he'll be fine if he keeps this up. Maroney in the system is unreal. I have the pleasure to watch him at Minneapolis a few times in his college career and the kid just blew me away. Unreal.

My bud Mendenhall says he's a real hoot to party with.

I can tell you for a fact, Maroney already runs tougher than Alexander. He's probably a better athlete too.

If not for two blown tackles by Wilson and Darrent Williams, Maroney finishes with about 50 yards total. I mean, he's a solid prospect and everything, but I wouldn't say he was overly impressive on Sunday night.

For a fact huh. Well I watched Alexander alot at Bama, and they handed him the ball 8 times in a row, and he plowed over everyone for 60 yards on those 8 straight. In the NFL he was the MVP and led the league in rushing last year, and set the league record for touchdowns, which to me screams hard earned goalline rushes knocking fools backwarrd.

Before you quote me this years stats and bring up Hutchinson, I'll say that Maroney looked like a beast this week, but he can't carry Alexander's jock right now.

Maybe Maroney ran harder this week and Alexander did, but over thier careers its an unfair comparison.

I'm dead serious. I watch Alexander every weekend...he's a softy. He's a productive softy, but he's still a softy. His strengths are his decisiveness and his vision. He is not an outstanding athletic specimen by any means, he just knows where to run and plays smart. When he's right, the fact that he doesn't run tough is irrelevant...he's too productive to worry about that other stuff. But, I'm trying to compare the two physically.

You can't deny that the line he had last year was just beastly. They ranked 1st in short yardage situations and 6th in adjusted YPC (yet they were near the bottom of the league in stuff rate...hmmmm). One game against Arizona, he scored 4 TD's untouched.

Courtesy of Gregg Easterbrook:

Shaun Alexander Untouched Touchdown Run of the Week: Last season, Alexander had 15 untouched touchdown runs. On Sunday, Alexander went up the middle for a touchdown and was not touched until after he scored.

That's Alexander's rep...he's a softy. There were/are rumblings that the Seattle FO was hesitant to fork over the big bucks because they thought he lacked full effort and was rather one dimensional (which he is--he can't block, he can't catch). With the numbers he put up last year, they had no choice but to re-sign him. He gets a pass for this year so far because of his foot, but that doesn't change the fact that he's been running the same way for his entire NFL career.

He talked a lot of **** for a guy averaging less than 2 yards on the game. Lots of chest pounding, I personally don't think he's earned the right to flavorclown yet, especially during his 3 game ever, in which he is pretty well contained.

Al has oddly been trying to do that most the season

Mainly because he over pursues a little, and ends up 3 feet past the guy and just has to stick one of those tree trunk-like arms out there. Sometimes that even brings guys down. Tackle man..TACKLE!!

Definately remember that. He tried to lay Maroney the F out, but he just bounced off.

Maroney has definately showed something this year. Good pick by the Patriots.

All true... I suspect that people don't hear about this rep much outside of the Northwest, but if you've been around Seattle fans at all in the last five years, you've definitely heard about how soft Alexander is. It's quieted down a bit, of course, but I have many friends who have complained over the years about Alexanders tendency to go down on first contact.
